Set in a grand Edwardian building, the Queen’s offers on-site dining with views out over the Solent and the Isle of Wight. A buffet breakfast is served in the elegant, Edwardian-style Princes Restaurant which also offers formal dining and overlooks the hotel grounds. Daily 2 for 1 drinks offers, from 6 pm until 7 pm, are available in Libby’s Champagne Bar. Clarence Pier’s amusement park and Southsea’s Castle are both under a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Portsmouth and Southsea Train Station is less than 2 miles away and the Isle of Wight Car Ferry Terminal is less than a 10 minute drive away. Each spacious and traditionally decorated room includes tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer and a TV. Some rooms feature beautiful views out over the Solent and of the Isle of Wight. The view from our room overlooking the solent and the Isle of wight. As we didn't request a sea view this was a bonus. before we booked we read some negative reviews of the hotel, but it was hard to find fault so they must have taken notice of these. The room could have done the a good dusting before we arrived plus the shower was playing up, but we were informed of the problem when we checked in at reception. overall these are minor faults which didn't affect our stay. I can't comment on the breakfast as we didn't have breakfast in the hotel other than say i thought it was expensive.

We had a very nice room and was within easy walking distance of all the attractions at Portsmouth. Full English breakfast was very good.. Good customer service.. If you decide to book this hotel, a phone call to reception well beforehand to check that there are not any functions going on at that time would save you a lot of trouble. We were not verbally told that there was a function on that night and were kept awake till 1am in the morning by the extremley loud thumping music. Could not be moved rooms as it was full. On checking the receipt on check out, there was a postage size piece of paper stapled to it, telling us that there was a function. They have said that they are now catering for more functions on Fridays and Saturdays in 2012 All said, their Director did give me a follow up call the next day...

We thought the staff were great - very helpful, intelligent and friendly. I guess the hotel suited us as we're into older buildings with character - we are pretty informal too so the whole style of the place suited us. 2 things in particular stood out; our room service food and iron arrived very quickly after we had let the reception staff know we were in a hurry to get to the wedding. The staff then re-heated it and provided fresh chips when we came back after the church service...and all the staff we encountered were very smiley and polite. The only negative point was the battered windswept white marquee on the lawn at the back of the hotel...maybe time to take it down?

This is a luxurious hotel with sweeping staircases, grand ceilings and chandeliers, a glass domed ceiling, a spacious lift and two comfortable bars. The location was perfect, overlooking the common with the sea front beyond. Shops and restaurants were just around the corner. The room was a decent size with armchairs to relax in by the window, overlooking the commom. The bed was very comfortble and generous pillows ensured a good night's sleep. The restaurant was closed and I am not sure if breakfast was available at all. It was not included in the room rate.

Location for both beach walks and shopping and dining. It's a great hotel with lots of potential, it needs a lot of investment to make it what it once to be.

We thought the foyer/ restaurant / bar were quite impressive and the staff were on hand promptly in all areas. The bedroom was comfortable and clean, and the guest information book covered almost aspects you needed to know during your stay - very comprehensive. There was also a wide selection of brochures etc in the reception area. Our only downside (aside from the view from our room at the side of the building) was the breakfast - sorry! it wasn't really very tasty - rather bland taste to some of the cooked items. We thought it was not worth £9.95 per person. We ate breakfast elsewhere on the 2nd morning for far less, in pleasant surroundings and it was very wholesome tasting. We stay at various hotels around the country and abroad, and have stayed in Portsmouth many many times but not at The Queens Hotel. We did enjoy our stay but thought it was rather overpriced generally.

We enjoyed the spacious room with a wonderful view over the Solent to the Isle of Wight. I thought the breakfast was just a little bit limited - fine if you want all the usual 'English Breakfast' egg, bacon, tomato option but we are more used to having a selection of other things i.e. croissants, pastries, cold meat and cheeses. On Easter Sunday I would have thought that a hot cross bun might have strayed onto the scene but there was only pre-sliced bread to toast!

The location and the view as well as breakfast were very good. The TV did not work. When I asked how it worked they just said that they were sorry but did not show any cortesy (reduction in price, free drinks at the bar in order to be able to watch TV there) -- that was a bit of a poor reaction. Also, I the room was not very nice or clearn. I had silverfish in the bathroom and the milk that was provided with the tea in my room had gone off.

The room was large and airy with excellent views from the dual aspect french doors. It was clean and welcoming. We arrived late and expected the restaurant, as advertised on website, to be open and also the champagne bar (it was a special occasion break). Both were not open, but there was no mention of a seasonal start date for these facilities on the website. We ended up trawling the streets at 8pm looking for somewhere to eat as the bar menu wasn't extensive. This did dampen what was otherwise a lovely break.

We had a very good, spacious room which was very clean and easy access to Gunwharf Quays, the Dockyard, the shops and restaurants. Friendly, helpful staff, who did not impose. We had no television for the whole of our stay and asked staff the reason several times. Some said it was the satellite from the IOW and others waiting for the Digital engineers to switch the televisions over (a bit late!!!!). The radiator in the bedroom did not work for the time of year and it was good that the weather was higher in temperature for March.

Everything was good. Nothing special....nothing horrific. Food was nice. There were minor things though....read on.... Minor things as promised. 1 - Curtain hooks were not put up properly.....so on a sunny day the room is a bit bright. 2 - The phone was not working in the room. The guests previously had left a note but it was still not fixed when we stayed. So we didn't bother letting the hotel staff know.
