Location was nice. Unfriendly staff, small rooms, and there was a problem with the water, no cold water available, which meant that I could not have a shower.

rooms were ok (except bathrooms) and breakfast was good, staff were fine, facilities seemed ok bathrooms in both our rooms were awful, my sons bathroom (room 238) had mould on the shower ceiling, the paint was peeling off, the light was as bright as a candle, and it was dirty around the shower, toilet and sink, it needs a complete overhaul....our bathroom (room232) was the same except for the peeling paint (looked like someone forgot to paint the final coat?) and the light, and when we showered in the morning the shower was too hot to use, with the tap on fully cold the shower was still burning hot, had to run the water for 5 mins on fully cold before it was bearable, also it would be nice if we were informed on booking that a wedding party was also in the hotel? drunk guests everywhere when we arrived, lots of bad language and loud music till midnight...would have been nice to be informed? also i was asked on booking if there were any special requests, i asked for 2 rooms together, arrived to find that the 2 allocated rooms were miles from each other on 2 different floors, staff managed to get 232 and 238 but that was the best that could be done...it would have been nice to have had a call or email informing me of this before arrival? whole place just a bit tired, ok for a cheap night but wouldnt stay for longer, sorry.

The ship style feel to the hotel was really quirky and cool, although was a shame that the older part of the house didn't shine through. The entrance driveway, grounds etc are amazing, but the sport/business (?) block looked rather unfitting to the surroundings. The staff were friendly, relaxed and very helpful. The room was lovely and fantastically priced, small yet cosy, all we needed. We went for dinner elsewhere and popped back and stayed up late - but hotel access remained easy and functional throyghout the night. Really enjoyed it and have recommended it to all my friends and family, can't wait to stay again or try some of your other venues, thank you kr

Excellent value-only £29 for room. Lovely room with a view of grounds. Complimentary toiletries and tea ,coffee. Excellent staff, nice bar. Dont let other reviews about the "nautical" theme put you off! soundproofing in rooms not good so I could hear next doors conversation as if they were in the room with me!!

The bed we had was probably the most comfortable hotel bed I have slept in for a while and as someone with a chronic back problem I appreciate that more than anything. The storage was very limited but for 1 night it didn't really matter to us

We stayed for two nights and were more than satisfied , The staff were very efficient and helpfull the first night we were in room 123 and at 7am were woken by the dust cart and then several delivery vehicles . I asked at reception to be moved and we were given room114 this was much quieter . The staff were more than happy to help. Overall a very pleasant stay. Our first room was situated directly above the delivery access ramp and was therefore very noisey first thing in the morning we were given a different room next day ..

Location was close to our event and the setting (trees) are stunning. The breakfast was also good. We thought we were staying in the hotel but ended up in an outbuilding which looked like an old scout hut and appeared to have been poorly maintained. The room was not clean enough, it had single glazed windows and a puddle of water built up on the window sill by the morning, we had to share a towel (1 towel between 3 is unheard of so not sure how this is deemed acceptable), the bed was too narrow for a double and the shower was clearly 20 years old. We also didn't have biscuits in the room to go witht he tea which is a regulation in most hotels. Also the cabs ordered by the hotel appear to have been the most expensive cabs in the uk - £20 for a 12 minute journey and £30 for the same journey at 11pm (time and half...) - approx double the cost of a black cab in central London. All in all we were disappointed and may not use De Vere in the future.

The environment, the building, helpful and friendly staff. At a good price .I left a comment with reception concerning the building maintenance. This is a very nice old house. It deserves to be maintained well. I noticed that some of the external woodwork has been neglected and is rotting. Please give it the attention it needs.

Cleaning products left out in the room; windows left wide open all afternoon/evening so when I returned to the room later that night, it was freezing cold; the standard of the rooms did not reflect the price.
