Cracked loo seat, water damaged rooms we where shown 4 all where not clean dirty valances on the beds headboard marked top money for very poor room
The location is very pretty indeed. Lovely grounds and good food and wine in a tranquil setting. delightful building.
Only 2 things. 1. Hotel allows dogs which made us feel uneasy about the cleanliness of the floor in your room. Carpet looks like it has had better days in our room. 2. Organisation at breakfast. The restaurant was half empty with many empty tables not set but guest were made to wait sometimes 15 minutes to be seated whilst staff responsible ambled about. Upon complaint to the waitress the problems was resolved by a lovely young lady but either more experienced staff or more control needed here
The views Helpfulness of staff Facilities were good Rooms were comfortable in particular
Muddled charging of extras. Charged for food not ordered. No slip given of charges at each meal of drinks ordered. Bill at end of stay not detailed enough. Need menu's available in bar area to show what is available and speed up ordering
Friendly staff, excellent service, beautiful surroundings. I could not fault this place! A must visit for anyone in visiting the Southwest area.
The overall feel of Bovey castle is one of class, if a little outdated. The pool and spa were excellent although the golf course was played in torrential rain, which spoilt the enjoyment.
We had afternoon tea with parents and the waiters kept trying to deliver the wrong food, and whilst asking about food allergy and requests did not respond to the requests. So overall service could have been better.
Location, rooms, public rooms, walks, greeting at the door,
poor service at bar. restaurant required us to be there at 1830, although it was largely deserted until 2030. No mention of the need to book bikes for the next day when we enquired, only to find everything booked out.
Location excellent. Hotel staff courteous. Comfortable room. Very nice pool.
Service a little slow and there didn't appear to be enough staff. Did not live up to expectations considering the price.
The country side and enjoying a glass of wine by the big fireplace.
The staff hoovering around our feet at 8pm while we were trying to enjoy a quiet evening in front of the fireplace.
Food was not first class in main restaurant or room service lunch. Disappointing on that score. Amazing bar manager.
Lots of comfy chairs and squishy sofas
+ Location - outstandingly great + Surrounding + Staff + Golfcourse + burning fires in the hearth + beakey, the grey parrot + afternoon tea + the luxury coziness .....
room a bit small little room for clothes
Beautiful room and grounds. Staff friendly and helpful. Building is amazing, just walking around was a treat. Lots of places to sit and be comfortable. Lots for the children to do in the grounds.
Being charged an extra £40 on top of an already expensive family room to have children's beds made up, finding out about this charge only the day before when too late to make any changes. Bistro food wasn't amazing.
Location was amazing and the hotel was one of the best I have stayed at in the UK. Staff on the whole were welcoming and helpful.
Staff in Bistro were a bit disorganised.
Location is beautiful, staff very friendly. Spa treatments very good.
Building needs some attention, some carpets worn, some paint flacking off. Had a kettle not an easy place to plug it in to use. Breakfast needs some work.
Wedding anniversary treate
Enjoyed 4 nights at Bovey Castle. Lovely ambience, location and cuisine.
Staff very helpful
What a magnificent experience! Even the dog had a selection of beds and treats! A brilliant escape to make you feel regal and special. You can't help tagging yourself on facebook the instant you arrive and you can't because there's no phone reception (but this is a good thing). Sadly you can get wifi for free. The food in the restaurant was exquisite, the waiters excellent and the specialty steak was to die for. I recommend a gin and tonic on arrival - its served properly, and even though I will take my kids its perfect for a romantic break without them.
It is expensive and not for a budget getaway, more like a reward for winning a contract or lottery win. There are some special offers but not on booking sites. I'm sure I could nit pick something but I won't as I loved it and its me new favourite place
Set up of location and the wonderful facilities
Car park by the lodges should have lights on in the night
we liked the location and the surroundings of the castle.
the food in the castle bistro was boring and bland. Reception staff weren't particularly engaging nor were the staff in general particularly great as i think they are all very young and inexperienced. They don't appreciate the quality of the service they need to provide for a 5 star resort. The general manager was excellent and extremely helpful when problems regarding the coldness of our room were raised. The television kept causing problems and these were not really addressed. We were not shown around when we arrived so had to find facilities ourselves.
Can not express how great our stay was, staff were very pleasant and friendly, made us feel very welcome and couldn't do enough for us, would highly recommend and looking forward to returning at some point in the near future.
Having to leave! :(
The experience, the grounds, the staff and the traditional experience, all fantastic
The room could have been nicer for the price we paid
I have been to some english country hotels but this really is special. The location, the staff, the room and the atmosphere could not be better. It is certainly worth the drive.
Please remove the mirrors in the edwardian restaurant. It gave me too much the feeling of beeing on the ferry-boat between Norway and Denmark.
Room great. Whole operation very impressive.A wonderful experience overall.
