Well-located in Cambridge city centre, Cambridge City Hotel is set amid historic colleges and excellent shopping. It has a restaurant, Irish pub, a gym and a sauna.
Score from 992 reviews Fabulous
Good location and great staff (very tolerant night porter!)
Very basic room
room was comfortable simple and warm with good bathroom
Friendly and helpful staff.
The Wifi is very slow, the whole place needs a make over, worn carpet, chipped paintwork, slow lift.
Restaurant food was good although not outstanding.
Breakfast was self-service. Faults with room not attended to, even after being notified. Tried to charge nearly double our contracted price for parking. Room small and cramped. Reception welcome was abysmal. Overall comfortable enough but would expect much better for the price. Have stayed in other Cambridge hotels and they are all overpriced - presumably demand exceeds supply and they can charge what they like
Hot water supply for bathroom
I was only there for a night, but the room was of a good size, the staff amiable, and the bed comfortable. I don't have any complaints.
Furniture State of the room poor cleanliness Noisy
Great location, easy walk from train station, and easy walk to town centre. Pleasant staff, comfortable bed, clean bathroom ( except curtains.) left luggage facility.
Lack of attention to detail- bedroom central light not working, dripping shower, stains on curtains by bathroom sink - all faults which should have been recognised by the house staff. Unfortunately, also overheard disgruntled staff member's dissatisfaction with internal issues in public area. Wifi slow. Overall, disappointing for the price paid.
Expensive for the quality of accommodation. Decor rather dated and in need of refurbishment.
Traditional friendly hotel near services, shops and tours Breakfast was extra and filling Room was spacious and clean
Generally for what your charged the furnishings carpets and shower could be improved
Helpful staff; near central location; good value.
Too hot (had to open window but that meant noise from busy road); shower head didn't give enough water flow; bathroom 'tired'; bed only fair; room fairly small. But to be expected at the price.
Central location near to Fitzwilliam Museum. Parking on site, although not clear from Booking.com that this was an additional £8 per day and also limited - we arrived just after 7pm and got the last space. Breakfast ok, but not value for money at £10 extra per person.
We had booked a twin room, but were given a basement flat - perhaps usually staff accommodation? It was grubby and a bit scary - we were two women and felt a bit spooked being so far away from the 'proper' hotel. Although the radiators were off, the room was tremendously hot and the window couldn't be opened (stuck shut or perhaps locked as was basement flat).
This hotel is not just tired, its exhausted; curtains didn't close, missing wall lightbulb and lampshade, sofa with worn through armrests (not just frayed, actually holed), worn-out mattress, missing bedside table, aincient plumbing, very dodgy plug socket… could go on.
Very enjoyable stay

Easy to get to. Easy to walk into town centre.
£8 to use the hotel car park, £13 for cooked breakfast and £102 for a double room in a very tired looking hotel in need of modernisation and refurbishment. Also don't like brushing my teeth looking at a dirty plug hole. Not good value for money.
Size of room Helpful staff, who tried to sort out issues quickly Good breakfast Very good location
Cleanliness of room - dirt on bedroom floor, bathroom floor Broken/faulty items - sink tap. shower fitting
the piece of plastic in my soup, the shabby decor of the executive suite and the failure of the hotel to notify that parking was down to a minimum of 9 cars and that there were full scale building going on with pile drivers, diggers etc. disabled access poor Poor value for money
Rooms very dated and overpriced
Buffet breakfast is a bit 'mere'.
Booked this hotel in central Cambridge with a request for reserved parking as indicated on their website. However the parking has shrunk and is a nightmare when staff and guests are trying to manoeuvre into the limited spaces now available
Location, almost next door to the Fitzwilliam Museum. Breakfast quite - but not very - good.
Run down character. In the first room the mattress was so soft you could feel the wooden slats. We moved to a better (Executive) one which was fine. Staff not friendly at first but improved markedly later when they realised our unhappiness justified. Restaurant seemed appalling with limited, boring choice. We avoided it when we heard others complain
Good place for 100th birthday party we attended, reason for being there.
Very noisy bedroom. During evening complained of loud motor or central heating pipe noise. Started worse at sleep time, complained again, staff member listened and said noisy radiator in function room under us to blame. More noise during night and again early morning. Reception staff when notified said would inform maintenance staff Hope to receive some sort of compensation for very disturbed night. Nothing heard yet!
Convenient central position.
Two fire alarms Poor organisation of fire alarm (No one appeared to be in charge) No apology offered when checking out. Would have expected some apology etc. Reduction in car park space makes future booking questionable.
