Score from 201 reviews Excellent
Position of hotel. Warmth and comfort.
Shower didn't work in our room and cooked breakfast was barely warm. Also for £120 the decoration and carpet in the room was showing it's age. The price of drinks in the bar we thought excessively high.
EXCELLENT LOCATION FOR EXPLORING THE CAIRNGORMS.VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL STAFF. NICE ROOM,COMFORTABLE BED AND VERY GOOD CHOICE OF BREAKFAST.
Staff and room
Well expected food to be a bit different but mediocre what i mean good food but expected a better menu.
The setting and the tranquility
The breakfast is the best we have ever had.
The alcoholic drinks were a little expensive
the bed, the food the location
the weather, the sitting area
Great restaurant, comfy bed very warm room
Price of the alcohol
Fantastic staff, good food, very comfortable rooms.
Staff all very welcoming and cheerful - even first thing in the morning! Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Big coal fire on in the reception area makes for a warming welcome on a cold November's day. Very competitive off-peak rates.
There really isn't much I would mark this hotel down on as it is mostly excellent all-round, but the one area that could be improved is the price of the drinks in the bar. I don't pay £4.50 for a pint of beer in Edinburgh - the capital of Scotland, so I am confused why it's so expensive here. It didn't impact on me a great deal to be fair, but it did stop me spending money in the bar during my stay.
Near two major attractions Staff all approachable Clean Large Bedroom Coffee,Tea and Chocolate in bedroom well catered for. Very Strong wifi Breakfast 5* Evening meals very good Good local Real Ale Price I got for this visit
Car Park very full Saturday Night. Real Ale a bit pricey Hotel a bit tired in places especially stair carpet to rooms a bit threadbare. Shower only mains pressure. Bar a bit quite on Saturday night.
Tranquil place to end a travel day
Work going on without excuse or apology Breakfast service was too slow for early attenders
the breakfast was good and the room was warm, nice staff
the hotel and rooms seem to be really nice in the photos advertised, but the hotel felt completely different somehow, it felt like it needs refurbishment.
Friendly attentive staff. Character & ambiance of Old style hotel. Warm comfortable room. Good location for day trips to the Whisky trail. We travelled with 2 25yo girls & they loved it! Yes, it's an old hotel & has some creaky boards, but that adds to the experience.
Minor plumbing noise from above room, but not enough to disturb you. Hand towel rack would be useful in the bathroom.
Garden rooms are a great size for families and nicely furnished. Milk & cookies for kids at bedtime was a lovely touch!
Location, Staff friendliness, Room facilities
Lovely hotel in nice quiet location. All staff very friendly and try their best.
Waited over an hour for main courses after waiting about 30 mins to give order. Then had to ask to at least send out the childrens meals which didn't come out until ours arrived. Eventually told that they didn't have any of what I had ordered and half of my wife's dish was missing. An absolute disaster, and still tried to charge us for a £2 lemonade when checking out!! Didn't go back for other two nights.
Thought that the room was very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. Staff were attentive and friendly.
The location was very quiet and we travelled into Aviemore for dinner and entertainment.
loved the bed the staff were very friendly and helpful . The food was first class and well worth the money. lovely quiet location. would go back again and would recommend as a stop over .The breakfast was superb . plenty of choice and staff were very fast and efficient
did not like the shower. needed updated but it served its purpose . The bath was wonderful .
Great village location with views from our 4 poster room across the steam train railway station to the hills beyond. Lovely walks on the doorstep with a glimpse of red squirrels. Excellent breakfast.
Some areas beginning to look a little tired. Receroration in progress during our stay which may address this
Friendly staff clean comfortable rooms location
problem with grapefruit at breakfast expensive evening meal and no other option parking - no signs and help with very small car park
A quiet, smart refurbished room. Friendly and helpful barman who served us a late nightcap.
We had written confirmation that we had a room with a private balcony, which we didn't have! The hotel blamed Booking.com for giving the wrong information . . . £120 per night, then an extra charge for an Earl Grey tea bag at breakfast!!
Area relaxed informality but efficient.
nothing to report
Excellent food and very efficient staff always with a smile.
Warm, welcoming and comfortable hotel. Lovely staff, excellent dinner. Great room overlooking the steam trains.
Cooked breakfast slightly soggy.
Extremely poor breakfast. Dated bedroom and bathroom. Won't be back.
