The Boar's Head is unbeatable at the price. Simple, but comfortable, and with the arm of an old coaching inn.Fabulous value.

The description included 16th century which attracted us. The location is in walking distance from buses which suited us. Also close to stores, castle, tourist information, the original police station and the old velodrome park. A very friendly welcome at the front desk, and cheerful staff at breakfast, added to the atmosphere of this historical hotel. We would have liked a simple brochure giving some history of the building. One of us is from Canada and enjoys the search for such. The L-shaped room was different and gave some kind of privacy for each bed, and the 2-level bathroom was delightful. The sashes on the windows were broken therefore we could bring no fresh air into the room - until we found the bible, wrapped it in plastic, and used it to jam open one of the windows. Be prepared to be woken early each morning as the trucks start moving up and down the street outside at 6 am.

The staff at this hotel were very welcoming and the price was excellent Rooms were a little dated but not a problem . The breakfast was nice but could do with milk on the table as we ( all the other residents) all had to get up and use the jug on the juice table every time we wanted a cup of tea .

The room was exceptionally clean and although it was showing signs of wear there were also signs of maintenance E.G. The bathroom sink was new. The bathroom was massive which was handy for storin buggy and there was a bath which is great when travelling with small children. The hotel reception stag were very friendl and helpful. The water was scolding hot, I gave up tryin to operate the shower and had a bath instead. Breakfast was a bit odd, no napkins or fresh milk on the tables which meant we had to keep asking for things. Also the coffee wasn't strong enough for us. The bar maid was really miserable to the point of being unfriendly.

We stayed in the Master bedroom for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. What a fantastic room! Lots of hot water, a nice big bath and an excellent breakfast in the morning. On the whole staff were really friendly and helpful. The location is great- right in the middle of town and Carmarthen is a lovely town- it was easy to find as Lammas street has a few hotels and is signed when you arrive in the town. Plenty of secure parking when we stayed too. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

I enjoyed the antiquity of the building and the fact that it is a proper pub. Also enjoyed the Double Dragon. Loud fan in en suite. A lot of clumpung around on the stairs in the morning, but I guess that comes with the ancient building.

The Hotel and its faclilities are clean ,adequate and value for money. The decor of the downstairs public rooms suits the history of the place with old photos and military memorabilia The bedrooms are of good size and well appointed. The location is central. The beer (Felin Foel) was perfect. There was no member of staff to check us in.The owner ignored us and appeared either very rude or socially inept. The staff were over stretched due to a function taking place . People wanting service in the Bar were ignored or waited a long time.Do not stay here if you want a warm welcome in Wales.

Liked the olde world structure and atmosphere, food was excellent and staff were quick to serve, attentive, and polite. Saturday night entertainment was also very good yet noise could not be heard throughout the Hotel. Avery efficient and well run establishment, would certainly reccomend.

Coach holiday companies use the large layby outside the hotel to pick up & drop off passengers. Therefore using the hotel the night before we were picked up was perfect.

the stay was very good and we had requested weekend parking as reason for booking.howerver the Boss was not happy but agreed to the situation reluctantly. as we had to leave before breakfast they provided sandwhiches. they do not check their dates on milk/cream in bedrooms as they were out of date and off. the shower bracket in room 10 was broken, but our second booking on 02/01/2012 on return was much better. would use them again and recommend

Location The staff were more concerned about getting you out of the restaurant than the quality of the food at both breakfast and evening.I Have never had an evening meal with only 2 minutes between starter & main and then had the staff setting up for breakfast when there were still 2 parties of people eating. No napkins or water at breakfast but the best of all is we were given re-warmed chips with our evening meal - we know this because we even got free 'crispy bits' with them!! When we queried car parking spaces we were told that there are 15 rooms but only 10 spaces but in all their literature they boast of 15 rooms and 16 car parking spaces.A Very nice looking hotel but with very shabby service. We will never stay here again.

We upgraded to the master bedroom, which was located above the function room and the music played very loudly till 1 am. We were not put out but many wouldn't be happy after paying 85 pound a night.

We stayed for 2 nights to visit family. The hotel is an old characterful building which has been well modernised. The decoration in our room was recent and the bed comfortable - beakfast was good. The staff were friendly. An excellent town-centre location. There is free parking at the rear of the hotel but it can be a bit of a squeeze - best to park-up early to ensure you get a space. We stayed during the week and had a room at the front of the hotel. There was a bit of noise during the evening but it was quiet during the night and we slept well. We were woken in the morning by the street-cleaning cart and a bus pulling up outside - but this is to be expected for a town centre. Nothing to dislike really. It's not the Ritz but it doesn't pretend to be.

“I found the Spilman staff to be quite hospitable and attentive to my needs (particularly as I was a visitor from the US, and much less relaxed a traveler than in my youth!). The food was excellent, and my room was comfortable and quiet. I would unreservedly recommend the Spilman to anyone, regardless of origin point!” Peter, Edison |
