Very good,
Score from 187 reviews
“Everything conducive to a relaxing and unwinding stay. The welcome and being made to feel at home was outstanding for a country inn of this type. The food was enjoyable and my dog was made to feel at home also! Because of the long standing relaltionship with this hotel over a period of sixty years, it is good to know that these standards of hospitality remain in an age of changing values.”

This is a brilliant pub in a super location. Second time we've been here and again we stayed for 2 nights, with excellent drinks and food in the bar, which has a lovely atmosphere. The staff are extremely helpful and I would have no hesitation in recommending this place. The breakfast is first class also. The rooms in general are a little 'tired' and although we opted for an upgraded bedroom this time, it was still small and could have been a bit cleaner. Having said that we still had a fantastic time and we will return.

Decent value for money.Nice location.Friendly staff. Nothing too worrying. Menu a bit static and cooking quality varied. Wednesday night meal was overcooked. Freshly cooked "Dish of the Day" may help food planning rather than specials board. Breakfasts ok but with Richard Woodhall close, sausage, bacon and black pudding could be better. Over bed lighting would help keen readers like us.Most room lighting wasted. Towel drier in bathroom not working-damp towels as a result.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, breakfast was laid out in the morning and my cooked breakfast made fresh to order. It was quiet as I couldn't hear other guests during my stay. I would go again. The only complaint I had was the room was cold when I arrived in it.

A fabulous hotel with a very friendly atmosphere in one of the best locations I have visited in my many trips to the Lake District. The staff were all fabulous especially the Manager and the Chef and although the rooms were not 'luxury' they had everything we needed at a great price and it was very dog friendly - we will definitely be back

My self and my family stayed and the bower house inn for new years eve and had a fantastic time. The staff were very friendly and the manager Darren was so helpfull and friendly and made us feel so welcome. The place was very relaxing sat in front of the coal fire having a drink and the entertainment and meal at new year was excellent hope to go back next new year again. The only thing that I would like to be noted is that if you go as a family would be nice to be able to be put all together in hotel as my brother and wife were over the car park in the other building and that was not as nice as the hotel.

The food and drink were nice and the staff were very friendly. The location is idyllic. Its a bit scruffy and down at heal. The furniture is very worn and the comfort of a country pub is spoilt by the cheapness of the decor.

Not a lot. The food and service were very good however. The room was very poor ,not suitable for 3 people with a dog as it was very small. It appeared to be a converted council house annexe with poor quality decor and no shower attachment to the bath. This building was in need of refurbishment.

The staff were helpful and were happy to look after all the guests. The attention to detail came very short of what was expected. The bed had seen better days, the shower was not as clean as it could have been(milddew around the tiles) overall the room was very shabby. My wife and I were very disapointed with the accomodation, a premier inn may have been a better choice on this occasion.

The food was very good, even with the problems they were having in the kitchen. The room was great, and the shower was particularly good! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The menus for the food were slightly odd, in that there were two separate menus, but you could order from either one or both, in either the restaurant or bar. Why not just have one menu with everything on? Nothing wrong with the food on the menu though.

Evening bar staff very friendly and helpful and evening food quite good. Very small, dark, basic room...not welcoming. Breakfast - we arrived with 30mins to go...no sign of staff for quite a while...few scraps of fruit left - not enough for both of us. Breakfast staff not very friendly and service very spasmodic.

The location is fantastic with beautiful views. Only a short distance to the waterfalls, bike hiring place and the steam engine. The staff are very pleasant who go out of their way to help you. The breakfast was delicious.Would definatley return to this hotel next year. The beds could do with better mattress to make them more comfortable.

The Lakes District is a beautiful place and has many opportunities for walking in the hills. The Bower House Inn location provides good access without having to drive. The free on-site parking is a plus. In 1999 I was in the uk on business and our British counterparts arranged for us to stay at the Bower House. At that time the Inn was well run, clean, and the staff was able to provide information about trails in the hills and historical points of interest nearby. The Bower House has clearly fallen on hard times since that time. They made an error on the date of our reservation but because they were not close to being full were able to accommodate us. The room we were in did not appear to have been used recently and linen was not as clean as what we had come to expect in the uk. The staff was almost of no help when it came to finding walking trails. They didn't even seem to know or care that one trail started directly across the street from the Inn. This was one of the more expensive nights lodging during or holiday and was the poorest quality.
