Walk from train station. Beautiful garden. rate includes breakfast. walk to historic sites and shops. York is a very old town with large sections of town walls still intact. closet space only sufficient. Very small tv |

Close to city centre, clean, comfortable, helpful and pleasant staff, and good value for money. Excellent breakfast. TV in room is out of date. A hotel of this quality should provide a modern digital TV, and I would prefer it sited about 3 feet lower for more comfortable viewing. |

Staff were excellent, well trained and polite. A well managed establishment. Public Areas are well maintained and breakfast service & food were very good. The room was a bid tired and bland and the bathroom although clean was in desperate need of refurbishment. As it was only a one night stay a complaint was not justified. |

Front desk, greeting, assistance throughout stay was excellent. Very slight muddle over who was responsible for waiting on particular tables. |

Comfort of the room was upgraded to a cottage due to an error, booked twin room on internet came back as double, rang hotel to advise needed twin, made a note however forgot to change the booking, the cottage was nice with a tv and living area |

Pleasant gardens The room was very small, facing the street, very noisy and hot. We had to lug our suitcases to the second floor, The front desk staff alternated between rude and incompetent, I had to go back three times till they gave me the right codes for the internet. They claim, it is not allowed to put in a lift, because it is a historic hotel, but at best it was some old industrial warehouse, so I don't see what tghe big deal would be. |

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The location was perfect. Ideal for a one or two night break! I was disappointed with the fact that conditioner was not provided in the rooms (shampoo and shower gel was) - every girl at least will want to use both shampoo and conditioner when they wash their hair! |

Location for city centre was perfect, everything was just a short walk away The hotel is in need of updating, could be a really nice place but just stuck in the 70's. |

Use of gym, particularly the keep fit pool Shower room floor wasn't clean (there was a small piece of tissue paper and a tiny gold heart that didn't move during my stay). |

Good location Very basic rooms for the price, poor quality English breakfast ingredients, ridiculous drink prices, expected much better quality for what we paid. |

Convenience in the city centre and with car parking. Attractive gardens and relaxed atmosphere. A bit unusual - feeling bit like a spa. Nice bar/restaurant area. We missed breakfast on our second day as we weren't told that breakfast ended at different times at the weekend and in the week. The breakast is very good so that was a disappointing start to the day. Having said that the staff tried to mustle us up with something to eat. |

The breakfast service was very fast and of good quility. The reception and dining room was very presentable. We had a double bed on the 2nd floor. the tv was basic and placed at high level in the room. You can hear nexts rooms telly which is off putting. |

Accommodation in Grade II Listed building. Gardens. Away from hustle and bustle but close enough to walk to centre. |
