Large rooms, clean and well appointed
The floors creek and are very thin meaning you can hear voices from the people above as well as them walking across the floor.
The large clean bedrooms
Food stops at 9pm
All aspects of the hotel and its staff were excellent. Clean, comfortable and smart rooms and extremely attentive staff. I strongly recommend.
Staff, food,room, bed
Stay too short
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Buildings were wonderful, food was great
The fit out of the rooms was corporate and dull but the great hall was bizarre - what persuaded the designer to furnish a great space like this with cast off furniture from a brothel catering for extra tall clients? Also having a fire in the grate was a good touch but be generous - a few logs wouldn't go astray !
The room was beautiful, facilities were good and we had a wonderful stay! We will definitely be returning soon.
Fantastic location, lovely place to stay and lovely furniture.
Great for entertaining clients
We had a lovely couple of days relaxing at this hotel. reception staff very helpful and restaurant staff were excellent food superb and very good value for a four star hotel
Bed was good size but duvet too small for it.
castle with old and new features. Menu has so much choice literally couldnt decide, specials every night. Excellent food. Our room had a four poster bed with chocolates on and a free standing bath under a stone fore place. truly stunning.
no gym or spa.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Food was delicious, especially the breakfast, with an overwhelming choice of buffet food plus a choice from the menu of eggs benedict, eggs florentine, full english etc. Bed was very comfortable. The room was large, clean, warm. Wetroom was large, and warm, good shower.
The view from our room wasn't that good (the back of the hotel)
Food, staff, service and hot tub excellent.
No lighting in courtyard walking back to room in the evening. Room not warm with radiator so requested extra heater to use.
Short drive from Plymouth. Quick check in. Everything there for quick unexpected overnight stop. Staff not too chatty let you get on.
No vanity mirror for women. Walk from car park to front door unlit. Light from corridor came through to room from under door
The room, facilities and food, although the portions were a little small.
This time nothing but avoid weekends when there is a wedding.
Beautiful Setting. Fabulous Building. Comfortable Rooms. Great Food. Open Fire. Good Base for cycling up onto Dartmoor.
The open fire wasn't big and roaring enough. Shame there wasn't a separate bar for the wedding being held. We were relaxing in the bar by the fire after cycling (in our Lycra!) and we were joined by the wedding party and guests after the service. Can't have been ideal for them.
Absolutely wonderful. Atmospheric, historic, extremely comfortable, excellent staff, great restaurant.
cut toe in spa due to breakage of a jet sprayer
Everything was great, can not fault
A truely magical place to stay if you want to transport yourself back in time. The Hall is magnificent and certainly has the wow factor when you first arrive. The staff were lovely and our courtyard rooms were roomy and quiet. The setting and views are wonderful and we would recommend you stay here if you like to be out in the countryside.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The building is beautiful.
The room was not cleaned until we requested it. When we sat in the bar area I asked for a pot of tea and it was made with warm not boiling water and on the second day we waited approx. half an hour for breakfast to be served after ordering.
Jools Holland and too much bubbly in the Great Hall made for an epic night - great room, spacious.
Should have stayed longer!
The hot tub was amazing even when it was -5 outside
