the potential of the property is immense!! such fab character, dining superb. the manager Nia was so accomodating, and the room sizes great. grounds stunning. although enjoyed the stay in the sense that staff were friendly. everything that was good about the property was also a disappointment. great character but needed work, rooms great sizes but tired and needed a serious facelift, grounds superb but hadn't seen a gardener in a long while. seriously overpriced for standard of hotel, the plaster on all the walls were blistered and peeling, things painted over but didn't hide the disaster underneath. The bathroom had no shower curtain and avacado suite, really? pity the owner/s didnt spend the money on the existing property before converting outside buildings, then used the profits they would have made from a superb hotel to do them after.

Very Quirky, but great! The Staff were fantastic, especially Nea! Could not do enough to help. The rooms are dated but all have character. The food was good. The shower was not easy to work!

I like the space in the room we stayed in , the bed was very comfortable and the heating was on in the bedroom all night which was great as it was very cold that night . The staff were very helpful and friendly . The location was beautiful . The road leading up to the hotel was full of pot holes .. The food was average nothing special ,not worth the money charged . I feel that although only 6 guests stayed that night and I think 3 staff working ,they worked very hard, but lots of things still needed to be done the laundry was everywhere outside our room , I thought our bathroom looked clean until I went into the shower and saw the empty shower gel left on the shelf ...

Liked the few staff we did see which we're the young over worked lads . Dan and Ryan who were doing 3 jobs at once running bar, reception, and serving food all at 1 go . Perfect gentlemen and did there very best to make you comfortable but they were run of there feet. Poor lads chef was amazing !! Outstanding food he also was doing 2 jobs at times cooking and serving brilliant cook !!! . The severe lack of management !! Young woman called Vicky who although seemed friendly was not at all interested I'n guest satisfaction and I suspect gets by with a smile and initially being very very friendly and chatty and then is no where !! To be seen and leaves young lads to do majority of work for her without regard but it takes more than gift of gab to be professional . All guests were left alone locked in hotel all night with no staff on sight !!! Disgusting !! In a hotel with no available phone signal to ring out should you need to. Hotel rooms were not clean enough hairs and dust galour in our room !! But not surprised as management non exsitant. Over priced wine that was assumed to be a gesture of good will as another guest was as management put it kicking off at time of arrival to which we got billed for as we checked out at a cost of £17.50 per bottle and we were given to as so say compensation for being put in our room due to guest being aggressive this we later discovered was so management could close bar and go home!! Again disgusting practice. Water supply in rooms was shocking Luke warm in bath and sink and had to run taps for ages before we got any joy. No information given to us on arrival of breakfast times or evening meal times over all a seriously bad experience. We will never go back not worth the money at all !! . Management disgusting!!!!

The staff were very friendly and helpful the hall was full of character. I feeel the hotel needs a little bit of tlc. The only other problem was there was no staff on the premises after all the guests had returned to the hotel for the night I only stayed for two nights and was locked out on my second night

Love the old world charm and the friendliness of the staff. It has stunning views, masses of bird life of every description from ducks, geese, pheasants and peacocks. A wonderfully welcoming roaring log fire. The food is excellent too. We liked everything!

Beautiful countryside setting. Fabulous 15th century building, with building- character well-maintained. Our deluxe room was lovely. The food was the best I've had at a hotel for years. The staff were A1,all but one Welsh speaking,a most important aspect for us 4 people. The grounds with wild ducks, pheasants and Canadian geese were so beautiful and interesting. The drive-way needs attention after the wet weather.

Location, BUT ! do not attempt to drive a car up the driveway to the Hotel.....Its not worth the repair bill!!!!! The drive way from the main road to the hotel is appalling, this alone would put me of visiting this hotel again, the pot-hole's are horrendous even for a 4 x 4.

The hotel is a historic and imposing manor house overlooking a lake and set amid extensive grounds. The two bedrooms we used were very large and comfortable, with large and modern bathrooms. Public rooms are baronial and well appointed. The set-price dinner was excellent: fine modern cooking by a talented chef. Service attentive but unobtrusive.

