Old English Pub atmosphere and accessability from M5

The dining room staff could not take wine orders and I had to queue at the bar to order table wine/drinks. This was EXTREMELY ANNOYING and would put me off coming again. I have never experienced this practise anywhere else in the world.

Fabulous location with small village pub atmosphere, staff very friendly excellent breakfast and good value for money. We have stayed here 3 times and never been dissapointed.

Pub was nice and friendly

Our room was noisy, creaking floorboards above us and reception right next to us. However, i think that if in another room we would not have had any problems.

Nice pub, comfortable accomadation, great staff and a very good breakfast.

Directions could be better. Taxi driver didn't have a clue.

no food after 7 p.m. and no snack/light meal type food. It was a Sunday night though so I shouldn't have ben surprised.

The whole weekend experience

Nestled away in a lovely little village, but just a stones throw from the m5. Ideal for visiting Bath, Bristol or Cheltenham. Charming little pub full of character.

The location and traditional look of all the buildings.

The Manager having to work behind the bar on his own on Saturday night. It was like watching Basil Fawlty at times! More staff needed!

Lovely old building with original features. Comfortable & relaxing. Very good locally produced food. Friendly & obliging staff.

The inn was beautiful. It was just what I was hoping for. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The locals in the pub were also very nice. The food was great and very reasonably priced.

The beds are really firm.

Good old pub with a selection of bitters, comfortable restaurant, good menu, well cooked. Ideal location near motorway, but quiet.

Dinner was enjoyable. Staff friendly.

Smell of sewerage in Bathroom, which progressed in to the bedroom. Not able to open a window, as the room only had french doors which lead to a communual area. Very small bedroom. Chipped Plates at breakfast. Very short staffed, long wait in restaurant to order food, and only one bar person operating on a busy Saturday night. This person was also trying to man reception

Evening meal - superb. Decent wines. Friendly staff. Requested blankets on the bed rather than duvet - and they obliged. I usually have to pester when I get to the hotels because they never do it. Comfortable bed. Atmosphere Quiet surroundings - apart from Church bell on Sunday morning, but even that sounded muted and was very melodic.

Breakfast - cold Window in room - cracked pane and one window wouldn't close. Needs a like of paint outside - it's been a hard winter.

Very good hotel - handy for Bristol visits. Friendly staff and helpful. Food in bar / restaurant was very good.

Can not find anything bad to say

The service and the food in the pub resturant was very good and value for money.

The staff were really friendly and efficient, with the exception of one of the bar staff who was a bit taciturn. The rooms were well decorated and appointed.

We were staying at the Bowl with four other family members and all ate in the Inn on our first night, we assumed we could eat in the dining room again on the second night, but when we arrived for dinner at 7pm all the tables were reserved and we had to perch in the bar and pay restaurant prices since there was no bar menu(the staff did move tables for us to all sit together), but it would have been nice if we had been asked in advance if we were intending to eat in on the second night if they knew they were full. The bar man mentioned served me a Baileys in a tall hi-ball glass and when we asked if he had any more suitable glasses he poured it into a shorter hi-ball !! Perhaps a little professional training? Finally is it necessary to change the barrels at 1.40 in the morning?? But these were minor irritations, generally the stay was excellent.
