The view from our room overlooking the solent and the Isle of wight. As we didn't request a sea view this was a bonus. before we booked we read some negative reviews of the hotel, but it was hard to find fault so they must have taken notice of these. The room could have done the a good dusting before we arrived plus the shower was playing up, but we were informed of the problem when we checked in at reception. overall these are minor faults which didn't affect our stay. I can't comment on the breakfast as we didn't have breakfast in the hotel other than say i thought it was expensive.

Very helpful staff, comfortable rooms, tasteful decor, good breakfast, sea view, nice garden, bracing location The TV's in the bedrooms had limited channels (no freeview) the bedroom was rather narrow and you had to be careful not to hit your head on the tv on the wall maybe nedded some investment in the overall appearance

The room was very clean and in good decorative order. The bed was big and comfortable. The hotel is very clean. The night porter took 10 minutes to let us in as we went out into town for the evening. the breakfast buffet run out of food half an hour before breakfast ended.

We stayed in room 126 It was very large and retained a lot of period features. We are great admirers of late victorian/ Edwardian architecture. The meal we had was very well prepared and good value for money Breakfact meals left on trays in the common area landing on floor 1 till 1600 hours and possibly beyond. Left hand tap unit on twin sinks in bathroom very loose.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We were disappointed with the size of the double room. The television was so close to the bed that it was impossible to view it properly and there was so little room between the end of the bed and the television that I'm sure that we would have hit our heads on it. I presumed we would get a nicer room as we paid extra for a sew view. We asked to be moved and was given a bigger room which we appreciated although I am sure this wouldn't have been possible had the hotel been busier.

The best thing about the Queen's hotel was the staff. Generally speaking the hotel shows some signs of faded glory, and it would be better value for money if the room rate (of £65 for a small single) included breakfast or was more like £45 without breakfast, but the fact that parking was included was much appreciated and really the reason I choose the hotel over cheaper options. The television in the room had poor reception, but that's really too much of a problem. To sum up: good location, free parking and excellent staff. Television reception poor. Not terribly good value for money considering the other option s available in Southsea

A very friendly hotel with a touch of elegance. When asked for a telephone number for an outside restaurant, the staff were happy to oblige. The restaurant was occupied with tribute nights so could not eat at the hotel.

The queens hotel provided us with a fantastic weekend, the quality of service provided was fantastic, the hotel was faultless on cleanliness. Our room was well presented with fantastic views, it is a grand building and will hold a grand reputation with me. I will be back. They can't control the weather, it they could it would have been the perfect weekend.

It's location and views over the solent; bed size, our Chambermaid was particularly good; and happy to greet you every morning , and a "Have a nice day smile" on her face. A good start to anyones day. Loved the attention of the dining room staff even though one or two mistakes were made in ordering; and apology and a smile put it to rights though. My only complaint was that it was too hot even at this time of the year. Perhaps the Hotel could save on heating some where along the way.

Great king sized bed, lovely view to the Isle of Wight, helpful staff Our first room was dirty and small. The toilet didn't work either. When we complained a maintenance man came to have a look but couldnt fix it. He kindly spoke to reception and they moved us to a far superior room with a great view (and working toilet) the second room was definitely worth the money I had paid

The Queen´s Hotel is a throw back to the Old Days, but in a good way. They have managed to keep a lot of the original features and updated at the same time. We have stayed there on 2 occassions now. Some of the rooms are fairly basic, but generally fairly comfortable. The Staff were friendly and willing to help where possible. Breakfast in the Chandliered dining room is great, a help yourself delight for the hungry!! It is in an ideal position just off the seafront, close to shops, bars etc and only a stones throw for the hovvercraft to the Isle of Wight.

We chose the Queens after discovering that the hotel we normally stay at when visiting Portsmouth was full. We ate out with friends and so did not have an evening meal at the hotel but if the breakfast was anything to go by then I'm sure it would have been very good. Everything about the hotel was excellent and this will definitely be our hotel of choice when visiting Portsmouth in the future. We have already recommended The Queens to other friends.

Checking out was what I liked best about this hotel I did not like the Queens hotel. It was tired, run down and excessivley overpriced. This hotel desont even deserve 2 stars. It starts with the red carpet at the entrance, filthy and grubby. The public area furnture is old and worn, the chairs dont even have any springs any more. The bedrooms are dire with no decent furniture and are tasteless. The bed was devoid of springs. The taps in the bathroom were not fastened to the bath. The towel rail was balanced such that it fell apart when you took a towel from it..Worse, the room smelled of stale sweat and the tv with reception of 4 channels so bad, it may as well not be there. This place is a rip off.

“It's a beautiful Victorian building professionally converted into classic but modern rooms. The staff are excellent and the cosy and stylish room was spotless with a lovely new bathroom. It's a few minutes from the vibrant Southsea and about 15 minutes' walk from Gunwharf Quays. Check in is at 4pm but you can call on the day to see if you can check in earlier. The cooked breakfast was delicious. We had a lovely stay here.” Linda, Reading |
