the hotel's situation in "the jaws of Borrowdale". The spendid views from the lounge and dining room The peace and quiet and the excellent service The newly furnished bedroom was most pleasant; airy and comfortable. All staff were very pleasant and helpful

Sunday dinner was slightly disappointing. The menu was the same for lunch or dinner with no specials available as on other nights. I would suggest they opt for lunch time for their main meal of the day.with a limited evening menu.

Staff unobtrusive but efficient. Room lovely. Food excellent.

Not clear that bar food could be obtained in the evening to residents.

Everything! Particularly the location, helpfulness of the staff and the quality of the food.

The food was excellent.The room was spacious and attractive.The ambiance is relaxng and welcoming with comfortable lounge areas and a lovely restaurant.The staff are helpful and friendly. We chose to extend our stay by three nights as we were enjoying our stay so much.The hotel is well-placed for walking in the Borrowdale valley.

the staff were quite exceptionally helpful and friendly and efficient. The location is wonderful with views up and down Borrowdale and the wild life - birds and squirrels, encouraged by the staff feeding them - provided endless interest and amusement.

Great rooms and service, excellent views, superb food both breakfast and evening meals. Close to Keswick/Derwentwater. This hotel also has the best staff I have ever encountered in a Hotel anywhere!

Beaufiful location, friendly and attentive staff, rooms finished to a high standard. Very good catering.

Limited (no) choice of dinner menu (3 course dinner at £39.50 with no alternative "light" offering). Having said this dinner was excellent but 3 or 4 nights in a row would be too much. We had a lovely room in the new wing but the walls were very thin which ment that you got to know your nieghbours a little too well.

We were extremely well looked after from booking in to our departure. All the staff were eager to help and very polite, nothing was too much trouble! Our room was very luxurious and welcoming and we settled in straight away, comfortable bed and lovely shower/wet room. The view from our patio doors was breathtaking and peaceful. It was interesting to watch the birds feeding out of the huge dining room windows as we had our breakfast. The food was delicious too. We had a fabulous few days at the Borrowdale Gates Hotel, it was our first visit but hopefully not our last!

It was a lovely hotel. I do not like wet rooms and should have stipulated this on our reservation, otherwise I could find nothing to fuss about

A stunning location-Wainwright's prettiest square mile in England from my bedroom window. Panoramic view from the bright and airy dining room. Restaurant food was top quality;staff service was exemplary: very spacious and well appointed room with balcony. My new favorite Lakeland hotel.

Excellent location, beautiful view from the room, excellent breakfast, decent service.

The hotel staff were 'too trained' to consistently ask, almost on auto pilot, after their guests' well-being. More genuine and friendly communication would be more appreciated and altogether more human. The dining on offer was far too restrictive. The evening meal was three courses or nothing, and at £80 for two it was both too much sometimes and too expensive. They should offer a much more flexible choice of evening food from light snacks to single courses. They shouldn't seem so desperate to meet their earnings requirements.

Excellent location for walks. Very attentive staff. Deluxe room has a balcony with a lovely view of the valley, hills & contryside around. Modern & stylish. Breakfast has plenty of choices to suit all taste. Hotel tempted us with special offer to stay an extra night.

Evening dinners & wines rather expensive however, very good local produce, choice & quality.
