Position and outlook. Generally convenient for access to the City. Easy parking at the hotel
No lift and thus a problem for the infirm
Continual climbing of stairs, difficult for an elderly guest
Complimentary Water, tea etc. in room
The bed was not comfortable. The mattress was saggy.
Good location, some parking, meals great and option of second eatery, staff excellent, very helpful. Quiet but close to public transport.
Liked staying here but a couple of things to take into account, keep in mind that it is an older character filled hotel, the plumbing can be interesting but it works and you get hot water, there is no lift so you will be fitter by the end of your stay. Take advantage of the porter :)
The staff were friendly and most helpful; one of the bar staff took our luggage up two floors. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were good and the on-site parking a real plus. Location was good for us as we were visiting a granddaughter who lives nearby
There is no lift, and a good many stairs to the top floor. At that level, the shower pressure is a cross between a disgrace and a joke - or perhaps it is both. A warning to the wise: whatever you do, don't eat at Buckstones, the attached pub.
Small rooms Not clean bathrooms Disappointed considering the high price I paid.
My first room was very good, but I was moved for my second night to a room on the first floor by a staff entrance, which me for some very embarrassing moments before I realized and closed the curtain
It was far from amenities
Friendly staff, ample parking, good restaurant. Family room was spacious, both were clean and well stocked.
Twin room was a little small.
Helpful friendly staff
Location. Frequency of buses into city
Uncomfortable beds. Poor choice on set menu which was the same every night
Easy to find, plenty of parking and good public transport links on the doorstep. Comfortable room even if a little on the small side.
Coffee at breakfast was too strong.
The room had recently been refurbished to a high standard. Very good bus service into Edinburgh city. Buffet breakfast was good, plenty of choice, nice dining area with pleasant views.
Our room was in a separate building, not in the main hotel itself.even though the room was lovely, we felt disconnected from the hotel. The view from the windows was overlooking someone's garden.
bathroom very old and not practicable
The staff at reception were extremely helpful when I had to deal with a misunderstanding regarding my booking via booking.com.
the standard buffet breakfast did not cater for those on a wheat-free diet.
Staff very helpful and friendly. They posted on a book which I left behind
Some breakfast items disappointing-we expected and looked forward to MacSweens haggis etc but they clearly were not
Excellent location. View was fantastic
Bed was not the most comfortable. A mattress topper would have been nice. Water pressure in shower was poor.
Lovely setting and views. Large comfortable bedroom and bathroom, traditional dark wood furnishings I liked , two restaurants on site with great fare. Decent breakfast. Highland Spring bottled water and biscuits with tea and coffee in room . Lots of tourist info and hotel magazine available too. Good deal !!
Wedding on the weekend we were there and the reception music too loud in our room until 11pm, but after that fine.
Easy to check in. The room was spacious and comfortable and the service discreet.
Great rooms, lots of room and comfortable bed. Good breakfast and restaurant. Even though a bit of a distance out do the city centre there is a bus right outside the hotel which is convenient.
Good breakfast - cooked the porridge fresh on request. Hot chocolate & decaff coffee sachets in the bedroom. Lovely views. Polite, helpful staff. Pleasant décor & very clean.
Room was small, but then the building was old. The room didn't have a view but we did book late. The rooms on the front would have lovely views.
Location Breakfast Staff
Mix up on bookings meant that I paid for a single room but was charged for a double room. There was little flexibility about this. I felt that if I'd paid for a double room, I should have been allocated one, whatever the rights and wrongs.
Attractive modern restaurant with fine views and good breakfast selection.
Small old fashioned bedroom, well equipped but tired decor.
Not a lot I did like the surrounding area though
around 80 steps up to my room; very noisy road; bed not very comfortable, breakfast could have been a lot warmer, staff not very friendly, if someone hadnt shown me where it was I think I would have missed the opening on the road which is slightly hidden,
