Formerly a Royal Navy Admiral’s home, this Edwardian building boasts spectacular views over Portland harbour and Lyme Bay. YHA Portland also provides a communal kitchen, a TV lounge and free parking.
Score from 30 reviews Very good
great views from the restaurant.
I was expecting some extra value from this room at £150 per night, the web site advertised fruit in the room, a turn down service was also promoted, either i had misread the deluxe room benefits or the hotel hadnt bothered. The chrome around the shower head and shower taps was also not clean, water and scale marks, as though it had not been cleaned.
The bar meals were excellent, and very good value. All staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable but nevertheless perhaps a little overpriced. A big car park and nearby excellent bus service made travel easy.
The room cleaner's visit could have been better timed - she was trying (and failing) to do it while we were at breakfast. We would have preferred that she had waited half an hour or so until we were out. The lift was very ineffective and I pity anyone who was dependent on it.
the position of the hotel it was clean and the staff were pleasant. the breakfast was great, will stop there again when looking to stay in weymouth
View. Position. Parking. Bar.
Bed too soft. Not much to dislike
Room furnishings in very good condition but all a bit 1980's
Location and views Food Ample parking
Lack of air conditioning to cope with high humidity - most evident in ground floor bedrooms. Tricky exit from car park
views and lovely breakfast
Nice bed, good range for breakfast, good location. Staff friendly and helpful.
Hotel dated would benefit from some updating.
The food was excellent & staff were very helpful.
The room was to dark,to much brown decor & the bed was uncomfortable.I found stains on my robe & at breakfast my husband went to use his napkin only to find it was covered in stains.I asked the waitress to change it which she did. This actually put us off our food.
Location and food of the restaurant was excellent. Watching the sunset on a nice warm evening. Walks on the cliffs lovely.
When I arrived the swimming pool was out of action which I found very disappointing.
Location ideal for exploring the island and dorset local transport perfect.
All round great place to stay with helpful friendly staff .The food in the bistro was exceptional.....
( going home )
Lofty location with great views of Chesil Bank and Weymouth.
Bedroom quite small and stuffy......had to leave patio door ajar at night to allow fresh air in.No window.
wi-fi. carpet need replacing in our room
The room lovely, comfy bed soft sheets, great food in restaurant helpfull staff very happy and knowledgeable easy parking great shower superb views as I remember from family photos of the past
Main road noise at night with windows open, not enough pastries at breaky Not enough gym equipment need more weights and cross trainers to be more modern No aircon in bedroom made it very hot.
The location was perfect. Amazing view. Pub food of a good standard
Wifi signal poor in rooms. Expensive for travel lodge standard rooms but the view makes up for it.
location, breakfast.fantastic views.staff were polite and friendly.
not a £120 a night hotel in my opinion.
The view from the bistro; sensible and intelligent staff; comfortable room
The bistro (note not a "restaurant") is geared to coach parties: menu and ambience are "popular" rather than "romantic" -- the groups get their drinks at the bar and then trail past you, drink in hand to their table
The staff were extremely helpful; the rooms were adequate and the breakfast was self service and extensive
There were no major problems we had with the hotel. A very minor comment would be the positioning of the toilet roll and holder in the bathroom. This was fixed the the wall behind ones right shoulder and on the adjacent right side wall making access difficult.
Not clean and to expensive.
Liked that breakfast was up to ten o'clock. Thought bar prices were quite reasonable. Comfortable bed and room size was good
No comfy chairs to sit in the bar by the TV. Also no sky sports. Drab dark wood everywhere. Didn't think the room was luxurious at all, apart from the bed and size of the room. The bathroom was very dated
Location View from the dining room Easy access to Weymouth - buses running every 10 minutes
Room was small but we did have a sea view this time
Comfy bed Free wifi Good bathroom facilities
Advertise pool but not usable very dated Corridors are cold and dated Dated decor View of car park Poor use of location
The food in the restaurant was very good and included locally sourced items. The room was very spacious and the bed enormous! obviously, the views from the restaurant were trully manificent even if it was a little too misty to produce a good sunset over Chesil beach.
Our biggest gripe was the absence of a lift for guests. After my wife struggled to climb the stairs, we were told that wecould use the lift to the restaurant and then go through one of the conference rooms, which luckily was not in use.
