Great location especially for the University. Young friendly staff. The carpets, particularly in the communial areas, were very dirty and stained and badly needed a clean. Small decorative DIY jobs needed to be done. A feel of neglect. Had a smelly bathroom -a smell that stayed all the time.

The room was adequate for a short stay and the breakfast too. Keeping the overnight case in the locker room after checking out is an excellent facility. Lack of instructions to set up the ironing board and no iron. Maybe I was unlucky but I could not get a reply from the operator after 10pm to ask for an early morning call.

Above all, it was good value for money at £60 per night for what it is. The staff are very welcoming. There are a lot of small but nice touches such as complimentary sherry and good taste design which add to the experience They offer the purchase of a parking space but there is no guarantee of a place.

Small room but comfortable. Private parking facility worked well. Complimentary bottle of water rather than just tea, coffee and fruit would be nice.

Great location in the centre of Bristol. Good food. Friendly staff. Oh dear, I don't really like to complain, because the staff really did try to help when things went wrong, but I'd describe the hotel as more 'style' over 'substance'. Most of all, the whole place needs a really, really good clean. Just sit in the restaurant & look at the window sills, filthy. And the manager/owner should also take the time to stay in each of the rooms - the bathroom was grimy & if you sit in the bath & look up to the shower fittings, they are so dirty underneath, the grouting and round the toilet was horrible. The carpets need properly cleaning and the curtains I didn't dare touch. The sheets were clean, but if you're going to offer a kettle, make sure it's clean. The top of mine had so much embedded dirt, it put me off using it. The heating in the rooms is a constant complaint, they blame it on the guests fiddling with the radiators, but I saw 2 sets of people who obviously hadn't touched them, having problems. And when all the lights fuse in rooms, guests are again blamed for using too many sockets. When it happened to me, I hadn't even spent time in the room, so my neighbours were blamed. Food in the restaurant was good, but again 'style over substance', I don't know if this is why it took forever to arrive, as there was only 5 other people dining. Why not just simplify it, it doesn't need to be 'gourmet', people would prefer it to be quicker than so fussy. We had to ask for more bread as we were so hungry whilst waiting, & were charged twice for this. We didn't like the refectory style seating, but that's a personal preference. Zero atmosphere, with just clonking of waitresses shoes echoing on the wooden floors. You feel like everyone can hear every word you say. All in all, I would however, still recommend the hotel as good value for money and for its excellent location - if you don't mind the state of cleanliness, the dodgy heating/electricitry and waiting for food, then choose this hotel. The ever changing staff did their best to help.

Friendly staff I arrived at 10.30pm and food had stopped serving but the lovely man at reception organised me olives and nuts, not exactly a meal bit a nice gesture. Bathroom newly renovated Bedroom awful, single- said I wouldnt stay there, would rather travel back home to London. Next room apparently it was the best room! Grotty bed covers, I slept in my full clothes as I didn't want to touch anything. True but I may be being extra sensitive. No fruit bowl but not a big issue.

The location was excellent, staff were friendly and room was clean, if a little small. The breakfast table arrangement was similar to a school refectory and, perhaps maintaining the refectory style, the air temperature was 'fresh' bordering on the chilly. Food was ok though.

I liked that the rooms were clean, warm and i had a lovely view to the square. I loved the attention to detail: a couple of chocolates next to our cups every day, a bit of sherry with two glasses, facilities for tea and coffee made all the difference. I loved the receptionists who were great. I loved the food in the restaurant on the ground floor.

Hotel staff very welcoming, standard of room very good. Nice breakfast. Couldn't get hot water in the shower - might have been temporary problem though. Loud party in downstairs club went on late - fair enough on New Year's Eve, but that could have been mentioned to us at the time of booking.

Friendly staff, central location and very well-designed, bright and modern interior. The room was also very quiet indeed and the bed comfortable. Powerful shower Allergy suffererers should beware that the pillows and duvets are better if you can stand feathers. Otherwise you get stuck with a blanket and flat pillows that have seen better days. Parking is a problem if you are not there on a Sunday or Bank holiday so you have to pay for the hotel garage. Although it has a good restaurant the scrambled eggs were overcooked and didn't do their reputation justice. Bathroom V. nice but tight on space.

Great location, right in the hub of the city, but located in a lovely quiet square of georgian buildings. The hotel is nice and clean, I wouldn't exactly call it luxury but it is comfortable. The dvd played didn't work and we were not offered a replacement; because the hotel was hosting a new years eve party they could not lend us an ice bucket; there was no fresh fruit provided despite this being advertised; although fresh tea leaves were provided there was no tea pot or tea strainer; the kettle was too large to fit in the sink; the large double bed was actually two singles pushed together!

Car parking Who gave 4* to this place? All negative points left by other reviewers are sadly true! Very old hotel, corridor-like room, loud clubbing music until 2am, bathroom terrible, walls and doors dirty. To be honest I was waiting to see cockroaches to complete the whole picture. For heaven's sake don't waste your money there.

An excellent hotel and very good service!!! One major concern: on registering at the hotel a swipe of my credit card was taken as is normal, however, a full print out of the credit card number was made and the person at reception wrote down the security number that is on the back of the card. This is entirely inappropriate. I should have been asked ,at that stage to enter my pin as I did at the end of my stay. The hotel should ensure that this practice stops.

I am a regular guest of this hotel on business trips. Hence, I selected it when visiting family in Bristol. Location is fantastic - in Clifton, close to an excellent range of restaurants, bars, etc. Decor, cleanliness and food are of a high standard. Some rooms are quite small, but still very comfortable. Rooms with a view of Berkeley Square are nicest. Nice touches in the room include a small carafe of sherry and bowl of fruit to welcome guests, plus leaf tea and fresh ground coffee. A thoroughly pleasant hotel! Although not expensive, there is a charge for internet connection

A great central location for several different parties meeting up. A lovely modern feel with some funky furniture in the lounge. Art exhibits added to the ambiance. Nice rooms if a bit on the small size. Pleasant and helpfull staff, usefull parking area and all at a bearable price. It always makes me a bit cross when a continental breakfast isnt included in the price..dont increase the price, just include breakfast!
