The Barns Hotel is situated in a beautiful riverside location, within 3.5 acres of landscaped gardens, yet just 10 miles from highway M1 and 8 miles route A1. The tranquil setting offers views of the great Ouse River and the local country park and wonderful grounds in which to walk and relax. For more strenuous activities, guests have access to the local Oasis Fitness and Leisure Club. Samuel Whitbread, founder of the brewing business, was born in the main house in 1720 and it remained within the Whitbread family until 1890s, becoming a hotel in 1987. staff went out of there way on arrival and were very friendly with my 8 year old daughter. we had booked a twin room but were shown to a double room which i did not mind at all but the member of staff advised me to take the twin room as originally booked as the bed is so much bigger! nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome. Also we were late getting up the next day and only just made it for breakfast with barely 2 minutes to spare and again nothing was too much trouble the waitresses/dining room staff were very obliging. during the evening before i felt that the lady serving behind the bar was not particularly friendly or helpful.

Very good room. Quiet, clean and everything worked. We had Sunday lunch in the restaurant and it was excellent. Staff were friendly and professional. This was our 2nd visit and we will definitely stay here again

Friendly and efficient staff, very welcoming on arrival. I only have a few not so good comments, on arrival there was only one pack of biscuits, one normal tea and one normal coffee - we phoned reception and this was soon rectified. The sink in the bathroom, when the tap was turned on the flow of water was intermittent and sometimes splashed over the edge of the bowl. The shower knob came off (there was a screw missing), the drainage was a little slow during the shower, you could paddle a little. There was a dirty pillow case on the floor when we first entered the room. The surfaces were quite dusty around the tray where the kettle and cups were and the surfaces in the bathroom. The room was very cold on arrival, heating didn't come on till after 5pm. The last pat test on the hairdryer was 07/09 - not very reassuring. There was a leaflet in the room offering free Pimms/coffee a the Riverside Pub restaurant but the deal had expired Sept 2011.

We stayed at the hotel for a wedding reception. The room was very clean and comfortable. Our only small critisim was that my husband ordered a fried egg with his cooked english which were cooked freshly(very good ) but was not told this would take some time and had finished before it arrived so did not want it. Otherwise a very good hotel.

After a long drive it was great to arrive to a friendly warm welcome and a comfortable room. I had checked the location on google earth because I like to walk and the surroundings were ideal, close to the river and a park, however I arrived late so didn't get my walk this time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, dinner was good, the room was clean and the situation next to the river is lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really nice too, although I would have preferred brown toast with my poached egg.

It was a lovely, clean room with friendly staff. I was able to check in before stipulated time. But was out all day so dud not really use the hotel at all except to sleep. Did not use any facilities. My only complaint and really a very important point for me. The pillows were absoluely terrible. The only thing I stayed for was to sleep as I was out all day and the one thing I didn't get to do comfortably was sleep! Very disappointing. Bed was firm and comfortable but pillows felt 50 years old! Hard and lumpy! It was very late at that point to complain!

Staff and service was very good. Although we didn't eat at the hotel the menu looked good. Room was nice and clean. The double bed was 2 singles together which I wouldn't expect as it's not a budget hotel.

Great setting for the wedding, I did like the river such a beautiful setting. The beds are so comfortable, rooms are spacious and bathrooms are clean, lovely shower!. Never saw any mess left around, staff always clearing up and helping out. Excellent hotel. Mosquito's especially at night.

Very nice hotel situated in calm and peaceful surroundings on the banks of a picturesque stretch of river. Nice size room which was very well equiped + good quality bedding and towels. Plenty of parking and very pleasant outside space. We dined at the hotel in the evening - food good with varied menu and first rate service. Huge choice at breakfast, everything you could think of! Staff extremely helpful and polite. Would definately book again
