Not a lot really- the situation was central and there was a car park - bar looked welcoming The room was on third floor although the hotel was not busy. The decor was very tired - bed springs very prominent - breakfast ok but not brilliant - just not value for money as far as room concerned

Really noisy and not worthy of a 3 star status. Don't plan on sleeping at the boars head hotel.

Location Rooms faded and dated and poor value for money. Evening meal was appalling appearing within minutes and obviously overdone in the microwave. My family run a hotel and if this was the way their business was presented it would have gone out of business long ago. Can only conclude that this hotel survives due to its location and lack of competition.

lack of welcome - our group was partly made up of people with special needs, we were informed these people are not welcome. Broken chair and broken blind in bedrooms. Generally very poor service and facilities. We book with booking.com regularly and this is most disappointing.

the stay was very good and we had requested weekend parking as reason for booking.howerver the Boss was not happy but agreed to the situation reluctantly. as we had to leave before breakfast they provided sandwhiches. they do not check their dates on milk/cream in bedrooms as they were out of date and off. the shower bracket in room 10 was broken, but our second booking on 02/01/2012 on return was much better. would use them again and recommend

Location The staff were more concerned about getting you out of the restaurant than the quality of the food at both breakfast and evening.I Have never had an evening meal with only 2 minutes between starter & main and then had the staff setting up for breakfast when there were still 2 parties of people eating. No napkins or water at breakfast but the best of all is we were given re-warmed chips with our evening meal - we know this because we even got free 'crispy bits' with them!! When we queried car parking spaces we were told that there are 15 rooms but only 10 spaces but in all their literature they boast of 15 rooms and 16 car parking spaces.A Very nice looking hotel but with very shabby service. We will never stay here again.

We upgraded to the master bedroom, which was located above the function room and the music played very loudly till 1 am. We were not put out but many wouldn't be happy after paying 85 pound a night.

It is very homey and tradtional. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Like a bed and breakfast in the us. It is a place where families gather for darts, merry-making and singing. Very Welsh. Not upscale but clean and picturesque. On the main street in Carmarthen and central to everything.

Location, staff, and accomidation were not bad, just very dated and the food needs attention but you get what you pay for really. No wifi upstairs, meals not great and heating was sometimes not working.

We stayed for 2 nights to visit family. The hotel is an old characterful building which has been well modernised. The decoration in our room was recent and the bed comfortable - beakfast was good. The staff were friendly. An excellent town-centre location. There is free parking at the rear of the hotel but it can be a bit of a squeeze - best to park-up early to ensure you get a space. We stayed during the week and had a room at the front of the hotel. There was a bit of noise during the evening but it was quiet during the night and we slept well. We were woken in the morning by the street-cleaning cart and a bus pulling up outside - but this is to be expected for a town centre. Nothing to dislike really. It's not the Ritz but it doesn't pretend to be.

The staff were great, very friendly & made us feel welcome. We stayed in the master suite which had a four poster bed that felt as though it would colapse at any minute,it moved every time one of us moved and the pillows kept slipping down the gap at the back during the night there was also very loud live music in the bar below which made the furniture in the room vibrate,we had to open the wardrobe doors & move the hangers so they didnt touch to stop them vibrating,it was comical for a while.

Pleasant staff. Close to venue I was working at Room was immediately above bar so was incredibly loud until late into the first night and even worse on the second night when at 00.30 I had to phone reception and ask what time the music would cease. At no point prior to that night was I warned that there was going to be a live band and a continuing party. The noise from the bar was then replaced by disturbances in the street, then by the street cleaning team.

Price and breakfast was good. Ok we chose a Pub in a Town centre locaton (nowhere else close to where we needed to be next day at a reasonable price) so maybe we should have realised that we would be in for a disturbed night. Loud entertainment didn't finish until 11.30pm and then loud street noise until 2am with intermittent revellers still on the go at 4am. Only one friendly member of staff who smiled and took an interest why we were there and that was at checkout time. The rest looked sullen and whilst not unhelpful weren't overly friendly either. Rooms were adequate but the bed creaked and wasn't very comfortable, Sherpa Tensing would have had a problem with the stairs and there's no lift access. Blink and you'd miss the car park entrance which is a very tight tunnel (about 2in clearance either side of my wing mirrors - xjs). If you do miss it the one way system is a nightmare.

Friendly staff, excellent home cooked food, central location with many facilities nearby. A three star hotel which lives up to its rating. Enjoyed the history of the area and the provenance of the hotel itself. The room was cold as the radiator was not turned on.

“I found the Spilman staff to be quite hospitable and attentive to my needs (particularly as I was a visitor from the US, and much less relaxed a traveler than in my youth!). The food was excellent, and my room was comfortable and quiet. I would unreservedly recommend the Spilman to anyone, regardless of origin point!” Peter, Edison |
