We very much enjoyed our stay at the Black Swan & found the staff very friendly & helpful, the atmosphere cosy & relaxing & the food to a high standard. The whole hotel was imacculately clean & nicely furnished. The location was in a small, quiet & picturesque village far enough into the countryside to provide good views but close enough to the main roads to be a good base for travelling into the heart of the Lake District. We would definitely stay there again! Our room window overlooking the road but barely any traffic anyway & as long you weren't parading around in the nude with the curtains open, it shouldn't be a problem.

Angie the owner greeted us and was very helpful telling us of walks in the area. Food was excellent and the bar had a lovely friendly atmosphere. The poached eggs for breakfast were superb. A wonderful place to break our journey on the way to Scotland could have done with a longer stay.

The location was superb. The scenery was stunning. Breakfast was good. The room was small - very small but the shower was tiny. I'm tall and slim as is my partner. The cubicle was so small it was difficult to shower properly. I would pity a larger or older person if they had to use that shower. The landlady showed us to our room and a few minutes later she popped back to re stock the tea/coffee with just two tea bags and two coffee sachets. Having paid £85 for the room I thought that was rather mean.

Good food, pleasant staff. Nice, clean room. In a small quiet village. Overall, very pleasant. Could've been cheaper, but I guess that's the going rate for this kind of small hotel in that area.

Very cosy country pub with welcoming staff and excellent food. Bedroom was spacious for a pub and comfortable bed. We will definitely stop off there again on the way up to Scotland as it is not far from the M6

Lovely room, comfortable bed, friendly staff and quiet location. Menu for dinner was wide ranging and food was delicious - even tempted to a third course - whisky and marmalade ice cream: yummy!!!!!!! Breakfast also of a very good standard. We would definitely recommend to others as excellent value for money.

.The room we had was modern and the king size bed was very comfy. All the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. On our arrival we booked a meal in the restaurant for the evening. The food was excellent and cooked perfectly. Portions were large if you like a lot to eat. We would definately return and stay longer.
