There was nothing pleasant about our stay in this hotel. From the moment we arrived at Reception, met by a member of staff who promptly advised that he is not able to book us in and we would have to wait for a member of staff who could, to us leaving - having to wait whilst yet another guest completed their complaint to the reception staff. Our first impression of the hotel was how dirty it was. Heavy, days old dust everywhere (lift, stairs and room). Coffee/Tea stains on the stairs (white painted at either side of the carpet) remained there from the Friday we checked in till we left on the Monday morning-(I have photographic evidence). The room we were allocated looked nothing like the photos on the web site and smelled of cigarette smoke-requested change, but told hotel was fully booked. The toilet leaked - reported to staff who couldn't fix it-who proceeded to mop it up with the bathroom towels-Urghhh unhygienic. Bath mats were then placed on the floor and remained for the duration of our stay to mop up the leak which was not fixed. The radiator also leaked in the bathroom-staff put a bucket under to catch the drip (remained the duration of our stay-we emptied it regularly- again I have photographic evidence). The wallpaper was ripped around the light fitting. In the hotel entrance there is a sign asking to cleanse your hands due to viruses known to be around with appropriate cleanser to use. Can you imagine my horror then at noticing the sugar bowls in the restaurant had obviously been stacked one on top of each other between services. There was sugar on the bottom of the bowl when I picked it up where it has deposited in the sugar of the bowl it was stacked within. Hands pick up bowls to get to the sugar-germs then transfer to the sugar in the bowl below. Also the eggs were undercooked at breakfast-raw egg white. Charge for the pool was too expensive. Given that I had paid £100 per night for the room I don't expect to have to pay to use the pool.

Checking out. Breakfast was well cooked and tasty although limited choice for a so called 4 star. Overpriced, shabby, dated, miserable decor, understaffed, uncomfortable bed, tatty bathroom, bad tv reception, no air-con and when window opened room rapidly filled with cigarette fumes from the public bar below. Breakfast was limited as nothing constituting a continental choice which in brochure stated you could take back to your room? Beverages were luke warm, weak tea or strong bitter coffee. Will be complaining to Brittania Hotels as this is the worst Hotel experience we have ever had.

The moment where we checked out....... This "Hotel" for want of a better description,is without a doubt the worst establishment I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. Within the first 3 minuites we were ready to leave, but our 5 year old was so distressed by the possibilty of not sleeping in the hotel (the 2 night stay was supposed to be our family holiday) that we stayed.Big mistake. Very little sleep was had by either myself or my wife,as until gone 2 am the adjoining bar/nightclub were throwing beer kegs around and dumping bottles into a bottlebank. Upon awakening the following morning I found myself covered in bites (bedbugs) Breakfast was the usual soldified fatty bacon, sausages that had been on offer since 1986 and fried eggs that wouldn't have been out of place in a Ninja's throwing star collection

the reception & bar staff were helpful & friendly We have stayed at the Scarisbrick many times over the last 25 years so to us it was very sad to see the decline in standards since the takeover by Brittania Breakfast & evening meals in the Knightsbridge resturant were something we used to look forward to with fresh food cooked for you along with choice of menu & pleasant staff Now its precooked plastic food kept warm for breakfast with a carvery every night with no choice of meat we went out every night for our food the staff whats left of them are still pleasant but appear unhappy with all the changes why spoil a nice hotel?

. Excellent location and good value for money. Service and facilities have deteriorated since the hotel came under new management. Use of leisure facilties for hotel guests should be free.

The staff were hardworking and helpful. The small pool was convenient [other than access for older people].The building has great potential and should be celebrated as a listed building. The noise from clubs and pubs prevented restful sleep and there was an overall shabbiness due to the layout of the hotel.I Would dissuade older people from staying at the hotel which is a shame as the potential is there for an excellent experience.

Central location , pleasant room , good car parking facilities . Previous vissits were perfect .Under new Brittania ownership the standards have greatly deteriated, dining room chaos , lack of staff , at breakfast flasks on tables stewed tea & coffee. Having booked through you on arrival , found no reservation on there system , on checking they found confirmation in filing cabinet . We were very lucky to get the last available room . Numerous complaints from other residents . very dissapointing .

The food was not up to standard,we ordered a dinner at £9.95 each this was over priced the serving plates were cold , including the food, which was left. The bedroom was clean but the decor was past its best, wit h tears in the wall paper, and an Army type over blanket on the bed .When we mentioned the state of the food the staff could not care less,

its location was ideal for a city stay in southport.breakfast on the 2nd morning was very good (unlike the disaster that was the 1st morning) ok well, the parking is a absolute nightmare, the shower was very hit and miss, the so called facilities (pool and gym)have to be paid for(not told about that on website).television reception was terrible, rather not have sky than it keep freezing all the time. The breakfast (service and food) was an absolute disaster on the 1st morning(redeemed by the 2nd mornings obvious staff change).in conclusion there is a lot of work and retraining for Britania to do here, but the foundations of a lovely city hotel are there to be worked on.I would go back just to see how they get on.

The breakfast although there were two Thermos flasks on the table one coffee and one tea, both which were disgusting and only warm. On entering the room Number (326) which was supposed to be a superior double which this certainly wasn't the bed was the most uncomfortable cheap bed I have ever had the misfortune to have slept in. The pillows to which there were only two and on close inspection there were 2 pillows put into 1 pillowcase , there was another in the wardrobe but this was another cheap and nasty pillow. We went into the bathroom to have a wash after travelling, only to find that the Hot tap in the sink when turned gave no water at all, the Cold tap in the bath was exactly the same as the sink no water at all. We reported this to reception that night. When you check into the hotel behind the reception desk, there is a tv screen which shows a very nice and elegant room, which ours did not resemble in the slightest. After what I would only call the worst night sleep we have had at any hotel we went for breakfast I was not impressed with the 2 Thermos flasks on the table which as I said before were disgusting and luke warm and were undrinkable so we had only juice. There was no marmalade at all even after asking. We spoke to two ladies in the elevator who said to us that they would never stay there again and , we have to agree with them.

Central to the town, convenient for shops and activities Looks tired- needs a revamp. On-site parking available but few spaces and difficult to access. Breakfast food very good but would have preferred fresh tea /coffee on arrival in dining room rather than drinks in vacuum flasks which had been sitting for however long and were barely warm and undrinkable

Local to where we where going for evening, room was comfortable and good for price and breakfast was lovely Three staff on reception just kept talking when I approached desk and I had to speak to get any attention. Not what I expect from a manned recetion desk. When leaving did not even ask if we enjoyed our stay. The posters advertising events in the hotel as soon as you walked in where of poor quality and removed from what was once know as one the best hotels in Southport to akin to a cheap bed and breakfast.

Good central location, friendly staff, hotels bar is one of the main bars in southport. The breakfast is absolutely terrible, towards the end of my stay I'd lost my will to eat it and decided very happily to pay for my breakfast every morning elsewhere. Teas and coffees were served from individual flasks on each table and were waiting for you before you arrived therefore often cold and stued. The hotel charges residents £4 per day to use pool and leisure facilities and even still very basic. I had spoken to several old dears who have stayed there for many years and they told me that they would not be returning due to all the negative changes in food and entertainment. The hotel farmed out its guests to a other hotel for evening meals.
