Room was OK with nice view and clean.
Reception was not always manned. We had to keep ringing the bell on the counter to get service. There was only one towel in room when we arrived. Poor bar staff served wine in a dirty glass then, when we complained, he simply poured the wine from the dirty glass into another glass. Food menu choices very basic and food itself unexceptional. Overall, no better than a standard chain-style pub and in some ways, worse. We won't be coming again!
Room poorly appointed, dirty carpets, single glazed leaky and drafty windows, noisy floorboards in room above which meant that every time someone moved the noise was amplified into the room below. Slow service in dining room, they seemed to concentrate on bar meals as a priority and eventually when food arrived it was cold and greasy. Wedding reception on at the same time and noise booming into adjacent rooms, glad to get out of the place overpriced for what it offers.
Everything really, great breakfast
Good selection of dinner menu & breakfast.
The hotel staff was so helpful and friendly. The food was amazing. We were so pleased. Great location to travel to our other destinations.
Bed was comfortable, room nicely decorated. Good parking and conveniently located for purpose of visit.
Cold bathroom floor, shower poor. No complimentary bottled water in room. The breakfast scrambled egg was horrid!
Good location, quiet and quaint; a proper country pub atmosphere. The Bear was catering for a wedding on the Saturday we stayed; it was a disappointment to find we couldn't eat in the restaurant.
Shower grout needed replacing/bleaching (yuk!) Similarly, bedroom carpets made me want to keep my socks on ... not romantic!
On arrival we were told in a rather grumpy fashion that there was no check in until 2pm which in my opinion is very late. I explained I had requested early check in and I was told this did not count for anything and if I needed somewhere to change for the wedding I could use the disabled toilets. Not a warm welcome and certainly not offered a room as soon as available. The staff came across as rude and unhelpful.
Friendly staff and good service
We stayed in the Courtyard. We thought the bedrooms needed a little TLC. Paint peeling off the walls etc.
Cannot think of anything
Convenience of the location, room & bathroom clean, Staff helpful, good size car park,
After enjoying most of our stay Sunday breakfast put a dent in our experience. Happy to relate details over the phone if you wish to call us. We'd like to help you get this right.
Very friendly staff who are happy to help with all requests.
Room was quite small for price.
Beautiful courtyard/garden for al fresco dining and drinking. Lovely room - good size, clean and fresh décor. Staff were really friendly.
Road noise was a bit of a problem for week-day lie-ins.
no where to hang towel in the bathroom, could have a wide screen tv
Quality of food in the restaurant & breakfast choice very good.
No Bottled Water, lighting in room could be improved.
Great staff (all English ! ) Good size room/bathroom. Easy to find/close to town,
Lighting not great to read by in bedroom. Food good, but will not keep the punters coming back. Ideally would need triple glazing to shut out A4 noise.
clean, excellent bed, great staff. Note that the 'superior' room looks around onto mini roundabout at the front. Better off to pay LESS and get a room with a view over the water/'bear island'.
wifi requires you to sign up to a provider which requires you to agree to receive spam from 3rd parties. The breakfast overall was very good (juice, pastries, fruit, cereal etc) but avoid the cooked English breakfast...truly woeful.
great midweek stay large room comfy bed good english breakfast staff friendly.
Room had a balcony with nice view and was quiet. Lovely breakfast which was cooked to order. Staff very attentive.
Room was very hot at night even with window open. Took a while to find room as it was dark when we arrived and they are spread out and lighting could have been better.
Very spacious superior room, with comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, and as we requested, it was quiet. The staff were very pleasant, and a light lunch in the sunny courtyard with a couple of glasses of wine was bliss. Good location for walking to the town, and only a short hop from the M4. Very nice hotel in a very nice place!
Alas, I think the breakfast cook needs a little training on cooking food properly so it looks & tastes appetising, only part of our stay that was sub-standard, very sorry to say.....
A comfortable stay and the staff were very polite. Breakfast was very good.
Staff were friendly but also courteous and professional. The decor and furnishings in the hotel were well chosen. I'd read some poor reviews regarding food. We only had the breakfast and that was great! Couldn't fault it. Overall, it was a lovely stay and the little brook outside our bedroom was idillic for some lovely photos. Thank you. D. Court.
Nothing really. To be picky, the hot water was exceedingly hot, so had to be careful when setting the shower.
Good location in town centre. The grounds with the river and the garden were attractive. Reception and bar areas well maintained. Staff were welcoming and efficient.
The accommodation is in need of upgrading. Torn curtains, stained carpets, scratched and worn furniture. Bathroom very basic and mould surrounding the bath. Had to change room because floor of the shower was dirty and rusted fittings. The rooms in the annexe are accessed by outside stairs with treads that are worn and dangerous. Chipped woodwork needs repainting. The restaurant serves basic bar food - sent back Steak and Ale Pie containing cheap, tough meat and reheated chips. Fellow customer also complained. Manager acknowledge poor quality. This chain hotel needs good housekeeping and a management who pay attention to detail. Had the impression no one supervised the staff took pride in what they were doing.
Nothing changed standards are still very high from my first nights stay to my last :-)
