The thing I like best about The Boat Hotel is it's location in relation to the golf course and steam train with easy access to Aviemore and it's surrounding area. We were given 2 single rooms for our first night (there had been a problem with the website which allowed us to book and pay for a room they did not have. I was put at the top of the stairs near the door and the noise till late on was??? No hair dryer in the room, Breakfast the next morning was meager, I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon which was very nice but my husband had the cooked breakfast that was a minute as was possible. We were then given a junior suite for our second night to compensate for the first night debacle, well the suite was nice but the TV did not work and there was no water in the hotel, so all washing had to be done with 1 bottle of water! We went to the desk about the TV (no one answering the phone) and were told they knew the TV was not working and they couldn't fix it. Perhaps never again though we have enjoyed many stays previously.

Lovely food - when eventually I got seated & served. Location is good for holiday purposes, I was there on business so could not appreciate the surroundings. The room was small but adequate, overlooking the outside seating area, so was quite noisy til later. Comfy bed, but tired bathroom. I arrived at 8pm and found that they had already charged me for the room, so I had to pay a seperate bill for anything I ate whilst there. I did not get a vat receipt just a statement, which I did not realise til I got home (was on business so needed vat which is standard at all other hotels I have stayed in). I booked a table for 8.30 and was overlooked in the bar area for a couple that came in and took the only table available. When I reminded them I was their for a meal, I was taken to a 2nd restaurant area (a back room) at which point I was served by a lovely waitress and had a lovely meal. Internet says free on the initial advert page for the hotel, but further in states it is chargeable. Poor mobile phone reception in hotel.

Polite courteous staff seeming to appear from nowhere when a door needed opening or service required. Close enough to Aviemore where it is all happening (taxi distance if you want to party) but far enough to be quiet and relaxing. Excellent base to explore the area. Food was delicious with regular pub grub type meals to more adventurous combinations of flavours, breakfasts excellent with not a tinned mushroom in sight! Will definitely return. Showers a bit weak and small and lighting poor in the ensuite but wouldn't stop me returning.

I was made to feel as though I was a special guest and my visit was appreciated. This visit was my second within the same month and I was not dissapointed upon my return. The welcome and attention to customer detail was so good, I will certainly be returning again if and when my business takes me to this wonderful area of Scotland. Thank you to all the staff. There was nothing to dislike apart from the weather, however I cannot hold the Boat Hotel responsible for that.

Lovely traditional Scottish hotel in a stunning location. Quality of stay is much dependent on price. I was on a business trip with a colleague and in single room accommodation which is very basic - shower fittings faulty and room very small. However, staff are extremely helpful and food and ambience of hotel are excellent. I was gobsmacked to find that they charge for wifi at a whopping £3 per hour. Staff, location, ambience and quality of food

The food was delicious, the fine dining was a wonderful experience. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. We stayed in a classic room, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. A nice touch was the towels layed out as swans on the bed and the chocolates. The new years eve hogmanay gala dinner was delightful and the scottish dancing and bag piper was amazing. I would highly recommend this hotel. Nothing. We stayed in a classic room, which was a bit on the small side and is due an update. It the website did state the classic room is a budget room and it was good value for the price. Was clean and had ample storage.

The staff at the hotel were very attentive and the dinner we had both evenings was excellent. The shower in the bathroom was at a very low pressure which detracted from the room and made having a shower a long process. It could have done with being a power shower.

Staff were very helpful, food was excellent, rooms were very good, and good value for money. Location was excellent for our purpose of walking. Only thing that marred the break was the height of the ceiling in our friends room the bed was too near the slope of the ceiling making it difficult not to bump your head otherwise every thing else was great

The young gentleman in reception when we arrived was extremely helpful and arranged everything we required. He was polite, attentive but not intrusive, and he ensured that we were able to take an early breakfast so that we could make our first appointment on time. His attitude was exceptional. Please pass on our thanks. I have already recommended this hotel to others.

We had a very lovely room and the reception by the manager and his wife was sooooo friendly and kind. The view from the classic, cosy and well furnished room was so pretty, facing a communal garden (once the Stationmaster of the Strathspey Station's "tatty and neep" allotment)designed by the bbc Scotland Beechgrove Garden team, which was being tended as we arrived. The lynchgate entrance to it was very pretty. The foyer to the hotel was spacious and classically modern with black and white tiled floors. What a lovely hotel.

We were a bit concerned after reading reports on trip advisor about this hotel and when we contacted booking.com they spoke to the hotel and we paid more to be upgraded to an estate room. The staff at the Boat were very friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and it was nice to see excellent young people serving whose first language was English. The hotel is right next to the Speyside steam railway station and ideal if you want to go into Aviemore for the afternoon. Lots of lovely walks to do and a warm welcome on return. Our room was large and had lovely bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower. We ate in the bar in the evening as we felt it had more atmosphere with its open fireplace there was a good buzz there. The other dinning room seemed empty in comparison. There is an inexpensive early evening menu 5-6.30 although we went for the a la carte which was a good bit more expensive. The food was good although we would have liked a few more vegtables on the plates although you could order separate sides, for the prices charged more vegtables on the plates would have made a difference.

A lovely, comfortable and warm hotel, we really enjoyed our 3-night stay. It is an older building so expect creaky floorboards and slow plumbing, it's just the way it is. Our room, right at the top of the hotel overlooking the steam railway station, was small but spotless and had tea/coffee, iron and hairdryer. The restaurant food is fantastic, everything from the bar food fish and chips to the venison, it is well presented, extremely tasty and not too expensive. Add in the open fire and it is a winner. Breakfast is first class, not buffet style, ordered just for you, from full Scottish to Arbroath smokies and poached egg. Would definitely go back.

The hotel was wonderful. The staff were friendly, the food was the best I've ever tasted. What can be better than sitting on a leather suite by a log fire at the end of a long day walking up the mountains. I would definitely recommend the hotel. Although the food was superb, a few budget meals on the menu would be nice for those on a tighter budget. We ate out twice during our stay as the younger members of our group could not afford the main meals.
