Have been to Durham many times before but never to Bowburn Hall as had not "discovered" it. It was a nice surprise to find this place and would certainly consider using again. Was only there one night so cannot do a full critique but I didn't spot any negatives from a one night only point of view.
Very friendly staff and my husband loved his freshly cooked breakfast.
The bedroom was fine but the downstairs rooms - restaurant etc weren't very clean. They did have lots of people with children eating there - it was very busy but the following morning the tables were greasy and the floor still dirty. It just looked as if the whole place needed a good clean - not just a quick vacuum!
Clean comfortable and free wifi
Close to A1,Large car park
Nothing close by.
Garden Views were good from the rear. Quiet in the hotel good for sleep. Good food quality and staff were friendly.
Glass toilet door in bedroom in full view of bed and hence no privacy. Not offered a choice on the menu during a wedding meal. Beer quality could have been better for price.
Disco below our room til midnight meant we couldn,t sleep at all. We weren,t told that there would be agadoo playing til all hours, if we had known we wouldn,t have booked in. It,s not a country retreat. The grounds are limited and it,s situated in the middle of a housing estate. We told them in advance we were vegetarian. They offered us the cooked breakfast minus the meat....stepping back int ime to the 1980,s! When I asked to speak to the manager about the noise levels I was told they would contact me, they never did. When I emailed later they ignored me. Very poor service and very rude.
Because the Hotel had a wedding party booking , there was an issue with our room with noise. Nikki and Callum were amazing and re roomed us without question :-) Impeccable Service !
What was there not to Like !
Locally sourced produce
Rise in cost of a glass of wine since last visit.
Nice hotel with lovely grounds ideal for wedding
If you do not have transport it is out of the town centre and a taxi is 10£ each way. No lifts so if a person who has climbing problems there is a lot of stairs to negate.
staff were warm, friendly and very helpful, food was delicious never ate any place else ....the general ambiance of the hotel was superb.... Tucked away just close enough to Durham. Bedrooms were lovely too ...enough space for what you needed for a few days away .
nothing at all.
It was an overnight stay for as funeral the staff were helpful, and compared to other people who attended the funeral, excellent value.
The location was very convenient, being situated just off the A1 and within easy reach of Durham The hotel itself was full of character with delightful gardens and a lovely conservatory restaurant. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful and of good quality.
The single room I booked (number 17), although clean and comfortable, was a little on the small size.I would recommend booking a double room, even though a single traveler, for the extra space.
Location, peace & quiet, polite and well mannered staff. The food.
Loved the look of the hotel and the food was great
Room was very hot
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Staff were friendly, service was good in bar and restaurant. The food was good.
Staff Friendly and Very Helpfull
Meals were good
Beds to small
Friendly staff. Good local food.
Approach dominated by car park
I loved the conservatory where you could eat and look out at the garden. I liked that there was plenty of free parking. And last, but not least, I liked the food.
It was a ways out of Durham City proper but that was both good and bad depending upon what one is looking for. It was peaceful but there was no place to walk to around Bowburn Hall.
Beautiful location and gardens, nice room with comfy double bed, restaurant was a delight with lovely food available all day. Very quaint old hall which was a hidden gem!
Overall exterior needs some tlc as my bedroom window was mouldy and rotten. Wifi didn't work well in all locations and kept cutting out in the middle of my work.
Everything was fine
The bar prices were a little high.
Lovely grounds Clean rooms Friendly welcome
Shortage of staff during breakfast as the only girl serving also seemed to be also on the front desk. Still, she was doing her best, although we had to go and find her when the bread had run out.
