The people who own and run Beryl are the most friendly, attentive, kind and considerate people you could ever wish to meet! The house is a tresure trove that you are encouraged to explore and the only request is that you treat it with the respect it deserves! Value for money is simply superb, I would have happily payed double! Thank you for letting us stay and like Arnie we'll be back!
Every moment from when we arrived until we left. Made most welcome and felt at home straight away , in such a fabulous location and the beautiful house. The owner and all the staff were excellent.
A stunning house with beautifully furnished rooms. Everything we required was on hand and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Will definitely return again.
Impressive house with lots of character. Friendly owner and staff (and the cat!). Lovely rooms where you can sit by the fireplace and enjoy a perfect afternoon tea. Very peaceful.
none at all
visit to friends in the area - have stayed at Beryl before, - equally enjoyable. homely atmosphere, as if staying with friends
Cosy, charming, excellent breakfast and beautiful setting.
Some damp in places, but no real complaints
The beautiful building & authentic Victorian British feel to the place. Staff were unobtrusive & we were given a free upgrade
A warm welcome from the staff and roaring fire and chance to relax. The beautiful selection of antique furnishings in every room just completed the setting. To start the following day there was as breakfast to die for. Would we stay there again? Without a doubt.
The shower in our room did not get hot water to it. There was a number to call if there was a problem, but we didn't have time in the morning to wait. Here were only two tea cups and as there were three of us, my husband went without. I am sure that they would happily have brought another if we had rung down, but once again short on time, as we had a long journey home.
The room was very cozy. The four poster bed was lovely, we had a really good sleep. It was good that our teenage daughter was in a separate area, so she had some privacy in her extra bed.
The building was amazing was very big and they catered for all of our needs.
Fabulous afternoon tea upon arrival, relaxed friendly atmosphere
the decor - I'm not sure whether this is a negative as many will love it, but it's very much "1950s Royalty" if there is such a thing...... I could easily imagine the Royal Family staying there, circa 1955! It is that elegant, so if your children are "boisterous", think twice.
Very elegant, olde worlde charm, beautifully appointed and full of magnificent, genuine antiques. Extremely comfortable, and a gorgeous breakfast. The room was huge, and the decor was very much of its time.
Beryl is situated on top of a hill and the walk into Wells (about 1 mile) is all down hill through a housing estate. Walking back is hard work for the over seventies!
Everything was provided for our comfort to the finest detail. Breakfast was a meal to look forward to with many options available. The staff were exceptional and obviously very happy working in such a pleasant environment.
Wonderful welcome with roaring fire and home made cakes served in the drawing room while you leasurely check in. Beautiful room with four poster and magnificent views of the Cathedral.
some furniture was threadbare
Breakfast and the gardens and park
Nothing. It is a fair walk to Wells but Taxis are available for around £5.
Stayed only one night as a Birthday weekend treat. Fantastic setting, very warm friendly welcome with tea and homemade cake! The house is full of interesting architecture, furniture and antiques. It feels like staying in someones home but a very beautiful one. A small glimpse into a different world that you soon feel a part of. If you hate the coldness of chain hotels and fancy something to bring back the romance of a bygone era but with modern comforts and extra special touches, you will find no better than Beryl.
I loved seeing the two cats about, but I appreciate if you have an serious allergy to these, this may not be the place for you.
We loved the warm, friendly, accommodating atmosphere. The breakfast was amazing, with a brilliant choice!! All the staff were friendly and helpful (and were even able to provide an ipad charger to my boyfriend who had forgotten his). Afternoon tea being provided was also lovely touch. Rooms were very comfortable and spacious too.
Very comfortable beds Fantastic location - away from it all, yet only a15 minute walk to the centre of arguably the loveliest city in England. NOTHING was too much trouble, we were looked after so well. It is such a different sort of hotel to stay in, with its history, architecture and oldey-worldey charm; although we're not experts in these fields, it added to the sense of away-from-it-all relaxation. Very welcoming and friendly owners AND staff. Superb breakfasts.
Breakfast on the Sunday a little slow but worth the wait.
Everything. A wonderful house and friendly staff.
A wonderful and relaxing Country House, where you are made to feel very welcome.
Really friendly and professional. Very close to city centre. Breakfast was first class.
plumbing requires upgrading on second floor
Not really a negative for many but there are 2 cats and a dog - all of whom are really lovely but obviously if you're allergic you may find it prohibitve. I went without a car, which put me at a disadvantage as although it is a short and easy walk downhill to town, it isn't as desirable to walk back up again when it's hot or after dark (there's no lighting). Thankfully you could always grab a quick taxi for under £5 if you're in a pinch (although I and other guests simply walked anyway).
Wonderful building (in both architecture and sumptuous decor) with plenty of character, room and places to relax - both inside and around the grounds. If you're staying for a few days you could get away with simply staying at the hotel and be perfectly happy. There are multiple lounges - one with board games and stocked if you want to make yourself a drink - and lots of room to stretch your legs around the grounds. Patio, deck chairs, swimming pool, walled gardens etc. The bedrooms themselves are very well kept and decorated, with great views and quality facilities. The facilities are extensive and kept very well and despite the professional service there's a real family feel to the place. It's definitely a place I would want to keep returning to and it seems some of the other guests have been doing just that! I would certainly tell everyone to book a stay.
The couple next door argued and I could hear them until quite late and again in the morning.
The owner was lovely and the sitting rooms were lovely as was the room
