Score from 121 reviews Good
Ideal location for town centre, free parking, good beer.
Heating in bar and bedrooms was turned down low. Bed was uncomfortable. Breakfast was thrown together without too much effort, cold toast, under cooked cold tomato that only had a glimpse at the grill. We seemed to be a hindrance to the breakfast staff.
Nice clean family room, good food, very friendly staff
good location for town centre
bathroom in need off upgrading.
Location; old building
Hotel and staff are a bit ramshackle. The chef didn't turn up in time for breakfast on one day; so had to leave for work without having breakfast. No apology was offered by the staff or manager
10mins to get the shower temp right. Either freezing or scolding.
Room was lovely with a four poster bed and bathroom spacious with good facilities, although a little cold due to radiator not working. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Food choice also very good.
The room we had was above the bar area and we heard almost every noise, although to be fair we were advised of late night entertainment on our 3rd night.
Convenient & friendly! Very helpful!
Too soft bed!
Stairs, bathroom shabby and dated.general appearance of room worn and needed tlc.
Everything very good. Had Sunday carvery, which was very tasty. Staff very helpfull and friendly. Breakfast very good. Plenty of hot water and the room very cosy. We requested a quiet room and it was perfect. Would definitely recommend.
One minus and it's very small. We had room number 16 which had peeling paint hanging from the ceiling directly above the bed, and looked ready to drop off at anytime.
Food was good
The managers were quite rude and abrupt, and not very chatty, breakfast a bit hit miss.
was given an upgrade to a very large room, staff were very friendly, nice bar serving a great pint good food
We loved the location. The hotel parking facility was very convenient. The hotel itself was charming and characterful, with friendly, helpful staff.
Despite the room being very pleasant, the bed was dreadful unfortunately. The mattress was hard and lumpy and we did not sleep well at all. Most of the staff were friendly and very efficient but one young lady seemed to immediately forget our breakfast order despite writing it down, and we noticed that other people in the restaurant had the same experience.
Nice setting and comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Staff friendly.
Restaurant menu lacked variety and not many vegetables on offer in the evening. The carvery that was advertised finished at 2.30pm.
After checking out of my room I was able to leave my case in reception until my departure which meant I could visit the town without lugging a heavy case around.
Because my room was on the street side it was quite noisy, particularly with people coming out of the bar to smoke.
Located in the town centre. The room was big, which was great for our family.
No lift. Small car park. The beds were falling apart and the hotel quite noisy.
It was adequate, room was basic but pretty clean. Lunch in the bar was OK.
What they don't tell you is that at weekends this hotel is more of a busy pub on a busy main street full of busy similar pubs this one came complete with drunk blokes passed out in doorway, screeching drunken women, over bearing door men that block your re-entry to the 'hotel' and best of all a very loud disco until 1.30 am Once we eventually managed to get back in he hotel, we realised that sleep wasn't going to happen and left! I've still been charged for the room mind you. I'm disgusted that a place like this can in all good conscience rent out rooms to families at a weekend with no warning even of the fact that there is a late disco, but to then charge me £90.00 for a family room in which me and my two teenage grandchildren had no chance of getting any sleep is disgraceful. We ended up sleeping in the car in the driveway where our friends were staying - yep seriously sleeping in the car was preferable to attempting sleep in our room!
the colleagues were really friendly and the food was great, breakfast was really good with a big choice for the best start of the day.
the access to the carpark was tight, but manageable with care.
staff very friendly couldn't do enough
nothing as there was nobody there to let us in at the agreed time, and the phone number given was unobtainable.
the fact that because the hotel was closed for the night,we had to drive 300 miles to get home, and this isn't a good idea when you are tired and in your mid seventies.
Hotel was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful.
TV was too small when watching from the bed. Wi-Fi was intermittant.
great staff, good food, perfect location for shopping
room needs some updating, and tidy up
Beds worn out booking not received given room in rear of hotel no direct access to pub bar area tired and worn
