The setting was beautiful the grounds are well kept Our room was a budget room we had on special offer from £100+ to £79 our room small sofa had a massive rip the shower dripped all night and we had to cover with a towel, the hot water tap had to be open to its fullest for a drizzle, to be honest I could have stayed at the holiday inn.. But saying that the staff were fantastic and the breakfast was great even if the tables were messy

Nice rooms, warm and comfortable. Only one chair, Poor lighting. The food was acceptable, but the dinner lacked colour particularly green. The Breakfast presentation in the dining room was messy and unattractive. You have not found and returned my wife's nightgown.

Staff were very good, polite and helpful. Meal bought in the bar was nice and homemade. It was a good location for us and where we needed to go. Open fire in the lobby was nice on arrival. Not the cleanest hotel I've stayed in - main areas were fine, bathroom in our room wasn't great. It was quite expensive for meals there, £12.95 for breakfast per person and it wasn't great.

Very uncomfortable beds ( had to move room after first night). Room maintenance sub standard. Food- evening meals are substandard, over cooked an tasteless. Breakfast awful, cooked poorly, tasteless, no pastries available, waffles obviously bought in not fresh, bacon under cooked, toast never seen a grill, eggs over cooked, cereal choice poor, coffee luke warm, cereal milk warm on all 3 days so not a one off. All in all very poor stay. I stay in the whitehaven/sellafield area 3 nights every weel on business this hotel,is at the bottom of my list for future stays.

Food, warm welcome and excellent hospitality. Wonderful atmosphere, Christmas card,Christmas stocking, lovely gifts for each of us. Warm and very comfortable accommodation. Staff were both very willing and able. Log fire in entrance hallway. Entertainment was absolutely fantastic. Great value for money. Would recommend it to anyone. Altogether Outstanding! Thank you one and All!

The four poster bed. The open fire. Staff. Breakfast wasn't as good this time-no beans! They had also run out of wood for the fire. The room wasn't as nice as the one we stayed in upstairs last time. I think the rooms upstairs are much nicer.

I loved the grandure of the furniture and the building. The breakfast was horrible. Old food and drenched in oil. Service was sporadic and I needed to carry my plate to the kitchen in order to get a new breakfast cooked. Server did not come back to check and see if everything was better second time around. It wouldn't take much to bring this place up to the standard that it could be as there is so much potential.

Room 30 was well decorated and had all we needed.4 poster bed, seating area and lovely view of the garden.Bathroom fittings are a bit dated but did not affect our stay it is in keeping with the age of the hotel.Food in restaurant was lovely and good value. Would certainly recommend to others. Only small things like creaking floors above but that is because of the age of the building.A lovely stay in a lovely old hotel.

The bar was very large, and even though there were small numbers of guests, it was a lovely atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good. The Ennerdale was in need of lots of money to be spent on the hotel and gardens.

The building and gardens have atmosphere and catering is good. Staff may lack experience but are very eager. The rooms and especially the bathrooms badly need updating, and there is an air of faded grandeur about the place. It could be a really fine country house hotel, worth spending a lot more money to stay at, but at the moment only deserves 'budget' status.

Me and my partner decided last minute to go away for the recent bank holiday and stumbled across this hotel, and I'm so glad we did!! We got to the hotel early and although the check in wa not till 2pm we were allocated a room straight away and even got upgraded to an executive room!! The room was beautiful warm and comfortable and we even had a balcony! Don't listen to any of the bad reviews on here the hotel is beautiful, clean and the staff are wonderful. The food was lovely and just 10 mins from the beach at st bees and right on the foot of the lake district national park. We will use this hotel again for sure highly recommended, we had an excellent stay ;)

The location was superb. The room was spacious and comfortable. The carpet needed hoovering. The soap holder in the shower was loose. There was rubbish in the car park at the front of the house which remained there all week. The views onto the rear courtyard were of rubbish and discarded items, very shabby and untidy. The breakfast catering was poor. They ran out of bread, had no marmalade or marmite (despite them being on the menu). A large water leak sprung through the ceiling at breakfast soaking the carpet next to our table causing the lights to be turned off meaning we had to eat in almost darkness. I had a cooked vegetarian cooked breakfast: 2 poached eggs, 1 grilled tomato, 5 button mushrooms and 16 baked beans. The size of the mushrooms and beans was a joke, so few I counted them. The evening meal menu had only 1 vegetarian option and was expensive so ate out.
