Score from 185 reviews Wonderful
Helpful polite staff Good food - selection & quality/value Excellent value package Free WiFi Great bike/hike shop next door Very comfortable bed Large rooms
Some decor a bit dated &but this added to the "old world" charm of the place! Shower not the most powerful but bath great.
Location & surroundings
Service, personal care from staff
Location. Staff. Food, which was excellent.
Accommodation needs some modernization. Furnishings and decor were a bit old and worn. Bathroom ventilation could be improved.
not a lot
My husband who is disabled had to climb 37 stairs as there were no lifts! My first and only dinner was Fish & Chips which was not cooked, told waitress that it was not cooked her comment was 'wasn't it' and walked away, therefore we did not have any more evening meals. Third breakfast I asked for boiled eggs but should have said cooked as when I took the top off it was absolutely cold and raw and had not even seen hot water, I called the Assistant Manager over and he was very apologetic and asked if I would like another breakfast my answer was 'no thank you as it has put me off my breakfast'. When we paid our bill on leaving we were asked if our stay had been OK obviously we said no and explained why, she gave us a refund of £20.00 and I asked her to make sure the complaint went through to the Manager, to date we have not heard a word from 'The Boat', needless to say we will not be returning but would still like to hear from them as this did ruin our holiday. It cost us a lot more to eat out of an evening not only food but fuel as The Boat Hotel is not near any decent restaurants. We would appreciate hearing from you and would add we would not return to the hotel. Regards Mr & Mrs C Roalfe
Garden room. Excellent furnishing.
Dining room staff muddled food orders a few times.
Location.Offer for B&B.
Slightly shambolic organisation. Excessively priced food and drink- cheapest wine almost £20! Wanted to charge extra for Earl Grey tea at breakfast! No native Scottish staff.
Very comfy bed
They don't offer an early breakfast option. When Checking out this hotel in the morning, the lady at the desk wasn't going to allow me to check out before a certain time... I had early commitments to make that morning. It was only 7.30am, so I just left the money for my room at the desk. I've never had this problem in a hotel before.
Very comfortable garden room, other areas in hotel require refurbishing which I think there are plans for. Lovely food, although a bit pricey.
Our only complaint was the staff service and communication issues when ordering food.
Good location. Pleasant hotel entrance and public rooms. Very friendly, helpful staff. Nice evening meal. Rooms were clean.
Our bedroom was very ' tired ' and in need of some serious up-dating. This also applied to our en-suite.
Bathroom could do with updating, but it was clean and adequate.
The staff especially restaurant manager
Staff were superb, cheerful and very attentive
Very old and tired, thread bare carpets, in need of a makeover
Had a lovely time food excellent, room excellent, and just very relaxing.
Staff, location, room, food all great thanks
Quality of accommodation, location, amount of choice at breakfast. We only stayed one night but wished I could have stayed longer. Got a good deal on a Sunday night stay.
there was wifi connection but it wasn't very stable there is a nice restaurant. Breakfast was great.
Toilet plumbing wasn't fully functional. way to room through a maze of steps, uncomfortable, especially with suitcases.
1. Location 2. Friendly and helpful staff 3. Price
1. Mattress was on a slight slope and not very comfortable
Lovely evening meal and helpful staff as my partner is gluten free
Saggy carpets in hallway Ripped curtain in room
The helpful staff and general cleanliness of the room. The food and especially the helpful receptionist who gave us lots of information on walks because we had our dog with us. Comfortable bed. Quick response to our problem cobwebs.
Lots of cobwebs all around the room roof. No sheets, as the quilt was very warm I was unable to sleep because of heat. Suggest spare sheet in room or blanket. Due to heat had to open our window and the noise from staff outside with radio and talking was very loud until about 11pmish.
Location was excellent, good airy room with wonderful views
Full English Breakfast wasn't up to standard
The Boat Hotel was a last-minute find on TripAdvisor. It had some great reviews so we took a chance. The location is great and was central to our sightseeing in this area. It is an historic hotel in a historic town/location. Food and service were good...albeit slow (reasons mentioned later). Would we reserve again? Probably but would probably check around TripAdvisor a bit to see if there were any other options we might want to try.
Two things detracted from our stay: buses and apparent age. We arrived about an hour before a German tour bus drove up. I was sitting outside watching the bus maneuver to park. I had an intuition that I should get two more beers for our table. Good thing I did. Service drew to a standstill as the bus passengers poured into the bar and front desk. Later, they filled the restaurant which slowed table seating, meal preparation, drink fulfillment and overall meal service to a crawl. We can't blame them for inviting buses into their hotel; we might do the same if we were hoteliers (it's a tough business). We are just pointing out what happened to us as casual leisure tourists. While our room was appointed nicely and rather quiet lending to good sleep, the hallways, stairways and general upstairs (where rooms are) area was missing attention and investment. Carpets were old, far beyond the look and feel of an elderly but well-cared for hotel. The housekeeper's cleaning bucket was there at the top of the stairs to greet us after checking in and heading to our room. And, a small but indicative item: our room was #10 but ours was the only room without a room number on the door. We looked and looked for 15mins to find our room with no success. We had to head to the front desk and the nice young lady had no idea either. By trial, error and some sleuthing, we all determined that we had reserved a suite which had the suite name (and not room number) on the door. Oh well, no big deal but indicative of small lapses in attention to detail. Oh, and wifi was non-existent upstairs and super slow downstairs.
We stayed two nights booked because they allowed dogs, had nice room and ate at hotel the two nights. Meals were good and served in bar area.
The fact the meals were served meals in bar area there wasn't area to chill after meal with a drink unless you sat in reception area. There was was two sofas in bar but wasn't comfortable sitting there while other residents were still eating.
