This is, hands down, the best B&B we've ever stayed at. Jayne & Michael are fantastic hosts, very warm, very helpful, very kind. For us it felt like we were staying with friends. We stayed in one of the 2 bedrooms downstairs; it had everything we needed (tea and coffee facilities, television, bathrobes, towels). Our room had a view on the river and garden, and we could fall asleep and wake up with the sound of the river, which was wonderful. Separating the 2 downstair bedrooms, is a sitting lounge with a nice view on the garden & river. For the moment there is one shared bathroom for the 2 bedrooms downstairs, but Jayne & Michael have plans for an extra bathroom in the near future. As already said in previous reviews: breakfast is fabulous and nearly 'à la carte'. (but make sure you try the salmon with scrambled eggs, because it's to die for! :-) The village of Newcastleton is tiny, but there are a couple of pubs/restaurants which serve good food and 2 tea rooms, all at a walking distance. The atmosphere is in the village is warm & friendly. Upon our arrival, Michael and Jayne had pre-booked a table for us in one of the pubs, which was really thoughtful. If you love outdoor activities or just want to enjoy a stay in a peaceful & quite area, this is the place to be! We'll be back for sure!
there is nothing to dislike
A fantastic house - the photos don't prepare you for how beautiful and roomy it is. Wonderful, friendly hosts who were genuinely delighted to have us in their lovely home. Wonderful decor and extremely comfortable bed. Wildlife opportunities - hare in garden early morning. Amazing cooking - absolutely delicious breakfast!
We enjoyed our stay at Black Burn Lodge B & B
The house was beautiful, lovely room spotlessly clean, bathroom with seperate shower, we also had a seperate living room area which was great, the house stood in stunning surroundings, Micheal and Jayne were the perfect host, they made us feel at home and very welcome, accommodation was fantastic, breakfast catered for each individual's likes and dislikes, overall we couldn't have wished for a better place to stay. We would recommend to anyone.
Excellent facilities. Michael & Jayne were lovely people and could not do enough to ensure we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The small touches such as tea and cakes on arrival and choices for food and time for breakfast ensured we felt very well catered for. Definitely be back.
Warm welcome, flexible easy going, room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Bathrobes were a nice touch. Jane and Michael could not have been better hosts. Would recommend for a excellent break.
