Building lovely. Bar area attractive and relaxing
Noisy pipes. Breakfast not very warm
It was dark when we arrived so we did not see its palatial building until the morning - amazing place. Breakfast was very good, as was the tea nad coffee facilities in the room.
There was a Christmas disco in the room under our room but it finished at around midnight and then peace reigned. No radio channels on the TV, or if there were, we didn't find them
Wonderful old building with history, beautifully decorated in the bar area for Christmas including the compulsory roaring log fire.Staff were extremley helpful and polite. Meals were freshly cooked, great choice and in abundance. Delightful venue to meet up with an old firend for a good chat. Would highly recommend
great location and great possibilities
trousers press broken, rooms small and a bit dated
We love the historic feel of the place, it was lovely to be given the chance to stay in such a beautiful place, the bar meal of fish and chips was the best that I had tasted, and the prices were reasonable too. We were well looked after at breakfast time, it was nice to be spoilt.
My only complaint for me personly was that the pillows were on the hard side.
Staff friendliness Food Room warmth
Loo needed to be cranked about 4 times before it would flush Sidelamp bulb blown The shower did not work at all and the receptionist when I went to check out said "I'll get it checked out for you sir". Not for me!! Should have been checked before we went into the room!!
A nice change from modern chain formula hotels. Easy free car park. Very comfortable bed. Pleasant staff. Good value. Location suited me.
I'm not sure that anyone there understands good food. Insufficient and underpaid staff perhaps? Requires investment in staff and fabric of (old) building, lest it deteriorates beyond recovery.
I requested a room on a lower floor at the time of booking and that’s exactly what I got. My room was very comfortable and the bathroom clean and practical. There is a good choice for breakfast and the food is well presented. The lounge bar is an ideal place to catch up with friends whilst enjoying a drink or bar snack or relax in a comfy chair with a good book. The main restaurant offers a very good selection and the staff always go that extra mile.
Nothing not to like
Facilities for older people could be better thought about my dad had a fall whilst there if hand rails were higher up and maybe hand rail grabbers were on top amd bottom of stair wells it maybe easier. Also I think the stair lift needs to be upgraded as very slow.
Comfortable well appointed room
Bar meal failed to turn up, finally an hour after the order it came but we were too tired to eat
Nice rooms, nice bathroom apart from the size of the bath. Pretty grounds.
the bath was style over substance - it looked very glamorous but was too short to be comfortable in,
Staff were friendly and inviting bedroom nice size clean over all good but could do better
In the bar had to change my beer two times it didn't taste nice restaurant wasn't very good the full English was dry the food was left out on the hot plat too long everything tasted like rubber or fat did not enjoy it at all
Able to walk out the door and into the woods, peaceful
Lots of noise keeping all rooms up late into the night, complained to staff who have failed to follow up on the issue
Exceptionally comfortable bed. Very clean. Friendly staff. Quick room service.
Wireless signal very poor on the second floor
The building and the location
Rooms were tired. Lack of maintenance - light fittings not working, TV not functioning until we were moved to another room.
The hotel was full of old world charm. The rooms are clean and comfortable with coffee facilities Staff were very pleasant Very quiet and peaceful
We found it a little difficult to find..even with a GPS
Building impressive, bedroom great, newly refurbished bathroom
Infestation of dying wasps crawling across bedroom carpet. They couldn't give me another room, so had to check out. Poor dining service and the worst steak dinner ever.
The staff were extremely friendly and were aware of the history of the former ducal mansion built on the proceeds of the Bestwood Iron and Coal Company. The surrounding park and forest allow visitors and the people of Nottingham alike to share this attractive corner of Sherwood Forest.
There are signs that the hotel is being managed on a shoestring. The building needs attention, especially the exterior, and the lawns around the house are littered - bins would help, with a regular collection rota. Perhaps a few more inside staff would help attract more guyests.
The whole setting was wonderful. Staff were exceptional. We ate in the restaurant and the service and food were wonderful. Nottingham is a wonderful place to explore with some great history on display.
All good - wished we could have stayed longer.
the setting & the place its self
i thought the drink prices was on the steep side
Setting, cleanliness, historical appeal, all perfect
Great location, lovely old building set in beautiful parkland
Decor and furniture really need updating. Heating was on full blast and no way to regulate it other than open the window and contribute to global warming. Weddings both nights we were there meant it was quite noisy till midnight. It poured with rain and the staff had to put buckets out to catch the rain that was coming through the roof
curtains hanging off rail damaged walls extension leads lying around leaky shower with water pouring all over floor tv remote didn't work the prospect of being charged £20 each for my two dogs
Deserted dining room for evening meal and breakfast . Small bedroom.
