Scafell Hotel in Borrowdale is surrounded by mountains and peaceful meadows. Overlooking the river, the Riverside Bar has a cosy fireplace and each bedroom has a digital LCD TV.
Score from 228 reviews Very good
Originally a coaching inn dating back to 1770, the Best Western Plus Castle Inn is now a modern venue with views of Bassenthwaite Lake.
Score from 178 reviews Fabulous
This 18th-century coaching inn is perched on a hill overlooking Ullswater, the second largest lake in the Lake District National Park. It offers free Wi-Fi and free parking on site.

With beautiful views of the Northern Fells, Ravenstone Lodge is 5 miles from Keswick, at the foot of Ullock Pike so you can relax in the conservatory or on the terrace and enjoy some of the best Lake...
Score from 273 reviews Superb
I have often walked past this hotel in my forty years of visiting The Lakes as it is just opposite a walking path to many routes. Preferred to stay in the centre of Keswick before though. Never again. This hotel is great, beautifully situated, excellent friendly staff and little touches that bring a smile to your face. As a vegetarian I would particularly recommend it, the Head Chef has created a good range of tasty dishes to enjoy.
Lovely friendly hotel off of the Beaton track but views were spectacular. One of the best breakfasts we have ever had. Evening menu excellent although a little pricey so check before you buy. We certainly would go back again
No pool and as it was quite wet we would have liked to have spent some time lazing in one. However, we knew it did not have one so that was our choice. This is the only thing it would have been nice to have
The lack of "extras" eg spa, swimmimg pool. The food The service. Every member of the staff was a credit to the hotel.
Location , restaurent and staff
Room we stayed ( mandarin) made the family feel claustrophobic .Avoid this room at any cost.I am pretty sure views are better on the other side.the only view we had was the car park, which is a shame.
Location, staff, food
Food location wine selection friendly staff
Maybe too much smoked bacon !
Great location, if you like walks amidst scenic splendour. Keswick nearby is a convenient town for restsurants and cafés. You aren't far from Wordsworth country, which I was interested in. And yes, the hotel has an excellent chef who turns up such high quality meals that seated in the airy dining area surrounded by bird-filled gardens, you could almost believe in paradise!
Rooms have thin walls which can be a problem with noise pollution.
Relaxing atmosphere excellent customer interface immaculate presentation superb food
The beautiful surroundings, the tranquility and the excellent food.
There was nothing to dislike
Location. Polite staff. Great food and graciously served. Ambience. Lovely coffee served in lounge, with peaceful outlook.
Good service , excellent lounge and dining area good food
Many extensions to hotel but still worth a visit
The location, the views, the harpist in the bar/dining room, the excellent food, friendly staff
room was spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Loved the large bathroom. Our own door to the grounds was great with our dogs.
The staff were incredible - friendly and helpful. Food was amazing! The lounge and views were fantastic. An amazing place to relax and be well looked after.
This was my 4th stay, 2nd this Summer. I booked a single and was allocated a double with a great view over Derwent water and Walla Crag. The panoramic view from the dining room is magnificent-all the tables in the dining room benefit from this view. The food is 1st rate with a daily specials menus as well as the fixed menu". Crab salad and brill were particularly good.WiFi throughout the hotel. Staff are attentive and efficient.
There are no discernable faults!
The location was ideal for walking. The three course dinners were of excellent quality and value for money. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and good service all round.
peaceful, good location for walking, great staff
expensive for what you get, would be good to have a bar snacks option rather than a three course meal every night, nowhere to put your toiletries in the bathroom
The staff are excellent -- some local, some from elsewhere in the EU. The hotel is conveniently located for exploration in the NW sector of the Lake District, including Derwent Water, Buttermere and Crummock Water. Breakfast was generous and varied, wi-fi worked well, and the TV had plenty of stations.
Location , food. All very good quality.
Value for money was poor. I paid £190 a night for a deluxe room, but have stayed in many places where the room has been better and the cost much lower. Not overly impressed. Can only think other reviewers have an unlimited budget.
Everything:the rooms, the friendly staff, the food, the location. Perfect place!
Nothing to dislike
cant think of a thing
The location is absolutely stunning
There were lots of the "we come here every year" types. Felt a bit like we'd gate crashed a private party.
