Borough Arms Hotel  

The staff on all levels were friendly, helpfull and courteus without being pretentious from the moment of our arrival and throughout our three day stay Our accomodation was in the annexe to the rear of the main building. From the advertised pictures of the rooms that we had seen , the rooms within the main building appear to be of better quality.That said, the Room was adequate, comfortable, and reasonably clean, and as we had booked at short notice were were content with what we were given. We had booked a smoking room but on arrival found no ashtrays available.When we enquired at reception we were informed that we were in a non smoking room and was willingly offered an alternative,but as we had already unpacked and the fact that we could smoke under cover immediately outside the room we decidied that it wasnt an issue worth creating an inconvenience for ourselves or the hotel staff. We opted for the inclusive breakfast which we found to be more than adequate with a complete selection from full english, fruits,yoghurts and cereals.The food itself was very tasty and great value for money. Apart from dining in the restaurant there was an offer of two mains for £10 from a small selection available in the bar. Our personal options in fairness were not of sizable portions but were again very tasty and decent food. The hotel itself is located within 10 minutes walk of adequate transport and shopping facilities, and a lively nightlife of assorted bars, clubs, restaurants and cafes which all come under a police enforced no tolerence zone. If you are looking for 5 star and silver service then this place is not for you. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable and adequate accomdation with decent food in a relaxed freindly atmosphere, good local facilities and all a reasonable price, then our opinion from our own personal experience is that you wont go far wrong here. We would recomend the Borough Arms and would deffinately stay here again.

It was handy to all the venues I was visiting, shopping was just a few minutes away by car, meals are available at either the on-site restaurant or pub, but most importantly, the staff were very friendly and helpful and met all of my needs.

First time at the hotel, staff very friendly, breakfast excellent, will definitely recommend and stay there again when in area.

The food was excellent and the staff very polite and helpful.

Wish I had paid for a bigger bed. Liked the fact we had a vry large bath but would of prefered a shower head that I could dettach.

Location close to Newcastle

Very noisy function on until early hours and got woken on numerous occasions later on as well but think we were just unlucky

It has parking and is relatively close to Alton towers.

The staff did not seem to want to help at all and were on the verge of being rude. The first room stank of smoke so we were moved to another room. We had never been to the area before but didn't want to ask the staff about it as it felt as if talking to them would be putting them out. I would not recommend this hotel.

Staff were excellent and the food was very good

The room was to warm and when I opened the window the noise from the traffic was to loud

Staff very helpful and friendly on reception and in the restaurant at breakfast.

No lounge area for guests except the bar - which isn't ideal for everyone. A number of items on the bar food menu were not available and service in that respect was a bit hit and miss.

Exactly what I was looking for - location and transport accessability were excelent for my needs. It is good to take a shower and go to bed, but the rooms are nto the ones you would like to stay in for the whole day - if this is not what you want to do, this hotel will suit you perfectly.

as in above - I would have been very put down If I were to stay inside for few days w/o coming out. but since it was not the case - the only poor thing I can mention is internet availability - WiFI only works properly from inside the Hotel's bar, otherwise everythiong was ok.
