Beautiful old house owner very attentive as was all staff made you feel valued. Delightful setting and great breakfast in traditional dining room. Very quiet and relaxing. Honesty bar in operation which is very refreshing in these times. Would definitely stay again when in area. Room we stayed in was fairly small and slightly shabby - in need of re- decoration and carpeting although still very comfortable and bathroom was first class and spotless.

A beautiful venue, run by a very charming lady, Holly. Lovingly decorated for christmas on our visit. Amazing Victoriana furniture and collections that make the whole atmosphere classy not cluttered. Huge fluffy towels in ensuite and comfortable beds, original shutters and thick curtains made bedroom very cosy in December.

Beryl was very comfortable and the grounds were very attractive. The house itself was beautiful and furnished in Victorian style, which was a little cheap and fussy for our taste. We expected better decor for the price. The service was excellent.

Very comfortable place to stay, with a clean and well appointed room, friendly staff and an excellent breakfast. It is not easy to walk into Wells, if this is important. Because of the furniture/fittings I am not sure that this would be a good place to stay with a small child.

Unfortunately I was only staying at Beryl for one night on a business trip but wished it could have been longer. A counntry house with real character rather than an impersonal motel or lodge. All of the staff were delightful and could not do enough to help and made you feel extremely welcome. It really was home from home. If I had to sum up my stay in one word - fab-u-lous!!

The Beryl is a lovely old gothic mansion set in extensive gardens. It is packed full of antiques and has a fabulous gostly aura. The interior is somewhat tired and the decor slightly dated, but this all adds to the character of the place. Clementine the black cat slept in a babies rocking crib, right outside our room and followed us to breakfast in the morning. Holly is charming and the breakfasts are lovely, all in all we had a lovely, peacful weekend. If you like a contempory, sparklingly clean hotel, this won't be for you, it's very lived in.

The setting and the fact that the house was restored to it's original style and to enjoy oldfashioned hospitality in this modern age. On arriving home we discovered our original booking was for a first floor room, however our room was on the second floor and as my wife has some infirmity she found it very difficult to manage the stairs even though there was a stair lift to the first floor.

Beryl is wonderful. You are treated like an old friend rather than a guest. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners. The house is really beautiful, and I could have spent hours just looking round the rooms at the fantastic interior decoration and furnishings. The beds were really comfortable, and the breakfast was unbeatable for choice, taste and quality of ingredients. We will definitely try to stay here again!

The staff were extremely helpful and very welcoming. The rooms were spotless & had everything you could possibly need - lovely fluffy towels with face cloths, shampoo, handcream, soap, hairdryer, TV in room, Tea/Coffee making facilities & kitchenette for use by guests (including fresh milk). Breakfast was wonderful, lots of fresh fruit, juices, cereals, toast & full English. The decor downstairs is old world charm & lovely drawing room & cosy sitting room with honesty bar. Would recommend a stay here. Easy to get into the centre of Wells from here but tricky single track road & turn into the entrance of the hotel - make sure you read instructions of how to get there if you are coming in the dark. Cats are a bit of a nuisance as one got into our car & another one woke me up as it mewed at 3.30 am in the morning outside the room. If travelling with elderly people the stair lift is fine, but we ended up with two rooms instead of an ensuite as the twin room was on second floor & there was no way my elderly mother could climb the stairs (they had only looked at my booking requests that day, so suggest you call ahead with special requirements). Don't be put off by these comments as we had a lovely stay & would definitely go back again if in the area.

We loved the english country hotel style and the landscaped gardens. There were also two guest lounges where you could relax with a drink from a well stocked bar or have afternoon tea enjoying views over the garden. Our Bedroom was well appointed with garden and cathedral views as well as a very comfortable four poster bed. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the owner was delightful and welcoming.

Personal attention. Very unusual hotel more like an antique shop than a hotel but quite fascinating with so many items on display.only breakfast available but plenty of eating in or near Wells. Hotel supplies information on a number of them; on their recommendation we ate at the Falcon which was excellant. Breakfast was very good value with a lot of choice, fresh fruit, cheeses and meat plus cereals and a full English breakfast if required, excellant service. Lovely gardens. Need a car to get to it ,although there are taxis.. No food available other than breakfast.

Although near the cente of Wells, being less than 2 miles away, you were in the country side in grounds covering 13 acres in all. These you were at liberty to explore with total freedom. The staff greet you and make you very welcome and give a brief tour of the facilities before showing you to your room, all of which are vey well appointed. The breakfast in the morning was excellent, served in a lovely dining room with views over part of the grounds. A very nice touch is that they have what is called an "honesty bar" where you serve yourself and record what you have had. All in all this is a very nice location to get away from it all and relax for a little while.

The hostess was charming and welcoming. The hotel itself was a delight and well furbished with elegant rooms for relaxing in, surrounded by beautiful antiques. The 'honesty' bar was a very nice touch, and it was good to see people are still trusted to help themselves and simply note what they had drank. The room was very comfortable, clean, and increadibly large en-suite. The breakfasts were super, plenty of choice with a well stocked breakfast bar area. Overall, a wonderful place to 'get away from it all' with a warm welcome. There was nothing to dislike about the Beryl.

The surrounding countryside and the lovely city of Wells in which it is set. The house has been wonderfully restored with just the right blend of modern convenience and Victorian grandeur. Not a fault of the hostess, but the wooden floors mean staying on the first floor subjects one to any stomping going on upstairs.
