Score from 1062 reviews Very good
Convenient location, good rooms, adequate breakfast - good value for money.
[not on this visit] TV set blaring out pop music during breakfast. No free wi-fi.
Location great, friendly staff, hotel basic but clean.would stay here again.
Was upgraded to penthouse sweet, couldnt complain atall
Location, parking, friendly staff, neat to all amenities, breakfast
Position Spacious rooms with views over Cardiff. And when the teddy bear curtains are drawn the Big Sleep Hotel is unique. So cosy. And unless you want a big fry up the buffet breakfast is very good. I like boiled eggs, toast and marmalade in abundance !
Getting from street level to reception without a room no. to book in is problematical. Lug your luggage up the ramp! I didn't like the old coffee machine but the new one serves up a top class latte.
Staff got on with there job. No hassle. Willing to help when necessary.
Parking. Charge £8 per night but no place guaranteed, but you would still be charged space or not.
For a budget hotel there were a lot of space and some lovely features, like the decor of the bar and breakfast room. Continental breakfast was included and it was well presented and filling. The room was spacious with funky curtains and a very comfortable bed. There was a bath and shower and everything was pretty and clean. Of course it was basic but that's to be expected.
I can't say there was much I didn't like excapt that the cleaning staff came into our room over and hour before checkout and took the electricity card with them. It was fine, but would have been much worse if they'd come a few minutes earlier when I was in the shower.
Dirty Cold Unhygienic
Was nice being high up,you could see the whole of cardiff town.
The mouldy windows, smelly curtains, dirty bathroom/shower, which I cleaned myself
Nothing as we booked for new years eve got there only to be told we had booked the night before, you need a reminder system through text or email so that the customer has a chance to at least cancel or pay extra for the stay instead of robbing the money then asking for or the full price of a new years eve stay which we'd had thought we had booked for, I've written in this section as companies only care about positive feed back basically it was tough luck pay us to stay again or please leave the premises. So anyone reading this make sure you book right date double treble quadruple check your dates because this is how the rich keep rich. Fuming is an understatement.
price, parking, reception
toilet was wobbly, bath was dirty, bathroom was tatty, bedroom was cold and draughty.
Beds were comfy room warm breakfast thrown in with the price
I payed 37 for January stay and got breakfast with it. which is a good deal however they don't tell you that it's extra for parking and there are just a few spaces with no way of reserving one. breakfast although included was a bit disappointing as it was cheap yoghurt and stale pastries the hotel itself felt very tired and dated and the room only had single glazed rooms so you could hear the motor point venue and traffic from outside. A comfy bed but only one pillow and single beds as we stayed in a twin. overall it wasn't bad for the money but I could have got the niggle free stay for a pound more and free parking. as this put our stay upto 45
The hotel location is very convenient - close to city center and Cardiff Central.
The hotel doesn't use the advantage of it's location. The entrance from ground floor requires you to call the reception, tell your room number and name - otherwise you will not be able to enter the building. The reception is on the 1st floor, where the car parking is located. That's why I think it is not convenient for a tourist, who want to explore Cardiff by feet. It makes you feel like a prisoner in the hotel, does not inspire you to leave the hotel building, because of complexity when returning back. Why not make use of hotel room card as a key to enter the building too?
tired, tatty and cold room.poor breakfast choices, staff unhelpful in trying to rectify various problems I had.will probably not stay here again.
The central location.
Paying for wifi.
Noisy fan outside making a din all night job to sleep
Good location friendly staff
Being woken up early in the morning due to hot water pipe leak in room above resulting in the bathroom ceiling falling down and water everywhere
There was no natural air ( I couldn't open a window) which dried my throat out and I had to leave early. I did not receive a refund even though I only stayed two nights
the bathroom looked like it had not been properly cleaned since it had been installed dirty lack marks around the bath and crack in the sink are never inviting
essentially provides the same facilities as premier inn but at a fraction of the price
I had to leave at 6.30am so didn't get chance for breakfast as it didn't start until 7am which was a shame.
bed room size location
not clean.. no cold water in bathroom for 2 days... too many staff walk into your room when you in... room never been clean over the weekend.... no free wifi .... wifi badly explain when when you paid for it
The Big Sleep was situated just across the road from venue, very convenient and reasonably priced. Breakfast also included in price. We could also park our car in the hotel car park!
Main criticism was radiator was not working in the bathroom and it was a very cold evening. Room was basic as was expected, carpets dirty and pillow cases ripped.
Location and nice big room close to town centre
Staff some times blunt no plug for a Barth payed for breakfast included but did not eat it as other guests was messing round with the food so ended up checking out and going to the local Burger King was not happy about that
was very comfortable. I asked a good room for my boyfriend's birthday and they gave us on the 10th floor. The view was amazing, warm room and the bed was like heaven.
Wish I could say cheap and cheerful but it's not cheerful very poor I stayed here 5 years ago and thought it neede a re vamp then it definitely does now it was cheap that's all! Think it's only the reputation keeping it going
The list is far too long it need a lot of money spending on it
