This 2-star, family owned city centre hotel comprises a collection of 6 listed buildings around a courtyard setting.

Situated on Skeldergate, the ancient Roman waterfront leads from the city walls across the river to the historic city.

The convenient location, combined with the hotels scenic setting is ideal for exploring York and the surrounding area. The railway station and all major attractions are within easy walking distance.

A full range of facilities include a restaurant serving English cooking, a bar with lounge area and a health and fitness centre with counter current fitness pool (booking required), sauna and cardiovascular equipment (limited availability to children under 16 years old).

The hotel is an entirely non-smoking venue.

Use of Emperors Health and Fitness Centre, as well as use of the fitness facilities (both subject to availability) are free for guests.

Food & beverage

The restaurant is open for a continental buffet and served full English breakfast from 7.30am - 9.30am (Mon-Sat)8am - 10am (Sun). A continental breakfast tray can be arranged for times earlier than this. The restaurant is open for dinner from 6pm - 9pm each evening (occasionally times may vary), serving a four course dinner plus coffee for 17.95 per person. Our kitchen team produces tempting dishes based on local, national and international cuisine, the emphasis being the use of locally produced fresh food. All special diets can be catered for, but advance notice is appreciated to allow for the purchase of specific requirements.

The general ambience of the hotel was excellent being picteresque and tranquil. It was also very close to all the attractions of York. The staff were good and the food excellent.

The general hotel was in need of a good wash and brush up. The roms were badly soundproofed and in our room the toilet brush was a health hazard which we asked to be changed.

The location is superb - really central.

The plastic flowers everywhere gave it a dated and rather tacky feel - but apart from this, it was great,

It's proximity to the centre and the attractions. Food was excellent and
very reasonably priced.

Double bed was a bit on the small size. More wardrobe space would have
been good.

Hotel grounds very pleasant, only five minutes walk from the centre of York.

Food was good but the main course portions were unnecessarily large - food was wasted as we couldn't eat it all. Bathroom could benefit from refurbishing. Peaceful atmosphere in gardens spoiled by loud music from nearby gym.

Gardens and fish ponds,ease of access to city centre.

Booking 2 nights with external website and then requesting directly for a extra night and being charged an extra £15 for it, was disappointing.
