6 miles from M6 great views excellent food
The views are stunning. The breakfasts and evening meals take some beating. Everyone on the staff is helpful and welcoming.
Two slight niggles only: the choice of desserts is not very enterprising and on one morning we had a half hour wait for our breakfast when just about everyone else had gone.
Lovely really nice location right opposite lake ulswater really remote yet only 5 miles to M6
Rooms could do with a bit of T L C . But still clean and comfortable
Location, good meal, big enough to book four rooms easily.
Nothing to dislike.
Beautiful views Excellent food Pleasant outdoor areas and snug pub Cheerful, helpful and efficient staff
Grubby white doors upstairs and peeling paintwork.
food ,comfort of bed
bar closing early ,rooms could do with updating .sink in our room was cracked, not hygenic
Great family room which was spacious and comfortable.
Long wait for food but it was worth it!
A traditional English Lakeland pub hotel based on the shores of Ullswater. A mix of friendly clientele but a varied quality of staff most seemingly over stressed by the very busy - full - hotel and restaurant. Very handy for walks in Northern Lakes about a 10 minute drive from Patterdale - great for Helvellyn. Superb views of Ullswater lake from the bedrooms at front of hotel.
Some of the staff were over stresses because if the busy nature of the Hotel. Seemed to be a general air of 'we're in the Lakes we know we'll be 'full' as it's holiday time so so do we need to give excellent service?' Room was ok but furnishings a bit dated. Bathroom was pokey. All clean enough. Everything in the general areas needed a deep 'clean'.
Quiet location beautiful scenery and surroundings, lovely hospitality, thank you Brackenrigg for making our stay so memorable.
Nothing! for us it was all wonderful.
great staff great food great location quite and peaceful and a couple of miles off the M6
rooms are a little tired but at this price I can deal with that.
The staff were excellent and very friendly. The setting was beautiful.
We felt the place was dated. At breakfast we were asked what we wanted and then had to wait half an hour.
Great breakfast selection. Comfy bed. Better than expected.
Was nothing to dislike
We stayed in the Stable cottage room number13 which was dog friendly this was noticed as the carpets and decor was a bit tired but it had everything we needed and it was comfortable, the bedroom was large and had a nice comfy bed. The Brackenrigg inn has the most stunning views and if the weather is nice its lovely to sit out the front and have a drink taking in the scenery. We ate in the restaurant for three nights and the food was beautiful ,the haggis spring rolls are to die for very moreish. We really enjoyed our breakfasts and the full English sets you up for the day the sausages are one of the nicest I've eaten. The Staff really work hard at the hotel and are very pleasent.
The room we stayed in had a room above us and its quite noisy at times and we could hear dogs barking and it felt like it was in our actual room. Also the cleaning cupboard was entered through our room and this was off putting because again it felt like someone was in your room I'm sure it could be kept elsewhere. The staff were very apologetic about having to disturb us and they are polite and work hard cleaning the rooms .
Rooms were dated
Lovely food and lots of it Comfortable room etc (Disabled suite) Beautiful views..
Should be able to book in earlier and book out later. Could not have Liquor coffees at bar.
Location is perfect
Bathrooms are too small
staff ideal for dogs breakfast choice was good
food was hit and miss evenings needs a good clean in bar
breakfast poor.1 bacon,1 egg & a load of other stuff to make the plate look full.
only one plug socket in room
Younger staff were friendly, older staff member (lady) was a bit standoffish
No wifi, despite it being advertised. The room & bathroom were very dated, bordering on shabby, and very overpriced for the standard
friendly staff, good food , pleasant room with lake view
cant think of anything I didn,t like.
Friendly helpful staff Settee in room and view over lake. Comfy bed Plenty of hot water. Great breakfast
Service a bit slow at meal times but understand everything cooked fresh. A communal room/waiting area which is quiet with a couple of sofas would be useful as only bar area to "meet you downstairs" in.
There was no curtain in the room, only a venetian blind which allowed the on-off security lighting to illuminate the ceiling all night until around 4.00a.m. when the sun came up and flooded the room with light. When I complained the staff member assumed I had a problem and offered a discount off the price but seemed to think I was a bit unusual in finding this a problem and didn't take up my suggestion of reinstalling curtains (which most other rooms have in addition to the blinds).
Fantastic food and atmosphere
Room small bathroom very small shower door couldn't be opened fully
