Less than a mile from the historic center of York, this hotel, which was built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase.

Location, staff, quality of rooms. dining facilities, bar and reception area ...absolutely everything about this hotel is excellent. My room requirements added when booking were followed absolutely which is rare and staff really took care of my elderly parents. I highly recommend this hotel.
Our party had both standard and deluxe rooms. It's worth paying the extra for deluxe as room is much bigger and all fittings, bathroom, tv, etc are much better,
The location is ideal being so close to the city centre yet in a quite spot. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was great . My room was decorated in nice pastel colours and very relaxing.
lack of shelves in wardrobe.
Staff agreeing to reimburse the cost of my mothers room which was no longer required
Being on the ground floor with a window onto the street (which did not properly close).
We stayed here as we were going to the Barbican - it was only 10 min walk away and the centre of York only 5 min walk! Fab location and lovely place will deffo go again x
The dining room sorted out a lovely vegan breakfast for us.
The toilet flush was a bother - hardly a crisis though!
Location, friendly helpful staff, lovely bright room, very warm and comfortable.
Very disappointed about the swimming pool
Not a lot
Parking and location.
Handy location, fairly quiet.
Room dated/tired. Breakfast not prepared with love. Reception unmanned when we arrived.
Reception, restaurant and breakfast room all had pleasant atmosphere with willing smiling service. Room had adequate space and facilities, warm and clean.
Location I.e.short walk to centre.
Standard room very small, bathroom tiny and shower area had black mould on tiles.some staff o.k but others poor.same evening menu 2 days running although supposed to change , when asked , told soup of the day changes! Charging £10 daily to park in the grounds a bit much!
Relaxed atmosphere Friendly Ideal location Breakfast Real ale bar Good value
Paying to park
Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. Lovely hot shower with great water pressure large comfortable bed and everything needed on site
Small cups for tea and coffee in room
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The quality of the food in the restaurant was excellent.
The room was extremely hot! We turned all the radiators off but had to open the windows which meant that we had a bad nights sleep because of very loud traffic noise.
Location Room decor Garden view Quirky series of buildings
Carpet odd smell in my room Small pool facilities. Ok for kids Small shower
Friendly, helpful staff
Thick batter on haddock!
Very helpful staff Great location
Noisy at night
The friendly and highly competent staff The very comfortable bed and excellent bathroom facilities The quality and quantity of food in all the outlets -bar, breakfast room and dining room
Middletons has character, particularly because it is several historical buildings in one complex. The location is very quiet but walk to the end of the street and you're in the busy town.
Having to ask for toast at breakfast, which usually wasn't very warm. Having said that, at least breakfast is included in price rather than additional.
Location Availability of parking Quality of the food Qurikyness, definitely not a chain.
Room could have been bigger.
I stayed at the Middletons hotel with 2 friends to celebrate a birthday. We booked a Delux triple room which was very spacious. I could not fault the hotel at all, the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful at all times. My only issue with the room was that it was very hot, there were no radiators turned on but the heat at times was unbearable, especially through the night. We did open windows but this didn't really help. A fan in the room would have been nice! Overall the hotel was extremely good and I would stay there again.
Staff were friendly.
The water tank constantly dripping. We were on the top floor.
Good hotel, friendly and efficient staff.Room was clean and tidy and very comfortable. .
There was a wedding on the day we arrived and that took over the whole hotel for the first evening. We did not get a good first nights sleep but rest of stay was excellent. On leaving the hotel had reduced our bill to reflect the inconvenience. Full marks too for that. Breakfast was a bit limited.
The gym is fantastic and a great central location. Really liked this hotel.
The chef must have been having a bad night. Food came really late, was not cooked and I had to send it back! I suspect this was a one-off though. Wifi signal too weak to use.
A gem of a place to stay right in York. Quiet and smart, it has the feel of a grown-up boutique hotel. Staff were always smiling and very helpful.