We have stayed in this hotel before and like the spacious rooms and the general quirkiness of the place. The grounds and the views are fantastic. We were very disappointed when we stayed for our wedding anniversary mid week. After dinner we walked down to the bench next to the lake as the weather was pleasant, when we returned at 10.15, we found the hotel deserted and locked up. There was no mobile phone signal and I didn't even have my car keys to sleep in my car. We proceeded to check all doors in the grounds and buildings hoping not to have to sleep outside. We eventually found a door to a cottage open and inside thank god was a ladder luckily our window was open so we made it back into our room after over an hour. When we told the person on reception as we checked out the next day, she apologised and said we should have been told to leave our room key with reception when we left the hotel, and as a good will gesture knocked off the charge for our drinks at dinner, a massive £6.50.

Charming old hotel with ivy growing up walls. There is a lake with ducks and geese, and also a friendly peacock. Beautiful countryside location. Huge bedroom with sofa and chair. Very quiet. Good food. Friendly staff. This hotel is a real hideaway. We stayed in the Leicester suite, and were told that our big room was one of the smallest! Watch out for the spooky suit of armor at the bottom of the stairs! Queen Elizabeth 1 slept here, but we didn't see any ghosts! All in all, we had a lovely 3 days, and would definitely go again. Would recommend to all. Super. Bathroom carpet could do with renewing. Watch out on the stairs, as they are uneven, and it is called a dueling staircase.

I stayed here because of booking.coms special offer, booked two nights but stayed three. The hotel is in a lovely spot with plenty in the area to see and do; or you can just relax and wander in the garden or sit by the duck pond. The restaurent provides gourmet meals with a changing menu each evening. Staff are lovely and rooms are very large. The hotel has recently changed hands and is in need of refurbishment, carpets and corners could do with a good clean, plumbing is old and plastic plants in pots need to go! Hopefully the new owner will make some significant physical changes. WiFi not available in rooms.

I chose Bodidris Hall as I was looking for a lovely historical hotel within a twenty minute drive of Llangollen as part of a birthday treat for my Mum..I Was taking her to the Welsh Music Festival held in Llangollen to see Alfie Boe for the other part. Bodidris Hall did not disappoint. On arrival a lovely young lady checked us in and offered to carry my Mum's bag upstairs for her. We were shown into the 'Elizabeth' room, so called because Queen Bess once graced it with her presence. A very large room, furnished appropriately with ancient and worn furniture, including a four poster bed, ensued. There was a seating area plus a window seat which` looked out onto the lake and magnificent grounds in front of the Hall. A couple of peacocks strutting around on the lawn outside completed the picture. I'd only just gotten over seeing the suit of armour downstairs in the hall way and negotiating the duelling staircase. Here I was transported back to Tudor times as I stood in this wonderful room, so positively drenched in history that that I felt drunk. We were very late back from the concert, my nerves were slightly frayed from negotiating hair pin bends in the pitch black and avoiding the odd sheep. I thought there would be no chance of a nice chilled glass of rose. Not so, the same lovely young lady said it would not be a problem and opened up the bar. We were able to plop down onto a comfy seat and drink in more than the wonderful, surroundings of the cosy lounge.. Upstairs the bed was very comfortable, breakfast next morning lovely and I wished I could stay longer. The staff here are friendly, helpful, polite and very welcoming and genuinely seem to enjoy taking care of you. As soon as I can think of a relevant excuse, I'll be back. Thank you Bodidris Hall, my Mum was thrilled to bits with her stay and I was enthralled. What's not to like, it's a Tudor Gem and as such does not disappoint.

The setting was beautiful, the property from the exterior was stunning. Staff were outstanding and the standard of food was very good indeed. The standard of cleanliness and quality of the room was shocking. We felt misled by the 8.6 rating the hotel was given and can only assume these weren't genuine reports. The curtains only covered half of the window, the room felt dirty and there was a wet patch on the carpeted floor. When we went for breakfast, there was suddenly a fast stream of water coming through the ceiling which missed my one year old son's head by a couple of inches, when we reported it we were advised that it would last only a couple of minutes whilst the person upstairs was having a shower and the staff weren't remotely bothered about it. The staff were, however, wonderful and friendly but had a difficult space to work in. I was shocked by the standard of accommodation for a 3 star. If they took as much care with the interior as they seem to have done with the grounds, it could be a wonderful space.

I wanted to stay somwhere with historic character and surroundings. All my expectations were met! It was like being in a historic storybook setting.
