Delightful family owned and operated hotel close to walking Dumfries. Staff friendly and helpful, our room was large, clean and the bed was very comfortable. Room service was a blessing after a long day on the road. A good choice for Dumfries!
Convenience to station, relaxed atmosphere
The building has a lot of charachter, nicely furnished throughout with a very nice bar/lounge area. Excellent location, opposite the train station and only a short walk to the town centre. Rooms comfortable and spacious. Very pleasant staff. Good breakfast.
Everything was to our satisfaction
the room was nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable. Staff were excellent
Bathroom needed updating
The hotel was a beautiful traditional red brick building right opposite the railway station. Helpful staff, comfortable rooms - just perfect for our needs.
Breakfast room was on the lower ground floor and was rather chilly.
This hotel is fantastic ,all the staff are more than happy to be of help . Rooms so clean, I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough
Nothing at all just wish it wasn't a business trip and I could have stayed longer
Staff were very friendly en-suite had some mould a definite turn off food was excellent and facilities were fine would have preferred bar meals to the restaurant for relaxation purposes overall it was good
Breakfast was excellent Bed was comfortable Staff very friendly. Ideal spot to get the early train
The low beam in the room which could be painful.
Room and food and staying in a historical building close to the town centre
Room very clean and comfortable, very friendly & helpful reception
We felt that the Lounge Bar couches against the wall could be doing with being recovered
Good location for those arriving by train.
Needs some redecoration of the room.
Welcome and friendliness of the staff. Location of the hotel ,convenient for town and also in a quiet location. The conservatory and garden gave a very relaxing feeling in which to chill out.
Nothing, maybe slightly dated but that added to the charm
Friendliness of staff.
Bathroom tired and needs a freshen up
The superior room was spacious and comfy.
The evening meal in the bistro. Our booking made in the afternoon at reception had not been given to the restaurant. Our main courses arrived late. Other guests who arrived after us were served before us. My wife sent her main course back as it was a plate of hard broccoli and no pork to be seen. My meal was dry and had to ask for gravy which did not arrive for a further ten minutes.
The receptionist upon my arrival was rude and cantankerous. The rest of the staff on the other hand were very good.
Great sleep in a very comfortable bed. Parking included was a bonus, and the location was close to the city for amenities. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a good place for a short stay.
Overall hotel décor could use a little spruce up, felt a bit tired. The lift was very claustrophobic in particular!
The large airy room with plenty of natural light. The décor and furniture were lovely and clean and in keeping with the building. The staff were most helpful and obliging. Excellent breakfast.
The plastic cups in the bathroom. Glasses would have been preferable.
It is an old hotel and I notice that such a lot of work was done (certainly in my room)just to make sure that everything a traveller would need was indeed there. The décor and bedding were all in excellent order. It was (unusually for me ) value for money
Sorry no complaints, service in the dining room for breakfast was excellent and it was indeed great to get a cooked breakfast that was really hot, a rare thing in this day and age as the normal breakfast is a self service lukewarm buffet
Friendly staff Great food Central location Clean and fresh rooms
Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast cooked to order. High-quality free Wifi. Free parking close to front entrance. Short walk to town centre. Quiet room - good sleep. Well cared-for period building.
Excellent hotel, ideally situated for the train station and it takes only 10 minutes to walk into the middle of Dumfries. The staff are lovely and so helpful and the food is top notch. We will definitely be recommending this hotel.
The location across from the train station was ideal. I loved the four poster bed, the spaciousness of the room, and the bathroom facilities. The breakfast was great and all the staff were professional, efficient, and helpful. I appreciated the free wifi and how quickly I connected!
The steps up to the entrance were hard to maneuver with suitcases. There truly is nothing else I was unhappy with or didn't like.
