Score from 91 reviews Good
Friendly staff and homely feel to hotel. Ideally located to the town centre Excellent food both breakfast and evening meal.
Felt to be short on staff covering duties which lead to some delays in service not only for the hotel but the pub side also.
We opted for the four poster bed, which was okay, but plumbing a bit antiquated.
Awful steak dinner - served on a skillet which carried on cooking it until leather.
value for money , staff very helpful, breakfast a* room clean and comfortable
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent cooked breakfast in the morning. Room a bit tired looking but comfortable.
Staff where excellent and very polite.
Room and food not very good.
great. good food
Location was good
Friendly comfortable well located.goodfood
Everyone was very friendly and obliging. Our stay was comfortable and it was quiet as we were in the back of the hotel
The parking facilities were a bit confined but it was conviemient and safe. Would have appriciated marmalade with my toast.
Staff, food and cleanliness were just what we were looking for all very good.
Dining area was a bit dark; and our room was up three flights of stairs; not good at the end of a tiring day.
Staff, especially Lucy, were friendly and helpful. Food (dinner and breakfast) both very good. Interesting period building.
Really handy location
Hotel is a bit tired & bed was way too soft
Fairly comfortable bed, good wifi, great free breakfast, shower was ok. Fairly good value for the money.
Had to drag suitcase up 2 flights of stairs. Had to call receptionist on my phone (no one there when we arrived) but she came when I called. Decor was old but clean. Fairly good value for the money. Car Park was so tiny, it was very hard to fit our car in. Don't bring a big car!
Great location in town centre. On- site parking. Good breakfast. Good service.
Price. In keeping with most hotels in U.K over-priced and poor value for money. 5-star prices for 3- star hotels.
Nicely situated, good value and friendly staff. Will probably stay again when in the area.
Every thing about the boars head
parking very tight
staff food comfort of rooms bar service location
receptionist was friendly and welcoming and helped us store our bicycles in a secure place
TV didn't work and the manageress was not polite when we asked for a discount. She lied to us about who the could make a decision. we were not impressed by her customer handling
area location of hotel hotel restaurant food bedroom bar staff
Very convenient location with car parking as long as your vehicle is not too wide. Bed comfortable.
We felt the property could do with a greater level of cleanliness.
Evening meal & breakfast were of a high standard. Historic Hotel with charming antique public areas containing period furnishings. Real ale kept to a high standard at a reasonable price.
Rooms were a bit tired. Sash cord broken so the window would not stay open on a sweltering night. They were offering 25% discount for diners with Gourmet Card. When we tried to book we were told that you had to book days in advance. This contradicted their entry which said you had to book the same day. We had to make a fuss to get the discount. This atitude seemed amazing in a restaurant with only 2 other occupied tables. They also lost business by being understaffed with one person on duty for reception, waitress and bar. People were entering the bar & leaving because there was no one around to serve them.
Very central ad very comfortable.
Was kept waiting to check in for what seemed like ages.
The bedroom was clean, and although it overlooked the main road it was not noisy. The bed was extremely comfortable and we both slept well.
Staff varied in how welcoming they were. Breakfast on our first morning was so bad that we didn't bother trying to eat there again. There was no fruit out even though it was stated on the menu as 'seasonal fruit'. It being summer I had expected summer fruits, but when I asked for some, a huge bowl of French golden delicious, bananas and oranges was brought out. They were inedible as they were straight out of a very cold fridge. Coffee took about 20 minutes to arrive at the table, and was nothing stronger than brown water. We then felt very wasteful leaving nearly 4 full plates of food at the table as the cooked breakfast was dreadful. Such a shame after we'd had a brilliant night's sleep. We won't be staying here again.
