Emily,
Londn
In the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, this charming 18th-century hotel has picturesque gardens in over an acre of its own grounds. There is free Wi-Fi and free parking. The Bell Hotel has a traditional, oak-beamed restaurant, offering fine cuisine in cozy surroundings. During the summer there is a patio area, in addition to a relaxing lounge with winter log fires. There is a separate wing at The Bell, which has a small number of quiet bedrooms overlooking the orchard gardens. These rooms were refurbished in 2010 and have a modern decor. The Bell Hotel is less than a 10 minute walk from Charlbury Train Station, where trains reach Oxford in 20 minutes. There are also direct trains to London Paddington. The Bell is also 7 miles from Woodstock, which was the birthplace of Winston Churchill and is home to Blenheim Palace. Hotel Rooms: 11

The quietness of our room in the annexe. Comfortable and clean. The friendliness of the staff. The excellent evening meal and presentation of food. We enjoyed our 3 nights break which were all within reach of National Trust properties and Oxford. No complaints. Perhaps a tip - coat hook on bathroom door would be useful!!

Not much - friendliness of the Manageress who was French .Room was recently refurbished with good quality shower room. Breakfast was excellent and perfectly cooked. They got our dates wrong- accused us of missing first night/told us we had to pay for Friday 10 - however I had computer print-out - no apology. Put us into the wrong room in Annex - I complained - then taken to a "Twin-Bedded" room. However "twin" beds are only 2'-6" & quite uncomfortable-perhaps ok for small children but certainly not ideal for people of varying ages & sizes senior citizens. First time we tried to have a wash and shower - lots of hissing/chugging noises from taps and no water then only brown sludge came through the taps &shower for approx 15 mins. Freezing cold - no heating on in our room-unable to turn on central heating - complained that the room was extremely cold - given a very small electric blow heater - never had any heating on in the shower room- even via. Electric towel rail. Windows are old fashioned sash windows and are not double glazed - lots of cold air coming through those esp at night. You could hear and feel some sort of vibration emanating from somewhere poss. Below but we never found out from where or why. However at night it kept us awake and did not stop until approx 1.00am Did not have dinner there - no sample menu in the room etc... Will not be staying there again certainly not value for money at £170 for two nights.

Beautifully decorated rooms, very polite staff and situated in a lovely village. Food was also very good. Ceiling mounted speakers meant that when music was put on for breakfast it travelled into the room and woke us up.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was a bit tired and in need of freshening up. No wifi. I chose it because of location, but the price of b&b was on the high side for such limited facilities.

The hospitality is brilliant and the rooms and food are really amazing too. The French lady who manages the hotel is an unbelievable person and would bend over backwards to make your stay comfortable. Really good value and Charlbury people are so freindly.

Even though this booking was for Xmas Day the reception was very friendly and their was a flexible approach to breakfast on Boxing Day morning. The room was very spacious, immaculately prepared and a real treat to come back to after a hectic family day.

The Bell Hotel lived up to all of the previous reviews we had read and is without doubt one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. The room was incredible and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Very quintessentially Cotswolds. We will be going back next year.

The staff were lovely, especially the French manageress, The food at dinner is really superb - delicious and imaginative. Breakfast included the choice of smoked salmon and scrambled egg, and the poached egg really was properly poached. The orange juice was freshly squeezed. When I asked for strong coffee, the waitress made it from the espresso machine. They seem to have sorted the rotting window frames mentioned by other guests. Our radiators weren't working, but a very efficient convector heater made up for that. I think given the general excellence of the cooking, the breakfast could do with a few extra touches - more fruit, more interesting bread, and we sadly didn't get offered the fresh orange juice on our second morning, and didn't think to ask for it until too late. Dinner did take quite a long time to arrive, but for food of this quality it's worth the wait - you just need to be warned.

Wonderful welcome and good service! We have some issues with noise in the bedroom, when bought up with the Manager this was swiftly delt with and a new room found, in a quieter area.....but not much a hotel can do about noise created by other guests...

Location in a very pleasant town. Staff were pleasant. Damp smell on entering building, small old blood stain on bed sheets and ball of pubic hair in bathroom. Needs professional refurbishment to justify the price. My other companions found their room to be 'satisfactory'. Strongly recommend the superb Bay Tree Hotel in nearby Burford for the same price.

the staff were very freindly and the food was excellent. It was very close to the venue of the course I was attending which made my stay comfortable. It was very noisy on the Friday evening with a fight going on outside my bedroom at the close of the bar followed by an alarm clock going off in the next room whilst the occupiers were out. my hotel phone was not connected and therefore I was unable to contact any staff for assistance, resulting in very little sleep. the bathroom door did not close and had cobwebs above my bed.
