Lynda,
Lichfield
The beautiful, half-timbered Bell is across the street from Tewkesbury Abbey. It has a friendly bar and restaurant and cozy bedrooms with private bathrooms, some offering views of the Abbey. The Bell dates back to 1696 and is located in a historic area convenient for the center of town, local theater and shops. There is free guest parking at the hotel. The bar and restaurant serves tasty traditional and modern dishes using fresh local ingredients, with Real Ales also available. Each room has tea/coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. Hotel Rooms: 25, Hotel Chain: Old English Inns.

It was excellent value for money. The breakfast was great. The bed was very comfortable with lovely white bed linen. We were delighted to find that we had an en suite. We weren't expecting that. The bar meals were disorganised eg they had run out of jacket potatoes (there's two supermarkets just up the road) and we ordered several things off the chalk boards which they had also run out of. These things are irritating and could be easily rectified

Went there 15 years ago and it was poor but now they have refurbished the hotel and have a better quality of staff working there it is now rated at excellent. Room was spotless. Bed was spotless. Food was excellent and the service excellent. Over charged us and that should never happen. It shows the admin/accounts side needs attention. We only saw the overcharge after we had paid and was given the printed receipt. So always double check before you leave.

The Bell Hotel is in a great position central for Abbey and town and great for walkers. Room 14 has a problem with a strong 'bad' smell but once we told reception they moved us - could have been difficult if all rooms full! The room apart from that was very clean and comfortable.

Very friendly welcome, breakfast was very high standard and the staff were superb.location, as there for Tewkesbury festival, was spot on.bar had lovely atmosphere everywhere was spotless and the hotel is a beautiful building Room on the ground floor so windows opened out on to a court yard where the smokers gathered so inevitably the smoke found it's way into the room.also window open at night didn't feel that safe.not applicable to rooms on other floors.

Clean, comfortable hotel in excellent loaction opposite the abbey. Lovely evening meal with lots of choice for vegetarians. Breakfast was ok - lack of vegetarian breakfast on the menu let it down. Extra bedding was not provided in the room but was given straight away on request. The shower and bath were great. The only down-side with the room was that you could hear people talking in the corridor outside and also in the room next door. A veggie alternative on the breakfast menu would be nice, e.g. veggie sausages or veggie bacon.

It was an excellent location. The staff were efficient and friendly and the food was good. The bar and restaurant were popular and comfortable. The room was very clean and the facilities good. We slept well even though the Abbey clock could be heard it did not disturb our sleep. We had a lovely short stay however we would have gladly stayed longer. Its a good location and we found Tewksbury very clean and free from trouble and Graffiti. The Hotel backs on to the Avon and offers good and easy walks. It is also directly opposit the Abbey. The shower room / toilet was adequate for us but may have been a little cramped for larger people.

The locality. Mostly very friendly staff (but one exception, see below). On emember of bar staff was too full of himself and thus appeared a little rude. The noise form the kitchen extractor fan was irritatin late at night and early morning. The bedroom/bathroom decor was tired making the price seem high.

My dog was made very welcome. It is very hard to find dog friendly hotels. The bell is opposite the magnificent Abbey and only a short stroll from the river and ham. The food was excellent and very reasonable priced. It's location can't be beaten. Tewkesbury is a historic town with many tudor buildings. If you like History you will adore Tewkesbury and the bell Hotel. Very clean and comfortable.

Well located opposite Tewkesbury Abbey with a free car park Reception told us to go to room upstairs and follow signs. This entailed negotiating 2 flights of stairs and 9 doors with bags when in fact the room was accessible from the ground floor. Hotel takes pets so dog at entrance to restaurant for breakfast.

Huge industrial size kitchen fan outside the window roared until 10:00pm. Main water line broke before that, no water in bath, sink, toilet. Restarted after 2am then made terrible noises from then on. Kitchen fan started up at 7:00am. Worst night in England in a month. Staff tried to be as nice as possible but the night was a disaster. Left after one horrible night.

Excellent location opposite the Abbey, with short walk to Avon Mill stream and pleasant meadows. Tewksbury an interesting town to explore, and the Bell situated at the quieter end of town - churchbells not a problem. Good breakfasts. Young attentive staff. All very helpful. Other meals also reasonable. Kettle and room hot drinks appreciated Bedrooms in annex not large; bathroom good. A small fridge would add to useful facilities.

Bar and restaurant good. Bedrooms dated. Could do with face lift. The bathroom in the room we stayed in had a nasty smell about it - could have been damp. However staff pleasant and location good. Bathroom had nasty musty smell. Would recommend it for a couple of nights not sure about longer stay. Handy for ameneties and local travel.

Great shower. Good breakfast with appropriate music in the background making a lovely change to some places one goes to. Very pleasant and friendly staff. Really liked the b&w photos of Tewkesbury on the walls of our room (good touch), Doors a bit low (not much one can do about that in an old building). Bath and loo a bit tired but not a problem, Didn't like the 'brown'(?) gloss paint on the doors - very boring colour.
