Such friendly helpful staff. Beautiful place. Excellent facilities. Tasty breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.
Nothing at all. Faultless.
The young waitress at breakfast
It was my birthday treat. My husband and I chose this hotel for its leisure complex and much promoted restaurant!! We thought as we only had 24 hours we would relax in hotel using spa facilities. OMG the gym was a joke!! 4 prices of antiquated equipment! We then asked to see dinner menu and were told that restaurant was not open. It opened as and when!! This should be stated on website. We did not find staff particularly helpful, everything was to much effort. Our premier room with sea views was dated and tired. Seaview was minimal, through tired net curtains!! Sorely disappointed and would never return!
We had to change rooms as found the first to be unclean with no soap, rusty and wet furnishings, very dusty net curtains and extremely warm room and very dark in decor. In the second room there was no soap, no floor mat. The breakfast menu stated Choco pain though they never appeared at any of the 3 breakfasts we attended. The plastic bottom of shower was not fixed and allowed water to run on floor, after every shower saturated the floor and making it a hazard. Light fitting in bathroom had rust at the bottom of it. There was no plaster board covering a gap where water pipes were. Games room was out of bounds due to a flood. The steam room was out of bounds as a sign stated it not covered by insurance. There was no blanket or extra pillow on room though it was stated that it would be found in room. We had to ask for floor mats for bathroom and they were only supplied on one day after asking for them. We would of liked to have gone in the indoor pool and spa but didn't look to appealing to me and my other half so we gave that a miss, The hotel falsely advertised the use of a games room and steam room which were not accessible after stating some of our complaints we were offered to stay again free of charge but I cannot see us going back there ever.
I am currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumour and my husband and I wanted to go away somewhere that didn't involve hospitals, doctors, clinics or chemotherapy. Not being allowed to fly, we chose the Isle of Wight as I have happy childhood memories of holidays there. We found the hotel online and booked after reading the excellent reviews. We weren't disappointed - the hotel and staff were all happy and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. Our room was spacious and we were never disturbed by noise from other guests. We had a wonderful time, it did us both the world of good to get away!
The staff at Bourne hall were all very helpful and friendly throughout out stay in the hotel! We enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you
The only thing we didn't like was the hissing toilet in the room and squeaking bed other than this our stay was fantastic
The building & the facilities
The hotel was essentially tired with a culture to repair the decor rather than redecorate, not just the odd bit but throughout the hotel
Peaceful location. Breakfast staff were lovely.
No evening meals available during our stay. No bar staff on hand. Told to go away as we were too early to check in, an offer of a cup of tea/sandwich would have been nice after a long journey. Shabby gardens, cigarette butts, weeds.
The jacuzzi, although this was situated in the grounds in a separate building, which also contained various pieces of redundant gym equipment. The water was pleasantly warm, and it was free to use. Same for the swimming pool in the same location, although it did have a resident frog.Tne breakfasts were fresh and consistently good.Breakfast-room staff were very polite, cheerful and efficient. Reception staff welcoming.
This is really a grand-looking B&B, not a hotel as advertised. The restaurant is not open in the evening unless a meal is pre-ordered from a limited bar menu. The "bar" has only Guinness on draught, everything else is in 440 ml cans at bar prices (£3.50-ish).The entire building and grounds are in need of some TLC. Our sea-view room should be described as sea-facing, as most of the view is obliterated by trees.TV's are quite small (flat) screen.Overall, not what one would expect on the mainland at these prices. Wouldn't go back..
The Staff were brilliant. The Location was great. The beds were very comfortable. Nice and clean. Breakfast very good.
Creaking floorboards so quite noisy from above. Reception desk not always available.
Food excellent Staff all very helpful just very nice people A nice car park and safe A first class hotel all round apart from the hills.
Would have liked the town just a bit closer, My wife and I are over 70 so we didn't like the hills very much but that wouldn't stop us coming to your hotel again.
The location the pools the restfulness Ideal to unwind from our busy lives.
Nothing that's why it was our second visit.
Warm & welcoming staff
Creaking floor boards
The surroundings and building were beautiful. Liked the idea of having swimming pool etc. Also having a bar. Breakfast was delicious considering chef was back and forth to bestival haha! The staff were fantastic and very friendly, only had couple of breakfast time issues but not with the food. Not sure it's enough for me to return.
