Staff were polite and the standard of food was good. The up stairs had a damp smell in the coridors. For the price of the breakfast it was inconsistent from day to day dependent on the capability of the chef, one day it was a poor buffet the next it was cook to order which was very good.

Very attractive location, bright spacious rooms. Breakfast nicely cooked. My husband does have a mobility problem and as the hotel had no lift he had to use a very inefficient chair / stair lift. This proved very slow and it was a rather embarrassing procedure as the staff member trying to assist was obviously unsure how it worked. I had earlier advised the hotel that as he had a heart condition we would need easy access to our room and at no time did anyone think to let us know that the hotel was not suitable for visitors with mobility problems.

The hotel setting. Staff are friendly and answer any requests made efficiently, eg room you wish to stay in. And the chef does a mean club sandwich, excellent value for money. Hope to stay there again. Live locally so nice to stay there as it feels as though i've made a trip to countryside

Hotel Building is Beautiful. We stayed on the 2nd floor in room 34, no lifts and up and down lots of stairs and corridors. The bed was very uncomfortable, celling had cob webs, and the shower on the afternoon of the day we arrived was cold and had no power, however the following morning it did get hot but still had no power. We had a wedding to attend in the town centre, was advised by reception it would be £8 in a taxi, we payed £12!!! This was the only hotel we could get a room as hotels in the city were all fully booked. We paid £80 - room only, we have stayed in better hotels for a lot less.

An intersting building with history. Believed hotel was in a country park which it was but while a nice setting for wedding photographs, disappointing for walking. Most of the park was surrounded with housing estates. Some bedrooms obviously had lovely views. Our very drab bedroom was at the side of the hotel above two skips which were full of black bags and a broken chair.

very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Beautiful ambience. We unfortunately had a lot of noise outside our room for much of the night - people shouting and arguing in the corridor!

The friendliness of the staff and the immediate impact of the building with its historical connections were certainly highlights, however, the most impressive part of the stay was the catering, rarely have I tasted such excellent food and the presentation was superb. The chef is not only to be congratulated but everything should be done not to lose his services.

The place has tons of charm -- an old country lodge situated in a wooded park. It was fun snaking around staircases and halls to our room. I would gladly return just for the atmosphere. The room was comfortable and spacious, but modestly appointed. We enjoyed the trek to our room (it's part of the experience!), but I can see how others might now. While there was a wide selection of foods available at breakfast, we found the taste to be somewhat lacking.

Could not wait any longer for the cooked breakfast. From my experience, the kitchen and staff were not 'geared up' for the business person in a hurry. Poor service!

I attended the wedding of a very good friend and the whole day was amazing, from the service (in the hotel chapel), the wedding breakfast, the evening reception and even breakfast in the morning, everything was perfect and the staff were very attentive without being intrusive. I have written to the hotel to say thank you for making it such a memorable day for everyone involved.

The staff were so so helpful and polite, they could not do enough for you. The room needed some attention, leaking sinks, poor shower, light bulbs not working. Windows were painted so they would not open so poor ventilation, especially in the bathroom. We stayed for a wedding and as I said the staff were fantastic and we had a lovely time.
