Food was excellent. Welcome warming, little extras like free juice, nice toiletries and bath robes. Tea and gluten free cake on arrival. Historic building with lots of charm.
Having to leave and not trying dinner.
We love the food here especially dinner. The bed were nice and comfy. Looking forward to go back again in summer.
A comfortable small family run hotel that meets every need.
Just off the A303 looking over a valley. Small restaurant with rooms. Room comfortable and slept very well. Liked the idea of a separate guest lounge to relax in. Everything clean and well supplied. Excellent host.
The light on the wall in the room (Shelley) is placed right next to the tv which did cause a bit of eye strain. The breakfast was very good overall, although the sausage was a bit too firm and dry for our taste.
The welcoming and very cheerful owners, the food, nice bed too. They did everything they could to make our stay comfortable and the dinner (plus the two breakfasts) we had there were excellent. Good wine selection.
THE WELCOME BY THE HOSTS FROM THE MOMENT WE ARRIVED, LIKE STAYING WITH GOOD FRIENDS. REFRESHMENTS AVAILABLE TO HELP YOURSELF IN THE HALL, ROOMS FULLY EQUIPPED. EVENING MEAL LOVELY, ARE PARTY ALL HAD DIFFERENT CHOICES, WE WERE ALL HAPPY.
NOTHING, WOULD RECOMMEND AND STAY THERE AGAIN
Accomodation and food (breakfast and restaurant) was brilliant. Although on main road property well glazed to eliminate any traffic noise.
Nothing adverse to comment on.
The owners were accommodating and helpful. The night was restful.
Catching a taxi after the wedding to get to the Belfry was a bit of a palaver (not your fault, and you did warn me about it.)
I stayed for one night - comfortable bed and excellent room facilities, extremely friendly owners what I saw of them.
the Belfry is a little isolated now that the local pub has closed. unfortunately I didn't realise the restaurant was also closed on the night I stayed (should have read the small print). I had to drive to get an evening meal - which was a shame as I had already had a long drive down to Devon. the local church bells ring all night, didn't bother me but another guest had a disturbed nights sleep.
The owners could not do enough for you The food was excellent especially the slow cooked steak that was served bloody and was to die for.
Possibly the church bell but no problem to us
Most things were good. The food was excellent.
The decor could do with an uplift - it was a bit depressing. Also the bathroom has seen better days.
the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic.
The church clock chimes every 15 mins all night which meant you couldnt have window open. The room was ok but was in need of redecoration, was a bit tired and shab by.
Very nice hotel with excellent service. Would definitely recommend a+
The rooms were spacious and beautiful the beds large and comfortable, and every detail had been well considered. Our food was fantastic, one fully gluten free diner and one pescatarian were very happy indeed. The hotel is quiet although it is directly on the A30.
The church clock across the way continued to chime up to midnight - but hardly the fault of the hotel owners who were entirely charming and helpful.
Lovely friendly service, clean and quiet.
We had a beautiful stay here. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping in set in a room with great character. We elected to have the three course meal too and were served food that was outstanding. This lady has great passion for her food and her ingredients and it shows.
The shower wasn't the best but who cares.
Very comfortable bed, great toiletries and grateful for recommendation to Candlelight pub for evening meal. The bedrooms are very clean and liked the little touches (poetry book, face flannels etc.)
Not having enough time to stay longer
Nice welcome and great breakfasts, especially very accommodating for the gluten free guest. We didn't eat at the Belfry but both nights ate at a great pub called Candlelight Inn in Bishopswood, a 10-15min drive down country lanes. Definitely would recommend that place for dinner!
We stayed 2 nights and had to change rooms - the 1st room was really lovely but the 2nd room was very tired and in need of renovation not Sawdays quality at all - which the owners admitted they were getting around to when they could. We were surprised they charged the same price considering the different rooms quality.
Sadly, not much. Perhaps the small terrace outside for a coffee and liqueur, after our dinner was the best part of the whole 3-day stay.
Very disappointed in the size and standard of the bedroom. I know I requested a room with bath-tub - but it was far inferior to other rooms we saw, as the cleaning staff leave all doors open till guests arrive. For example the space either side of the bed was 'bedside-table width' ! The bathroom had lino on the floor - and the secondary double glazing seemed from 'out of the seventies' - very poor quality. I made the reservation some three months before - and just had the impression that a room allocated to Booking.com guests , in this establishment, means an inferior room. As you at booking.com know I reserve many hotels during the course of a year - and this is the first time we have encountered this When my husband politely asked the Proprietor if we could change rooms for a higher quality room - his reply was "If you don't like it - then go somewhere else" !! I was almost in tears - as we were there for 3 nights. However we did decide to dine 'in' on one evening. We have no comment to make on that front - except it was alright - nothing more. It appears the husband and wife team run the place entirely alone. And having to order your dinner the day before - seems the most strange and off-putting idea. Plus - in a tourist spot such as the Devonshire/Dorset countryside to be told breakfast finishes at 9am ? - well we just didn't have breakfast. I'm pleased to say we did, however find another establishment some 6 miles from the Belfry for our next visit.!
Everything-some very thoughtful touches like fresh milk in the fridge to have if you wished. Sarah-Jane and Neil were perfect hosts .Food was terrific. We will be back in the spring as we enjoyed it so much!
The room was lovely with an arched stained glass window, comfy bed and super shower. There was a tower fan provided which was most welcome, all the toiletries were L'Occitaine and plentiful, there was juice and water freely available from a fridge in the hallway, a very comfy lounge and really top class food, even the breakfast jam was homemade. We were welcomed with tea and homemade cake and the owners really work hard to make their guests feel special.
That we only booked one night!
As on our previous stay, the owners cannot be faulted on their hospitality. The location is ideal for our needs. The standard of facilities are excellent for the price.
Cosy friendly atmosphere
The hosts were very helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were lovely and the evening meal we had was the best meal I have ever had - excellent in every way.
very pleasant couple running this business with a good menu for certain evenings during the week as long as you give 24 hrs notice.
bit noisy with the church bells opposite, when we needed the bedroom windows open during this recent hot weather!
