We have stayed there several times and always found the service, food and location excellent.Very convenient to walk to Stephen Joseph Theatre(our main reason for visits),and also good for walks to beach, town and cliff tops. Very small car park, but hotel issues free vouchers for parking in the street nearby. Would like restaurant to open a bit later for after theatre meal. These are only slight drawbacks ,that haven't stopped us staying there.

You are left to do your own thing. Brilliant crousaints Poor breakfast experience, surly staff, cool tea and coffee, dirty coffee cup had to be replaced. Staff did not take used plates etc away but left everything on the table. Breakfast food was generally good but the menu gave grilled kippers as an option, but when asked for a couple of kippers they said kippers were too expensive and chef says you can only have one. When it came it was not a fresh kipper but a part processed one and even worse it was not fully cooked! The breakfast experience lingers on the mind and will probably mean that we will try another hotel when next in the area. When checking out we were not asked how we enjoyed our stay.

The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable with extra pillows available. The full English breakfast was very good, and the dining room calm and quiet. The staff were friendly and service was quick and efficient. The television in the room had limited channels--a minor point though.

We enjoyed an evening meal with a couple of acquaintances in the Brasserie. After initial problems of a used bed, we had an upgrade to a spacious suite which was very clean.

The location is great, the warm spacious room was most welcome on a very cold day, the friendliness and helpfulness of staff, and a very good breakfast (cooked to order), and finally value for money. I booked a twin room and was given a double, but I did not ask to change as this was fine. However,I do think Reception could have told me when I checked in. The bathroom was fine but, personally I did not like the taste in the toilet seats! Never seen any like this before. The one in my room was bright blue and patterned and horrible (but very clean). The shower head was difficult to control and so I got soaked in cold water while waiting for the hot water to come through. Not pleasant on a frosty morning in January.

Friendly staff, good location When we went down for breakfast they had run out of eggs, sausage and beans which didnt leave much of a breakfast. Surely if you have paid for breakfast in the room price they should make sure they had enough supplies. Parking spaces very limited.

Good bar with friendly staff. Stair carpets worn, dirt in our bathroom behind seating pans of toilet and sink , downstairs reception often busy with receptionist in back office on phone and no one comes to help you. reported a lightbulb out on arrival in our room and despite reassurances it was never changed. room got lovely curtains but is a little tired. tv very old and reception poor and number of channels poor. video in room under tv, why? they went out years ago and there were no videos provided to play?

Nice bar and restaurant. When we first arrived we were given a room on the 3rd floor, which being an attic room was very tiny! My husband is 6;1' and he couldnt stand up in 2/3 of the room! We asked for a different room and were immediately given a room on the first floor which was ok. The receptionist said if I had mentioned when booking that my husband was tall they wouldnt have given us that room! Rather bizzarre I thought! I have never had to specify our hieght when booking a hotel before! The 2nd room we had was not that great. It was cold becaus ewe had arrived an hour early and the heating wasnt put on till official arrival time. As its december I find that a bit odd not to have the heat on all the time! The room itself was clean althought the bedspread looked a bit grubby! The bed was quite hard and uncomfortable and only two pillows each both rather flat! The bathroom was the real letdown though. There was black mold around the bath, floor, the mirror and in broken tiles on the floor. The window was old and very draughty, and the only source of heat being a towel rail was insufficient so the bathroom was quite cold. The radiator in the bedroom was under another old draughty window and the curtains were so long that they blocked what heat it gave. We ended up rolling the curtains up onto the window ledge so the room would warm up. No individual heat control either! The bar prices were high (23 quid for 4 drinks) Restaurant had limited choice and was rather boring) Breakfast was ok but only average. Another guest told us about a hole in his bathroom which caused water to drip into the kitchen below and staff to hammer on his door telling him not to use the shower! He also said others in his party had complaine dabout mold and broken tiles etc. This and other negative comments on this site have led me to think the management do not take cleanliness and general maintenance seriously. There is no excuse for black mold ever!

I work in the hotel industry, I know what to expect from a three star hotel. Beiderbeckes meets all the requirements and goes so far beyond. The rooms are exelent and well equiped. The staff are helpfull. The food is fantastic. Its just a pity we had to come home. When I go to scarborough again, this hotel is the first I will call.

From arrival, the staff were pleasant and friendly whilst still maintaining their professionalism. They were extremely helpful with our situation, parking and check out - something you do not receive from chain hotels. A very sizeable room and bathroom - both spotless. Having disappontingly tried numerous hotels in scarborough, we shall only be using Beiderbecke in future - a world apart from the others. I have no negative comments whatsoever. If I was to make one, then maybe the size of the car park, but this did not affect us - we used the last available space, but there is a muliti-story 50 yards away which we have used in the past, so even this isn't really a problem.

We really enjoyed our stay and would stay again. The location is also excellent as you are a short walk from all the attractions and amenities of Scarborough.

The hotel itself downstairs is very nice, I have eaten there previously and the food and service were good, however the quality of the rooms are not 3 star, the bed had a cover that looked dirty and from the 70's, bathroom flooring is from a swimming pool. No iron, no flat screen tv, net curtains are filthy, room was small bed was only a double. I will not be staying there again.

“It is a wonderful building with a rich history, the price was spot on, I took my mother with me and as she is 84 I politely pointed this out and requested a sea view for her, we were both given Premier rooms with big windows superb views, I would recommend room 34, level -2. The staff were very good and the buffet breakfast brilliant, my mother enjoyed her first cooked breakfast for 15 years, bless her. A big thank you to all at The Grand Scarborough” Paul, Boston Spa |
