Brilliant value for money, lovely building and helpful staff.
It is a nice place to stay I have stayed there a few times and every time it's been great and never had to make a complaint. It's the best place I have been too and will keep going back .
Location. Evening food great.
Uncomfortable bed. Pillows from hell. Unappetising breakfast - why did the sausage look boiled?
Friendliness & helpfulness of all staff.
Hotel just a little 'tired' in places.
Great wifi signal.
Lovely venue. Superb breakfast
Room dated and dusty. Bathroom taps and toilet needed a good service
Absolutely beautiful place to stay! The staff are great and the rooms and hotel is stunning!
Having to leave!!
Size of room Comfortable bed Very clean Lovely breakfast
A lot of noise from the room above
Staff, room, grounds, dog allowed in, free wifi, price, 4 post bed, suite, bathroom, breakfast selection
Kippers over cooked.
Staff, breakfast, location, public rooms were great.
A couple of minor irritations -Too many do/don't notices stuck round bathroom & remote for TV missing.
Location staff very good
Location, staff, breakfast & dinner, lovely comfortable room. Travelled with our dog and tbe hotel staff were kind to her aswell.
A little dated in areas would benefit from being updated although couldnt fault our stay.
Liked the location, ideal to roam the local area and only a short drive to Ennerdale Water. The charm of the building and it's decor is a plus and my room was very comfortable, aided by the tea/coffee making facilities, free Wifi. The staff were great and helpful. The food was good and a fair price although quite traditional in its offerings but I suppose that's to be expected in this setting. The breakfast options were excellent and a great start to a day of exploration.
The facade of the building entrance side needs a lick of paint and I was cold in the bar and restaurant areas so that dampened my experinse of my evening however I would go back as it is value for money and a pleasant experience had!
The room was spacious. Breakfast was nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. lovely gardens/
This place is so old and creaks bad, we were woken several times by people walking in the room above and along corridors. The whole place needs modernising. The beds were small and uncomfortable. We were so tired after staying here just 1 night
Have stayed here several times, the house is lovely with a fantastic garden, very cosy rooms great breakfast friendly staff, jacuzzi bath just great
Good staff, nice room
Shower wasn't the best
The staff were the key - very friendly and efficient. The traditional ambience is well-maintained, the food was fine and the room was bigger than many single rooms I have experienced, with a welcome hot shower.
Minor quibbles about the room in that the bed could have been more comfortable and there was no hot tap water available.
Excellent staff - always very helpful, friendly & professional. Food - especially the 'chefs specials' Comfortable lounge area.
Location originality of building and grounds some decor
generally tired and lack lustre, could be fantastic with money spent , and more of a enthusiastic approach from staff, got the general feeling everything and everyone was stuck in a rut.
The breakfast was good & the garden area.
The bathroom was very clean but a little dated
The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. A special mention should go to the night porter (14/11/14). The room was spacious and clean and the food was very good, we had an evening meal + breakfast
The room was tired, the joinery in the bathroom had gaping holes in the cobbled together bath surround. TV was too small and had a terrible picture. Room would be better with more 13A sockets
Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. House was extremely spacious and of classy old world charm, full of beautiful antique furniture and fittings. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Very large bathrooms. Restaurant offered range of meals at reasonable price. Breakfast was great, range of choices for hot and cold breakfast. Very luxiourious. Superb value for money. Would definitely stay again.
Excellent service from staff, and very friendly welcome. Comfortable, clean and well-kept bedroom which opened out through double doors onto the beautifully manicured gardens. Public rooms and foyer beautifully restored and furnished in keeping with style of original house. Excellent breakfast and good food served all day. Very reasonably priced menu. Fantastic shower.
Double bed was a bit too narrow and not very comfortable. Felt pressured by evening restaurant staff to get meal over with as soon as possible.
Staff particularly the receptionist who was on when we arrived (20/10/14) very helpful
Felt that the £10 per pet charge was excessive - perhaps £10 per room would be fairer. Room 23 very dark, always needed the light on
