A warm welcome greeted us at the Black Bull. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone vivsiting Scotland. The breakfast served to us was plentiful and tasted great. The complimentary wine and water was an added bones.

Friendly staff Clean Good parking Small room with dogs and large bags despite booking in early Jan Ran out of haggis lager and local whiskey on first day of a bank holiday weekend suggests poor management.

Staff friendly but had a problem booking in as they couldn't find our reservation. Booked junior suite which was nice, they had a large flatscreen tv on the wall which didn't work when I asked they said it had just been fitted but when I booked 4 weeks earlier it had it then. Overall enjoyed our stay, think it needs a wee bit of maintenance here and there.

My husband and I enjoyed the luxurious rooms, and the little touches like the bottle of wine in the room. Your food in the resturant was fantastic and very reasonable priced. Breakfast was also very good. Lots of variety. The staff were very helpful and cheerful which does make a difference. Overall a very enjoyable experience and would reccommend

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was lovely and we were given a complimentary glass of wine as we came in from a walk and headed upstairs to our room. The little details and the courteous staff made it a lovely place to stay. Very relaxed and friendly.

The evening meal was lovely. Decor was very dated and old in areas of the hotel. Hotel did not know about the booking therefore room was not ready on arrival. Noisy generator of some kind all through the night.

The room size was quite large for our family of four and the staff was friendly when we could find them. We had the junior suite and the Black Bull held their Hogmanay celebration in the conservatory literally right below our room until 3am without ever once mentioning it beforehand. The noise from the band and the bagpipes was incredibly loud! We had a flight to catch the next day and should have been told that our room was unusable for sleeping until 3am. Furthermore, the next morning there was not a single employee in the hotel, much less kitchen staff available to cook breakfast. I finally found a small typed sign taped to the wall stating that they were serving brunch starting at 10:30am. We had hoped to eat at 9am and had to leave by 9:45am. We were never told of the change in breakfast hours. In the end, it felt like a total ripoff to pay for a bed and breakfast room and not be able to sleep because of their party and then not get any breakfast either!

We liked very much the room as it was a nice size and very clean. The food at the restaurant was also very tasty and well presented. Very different than food from a pub or hotel of the same kind. It was also a great thing to have a pub that was kind of detached from the restaurant area and rooms. The only problem we found was when we wanted to take a bath and no hot water was coming out. Only hot water for taking a shower seemed to be available. But at the same time we did not bother asking about that problem so maybe it would have been fixed if asked.

Very comfortable room, lovley and warm on arrival on a cold day and welcoming look to the hotel, Good appealing and value menu with deals advertised clearly. We opted for pre theatre menue but were chared full rate when we pionted this out it was quickly sorted but not even the briefest apology given. I had ordered the fish pie but was not informed untill it was infront of me that there was no mash for the top, which is part of the dish, my hubby then ate his meal while I waited for the potato wedges I asked for as an alternative was prepared. For desert I asked for my sticky toffy pudding to be piping hot when it came it was rock solid having been overdone in the micro it was sorted out quickly with a replacement when I said but I would rather that there was no need. At breakfast we both wanted potato scones but were told not available( not sure why as both well stocked Spar and Co-op shops within 3min walking distance) we both chose poached eggs I wanted them well done my hubby soft done. He was served his at least 5 min before me. So on 2 occasions I was on eating a meal at a differnt time My take on our stay was was great wee hotel and set up with nice staff, but who were really not that interested or at all well trained in costomer service.

Hotel is set back from quite a busy road, and is therefore quiet.Facilities in rooms are good, and at a sensible price. Set dinner was not exceptional but perfectly edible and at reasonable price.
