The service was fabulous (with one of the owners waiting up quite late for my partner and I to arrive as we got stuck and were running later than hoped!). The breakfasts were absolutely excellent and set us both up for a long day (my partner competing in the Lakes 2 Day trial, me following the trial in our van). The bedrooms were beautifully decorated and the bed was divine and gave an excellent nights' sleep. Overall a wonderful place to stay!
Dot and Ed made me so very welcome with their exceptional kindness and hospitality. The breakfasts are magnificent and include good quality local bacon and sausage. Nothing was too much trouble for them and I left feeling like I was saying goodbye to old friends. The general relaxed atmosphere encouraged all of us staying there to chat with each other. The room was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The stay at Black Combe contributed greatly to the overall enjoyment of a lovely week.
There was nothing to fault at all.
Family operated guest house Friendly owners Comfortable bed Big tasty breakfast
good welcome, clean and comfortable bedroom, excellent breakfast, in a good location, convenient parking, good pub with hearty meals 50 yards, what more can you ask?
Staff the owners Breakfast very generous and filling Nearness to pub Lovely beach nearby
Wifi did not connect in our room on top floor but not really a problem altho in black spot for 3G Not knowing that to get a meal at thegb reservations are necessary or to mention where we were staying. Luckily we went early and they squeezed us in!
Beautiful location over looking the mountains. Rooms were lovely and clean with a very comfy bed. Breakfast was beautiful and very filling. I'm a vegetarian and they catered for my needs. Hosts were a lovely couple
Nothing I didn't like about this place
could not fault anything you must try the full breakfast if you have a good appetite. try the steak in the pub across the road 10 out of 10, 9 9 2014
stunning views friendly owners super breakfast
there was nothing everything was fine
The kettle in room was smelly
We were made very welcome. We brought a toddler with us and when we got there we were offered a bigger room to the one we originally booked. Dot was very friendly and offered my son toys she had and was very friendly to him too. they were very generous with breakfast and was very accommodating to provide some food for my son. Location wise it's ok, within driving distance to places we want to go.
The wifi did not work in our room. It's just gone out of the range slightly as we could get signal by going out from our room to the edge of the stairs. Toilet roll is a bit on the cheap side, so my husband actually bought our own toilet roll. However their hospitality far outweighs these inconvenience.
lovely house, good welcome biggest breakfast ever we would stay there again
Fabulous surroundings, great food, lovely couple...made our weekend even more relaxing.
Freindly relaxed stay with a good walk along the beach and good steaks at the pub across the road. Quite and comfortable.
Work in Ulverston so just a bit far to travel. WiFi on and off.
Black Combe House is in a tiny village, near a small town. The village pub is a "one block" walk away, with very good food and good local and imported beer. The House is quiet, well appointed and the breakfasts were large, varied and very good. We had room one, and could watch the horse in the adjacent pasture. Multiple tourist things to do an hour or so drive away. The near-by small town (Milom) has a very good Indian restaurant; the adjacent Italian one was ok, but didn't compare in our opinion. As Yanks we had heard the stories about English food; we had nothing but good to great food our whole trip!
There was nothing we didn't like.
A lovely older couple made us welcome on arrival. Coffee and biscuits in their lounge. My lady wife expects Premier Inn cleanliness. This matched that especially in terms of bedding. We were sent off with one of the best breakfasts I have had - dry cured bacon so no salt and the sausages have to be experienced to be believed. Pub twenty meters away has very very good steak! An exceptional rural guest house.
the owners, lovely couple.
no credit card machine, or bar.
Hospitality, more than ample breakfast, clean comfortable room with additional personal touches.
The room was of good quality, comfy bed, quiet, what more do you need. The breakfast was also of good quality.
The room is very tidy and nice, the bed is soft, the bathroom is clean, the breakfast is good, it makes you feel so homy. The owner were so nice to point out direction and when we left the hotel the gentleman even give our orange juice, they were just so nice. Definetely come around next time when in the lake district.
Nothing to complain really, the location is a little far but it is nothing to do with the B&B. Internet speed connection is a little bit slow compare to the big city, but again nothing to complain as you are in the lake district area i guess internet is not the most important thing.
The bed and breakfast is very good very helpful hosts lovely breakfast
Ed and Dot were fab. Very hospitable. Room spotless and breakfast great .
