Peace & quiet Food & Drink Comfortable Rooms Great views Access to rural areas Open roads (We were on a motorcycle weekend).
It's a bit remote so if you're looking for access to a town for a drink or some food, you may have to allocate a designated driver.
Great beer and food served by friendly hosts in a nice atmosphere.
Arrived and checked in without problems. Shown to room and found to be good quality and very clean. Nice bar serving cask ales and good food menu. Quiet location resuled in a good night sleep
Hotel is very isolated and therefore has no phone signal. This is however common in the area. Popularity of the restraunt ment reserved tables , and as a resident , we had to sit outside
Excellent welcome at the bar. very good food. extremely polite, cheerful and helpful staff - except for the manageress, who was abrupt, grumpy, and gave the impression that guests were a major inconvenience to her. One instance (of several); having told guests that breakfast was from 8.00 till 10.00, she was complaining loudly that some were appearing at five to ten!
There is no lock on the outer door of the building where most of the guests' rooms are. During our second night we were disturbed by a couple who had walked in and who knocked at each room asking if there was anyone they could speak to about booking a room. It was 5 a.m.
The Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent. I am a vegetarian who hates goats cheese and rarely have much chose (goats cheese normally dominates all menus) Here I had a good chose and the vegetarian options were some of the best I've had anywhere. Well done. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider returning especially as there are still good walks close by not done!
Minor problem but the room was on the small side so the tea and coffee facilities in the room were difficult to use (room 7) Would have been nice to have hot chocolate as an option too.
Good food but to high priced for a 2 star hotel should be more selection with compactable prices.
Price of Food was to high for a 2 star hotel
good food and beer plenty of character good value for money
mind your head on the low ceilings
Has a great atmosphere, very relaxed and friendly. Great to be able to take the dog. Perfect for Scafell Pike.
Staff didn't have a clue, organised chaos.Small room even though told we were in superior room. Had to ask for everything we needed in dining room especially breakfast . Waited 20 mins then we had to ask for tea and coffee , nothing replenished on buffet table i.e orange juice and bread(to make own toast). No chance of having leisurely lie in as the staff communicated with each other by shouting !!! Walls like paper in each room and felt like people next door we're getting in bed with us every time they moved. Would definitely not stay here again and was far to expensive room tariff.
Great location and the staff were really friendly. Food was great as well.
For the price the room was quite small
Small bedroom. Groundfloor bathroom without curtain or privacy glass!
The lovely food, friendly staff and welcoming bar and dining area with fires burning in the hearth!
Comfortable bed and very clean Warm and friendly welcome Excellent staff who couldn't do enough for us even though there was a big family party on Lovely location, great for walking Excellent breakfast We had mussels for lunch - brilliant
Wi-Fi very weak
The view was stunning!
The room was a little small.
Staff are very friendly
The room was very small made worse with too much furniture and the bathroom needed a complete re-fit.
The place is set in very beautiful country side very easy to find the staff were very welcoming and friendly really enjoyed are stay and would definitely stay there again
Staff were really helpful and accomodation is seperate to the bar so no disturbance.
Beautiful location, great food and very friendly staff!
The whole stay at the Bower was consistently good, just what we wanted, good food and beer. The welcome news of a local beer festival only enhanced our stay, staff were quick to tell us about it even though the Bower house wasn't part of the festival.
No major issues.
If you love the peaceful quite night this is the place,if you love Wastwater and wants to be close to Scafell Pike,Great Gable,Old man of Coniston then this is the place, staff very friendly and helpful and hospitable,I wish I could stay longer...
The only problem is road so narrow so please do drive carefully and bring little cars and not big bus or coach...and please bring map and compass always because it is very confusing here, unless you're familiar with little villages and towns names, plus don't rely on your mobile as their is no signal, you get signal when you reach the summit only
Manageress well in control.
Male receptionist, not the most friendly of people. The receptionist is the first person you meet, so a lot depends on first impressions.
Setting and friendly staff
Stained bedroom carpet
Very good food and staff V.G.--Pleasant and helpful
Very poor/ uncomfortable beds !
Friendly staff, great base for walking. Good food.