Didn't like the hill walk everyday, was a little too far from the village. Thought the hotel could do with a little up keep, the place a bit shabby but not chic. Facilities were Ok pool, jacuzzi worked but steam and sauna weren't on, gym equipment were pointless... Dated! Had an issue with breakfast one day, didn't like the fact waitress had our cooked food in hand but stopped to have conversation with other guests, so fairly cool when reached us. Not enough plug sockets in the room, pretty unorganised had move things around just to plug kettle in! Freeview signal was terrible too, sorry! Didn't think it was worth the amount of money, for condition of place.
The breakfast was lovely along with the only bit of service we received. Location was ok as it was only a short walk to Old Shanklin village which was lovely but the walk back up the steep hill was a killer! the Hotel itself is very quaint and overall reasonably clean. Room was clean, bathroom not so good, cobweb by the bath and was let down by rusty bath toiletry holder. I didn't use the indoor pool but my other half loved it along with the Jacuzzi.
Their was never anyone on reception to be found..the bar was useless, practically no selection of anything and only draft on tap was Guinness! again it was hard finding someone to serve you so we only had a drink in the bar the once. Kept waiting for Basil Fawlty to jump out on us! It was very noisy when trying to get to sleep as floorboards everywhere seem to be very creeky and thin. So what was probably just people arriving back to their rooms, actually sounded like several herds of elephants having a party! which seemed to go on forever! Generally the Hotel is looking very tired and could do with a bit of an uplift. Poor value for money and not what we expected. Wouldn't go back there but would visit Old Shankin again but stay at a different Hotel!
Public rooms were clean and comfortable, the breakfasts were excellent
the bedroom was dusty with cobwebs, the mattress was worn down and because the room was so small a huge fan was put in because it got so hot. it does need a refurb
Brilliant time was had by everyone as it was first time for my mum who was visiting us from Delhi.location of the hotel was brilliant walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants. Service by all members of hotel was excellent though booking.com messed our booking, staff made every effort to ensure all our needs were met. Rooms were sorted out though took time but it all ended well, how we wanted. Thanks to hotel staff. Oh, breakfast was delicious and gave good start to the day.preference of all guest was taken in account for their choice of cooked hot breakfast.
Booking. com, will contact the hotel direct when visiting next time.
The setting and friendliness
Room to small for amount paid and could do with a up date
Nice comfortable room Friendly staff Warm and cosy common areas Peaceful location but close walk to main high street
Reception shuttered off before 8am and after 10pm Poor breakfast experience: cheap quality ingredients, guests need to make a dozen trips from table to collect basics: coffee/tea, milk, jam/butter, make toast Cheap nasty toilet paper in rooms ensuite No dining / evening menu (neither in room nor advertised anywhere): Isle of Wight 2014 Guide promotes the Bourne Hall dining experience. It doesn't exist. Extra charges to use a bathrobe (as if £140 a night isn't enough) No newspapers (anywhere)
The spa area was very tired looking along with the bathroom plus the extractor fan in the bathroom was very noisy.
The staff and location of the hotel were excellent.
The rooms were extremely expensive for the standard of decor and furniture provided. We paid £190 per night for a family room and were expecting a room that was much higher grade, what a shame. It was the only complaint we had about the hotel, if they revamped their rooms we would have happily recommended them but cannot as the rooms were not value for money. Not sure if our room was a particularly old room, the website certainly showed much nicer rooms.
Swimming pools were great, staff very friendly and helpful
Hotel needs bit of a facelift, family room very small, bit of a climb up steep hill to hotel can be a struggle.
Indoor swimming pool
Outdoor swimming pool not heated. No games room. Kids 8 and above are welcome, but few facilities
Bed comfortable, Breakfast v.good. Hotel peaceful. Staff helpful. car parking good.
Room not as clean as it could be and cleaning liquid stain under toilet seat could be removed. Breakfast time when busy, staff seem hard pressed to keep up with orders and have to wait for coffee to be made. Pool area and loungers need a bit of TLC
The staff were excellent & super polite & helpful. The pool was a big plus and one of the main reasons for booking this hotel. Beds were comfortable.
Only thing that was a negative was the really creaky floorboards in our area.
