I had a lovely room which was recently decorated with a modern carpet and two lots of double glazed windows which shut out the noise. It was very clean. I liked the spa, it was a nice warm pool. I think this hotel was in a good central location and was very good value

I didn't like the reception area, it felt very dated and scruffy. I didn't like the strong smell of beer from the bar next to the entrance to the spa and there was always drunks in that area.

Good basic cheap room with decent shower.

We have visited this hotel many times,it was excellent but now it is very shabby.Reception is tatty and the we had to pay to swim in a dark and gloomy pool as residents.

It was central and not too expensive. The bathroom was newish and reasonably appointed.

Insolent staff on reception one of whom refused to move their own car from the very small unloading area in front of the hotel, very little parking, a measly 50p charge on using a debit card (not apparent when booked on booking .com website), we had to prove that we had booked bed and breakfast not room only as per their booking system, the room was dark with a cheap uncomfortable bed, we had to ask for towels - only one in the room.

Unhelpful reception staff Disco noise A single room with a makeshift double bed.No chair and standing room only. No windows in lounge areas No in-house restaurant. Bar needs the services of Dynarod. Summary: most unwelcoming. Never again.

The staff were all very nice and the hotel is in a great location.

Rooms were quite dated and not that clean. Could do with a good renovation. Overall we were quite disappointed.

4 poster bed! Jacuzzi very nice!

Nice big old quaint victorian type hotel. Spacious internal areas and lots of places to relax inside the building.

Shower could have been warmer, though to be fair I was up at 6:30.

This hotel has clearly seen better days. It's faded but without much grandeur. That said, my room was spotless, it was comfortable, quiet and there was everything you need - tea and coffee making facilities in the room, extra pillows, decent soaps and shower gels etc. I paid an amazing £20 for a night without breakfast mid week. Book breakfast online as it's more expensive booking on the day. The location is amazing, right in the middle of town and five minutes walk from the station. I also checked out the fitness centre and pool, and both were well equipped if a little rough and ready. The Irish pub underneath is a Southport legend and I imagine it can get lively, so ask for a room away from the noise if it's likely to bother you. Otherwise, why not join in?Don't be put off by the foyer, which also features the entrance to the pub, the rooms upstairs are much nicer. Basically, if you want a cheap, cheerful and comfortable place to stay and you're not too bothered about frills, this is fine. If this is your big annual holiday and you're after something fancy, steer clear.

The room was really pleasant and clean. There was an iron and board, hairdryer and plug-in fan in the room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Had a good choice for breakfast.

Found it quite noisy at night due to its central location which I did expect, but the rooms do have extra glazing which does help. I didn't realise there was a charge to use the pool/spa.

The hotel was situated in a good position for the town.

Room was dirty, in desperate need of decorating.The bathroom had towels in with one of the hand towels being dirty. En suite has shower over bath and was directly under a large window with clear glass in. The window had no blind to the window and had a building opposite. I was therefore reluctant to shower. When this was pointed out to the reception staff they couldn't understand what the problem was. I booked this hotel as it had a swimming pool but in view of the standard of cleanliness of the hotel we decided not to go in. Breakfast was appalling with extremely fatty over cooked bacon, toast which had been done a long time before.

our room was over looking two night clubs which didn't stop until 4am. Also the door lock wouldn't work. so every time we left the room we couldn't get back in.

Hotel was convenient for the Southport theatre and floral hall

Didn't like the room location it was very hot and stuffy couldn't have the Windows open as the noise from the night clubs below and across the way we're so noisy. Our room no was 211, if we was staying anymore nights we could not have coped with that noise

the food was very good and hot no complaints at all

we were on the first floor overlooking the 2 night spots which was very noisy right up till 4 in the morning unable to sleep due to the outside noise from the smokers.

Position

You felt like you were stoppng in a night club not a hotel. Staff told you nothing about the hotel. Had no idea where the pool etc was couldn't find it? Parking a nightmare surely you cant say you have parking when there are about 10 spaces max and over 100 rooms? Kettle didn't work heating didnt work. You were told to run the tap for 20 mins to get hot water?

Porridge at breakfast. Comfortable bed.

Had to swap rooms because the room booked smelled of smoking. Difficult to get hot water. Poor heating. Noise from Disco.

Reception staff where poor and unhelpful. Noise until 4am from the in- hotel disco. £2 surcharge for using a debit or credit card. Payment on arrival not departure. Overall poor staff attitude.

The tv did not have proper freeview and did not have hdmi input so i was unable to connect my ps3 to watch movies also could not leave windows open at night for fresh air due to the noise from nearby clubs
