Good value, comfortable, inn in a great position with friendly, helpful staff. Good pub grub and real ale at a reasonable price. Would be happy to stay there again. Decor a little bit sad in places which only adds to the character of this 17th century coaching inn.

Friendly and very helpful service, beautiful view from our room to the fells, and a lovely breakfast. We booked in advance and got brilliant value for money. It's a proper country inn in one of the most beautiful yet secluded part of the Lakes.

Location was what kept this review from being poor. Bower House has a huge amount of potential but the decor needs refreshing, the hole in the bedroom wall needs to be filled and a welcome pack and hair dryer would have been welcome additions to the room accessories. And the mattress very much needs replacing. When other local hotels have better food and selection (we ate at Bower House first night, the menu was limited which is fine if the food is good, sorry but it was very average, and a 45 min wait for a non cooked starter) range of 'real ales' again was limited compared to other local hotels and cost per night was expensive compared to these other hotels. Overall very disappointed would not recommend this over other hotels in 5 mile radius.

Room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was just enormous and well cooked. Unbelievably noisy plumbing that made the whole building shake.

Friendly, comfortable, good breakfast choices. Vegetarian options not on menu and although I told them beforehand and we were offered salad or stuffed peppers, when the salad came it had not much variety and was not great value for the price.

We have been visiting the Bower House since 1980 and are very firm fans of Eskdale and the Ratty. Good value for money and a friendly reception. The weather-but it was January!

We were impressed with the friendliness of the staff with good camaraderie with the locals in and around Kskdale, we would recommend a stay at Bower House at any time of the year. Tv was too high in the room with wires showing- the heating could be left on a little longer in the evening in the room.

17Th Century Inn great traditional architecture and open log fires. The staff were excellent in particular the gentleman behind the bar unfortunately I didnt get his name, but spoke with a Scottish accent he had the perfect relaxed approach and nothing was too much trouble. The mattress was fast approaching its use by date.
