itinery tells us open till 12 pm came back at 10 25 pm hotel closed in darkness ??? shocking
breakfast was good
Staff !!!. If you work in this industry you need the mentality for hospitality!! Sadly the staff didn'T. However the lady who welcomed us on arrival also served at the bar/dinner/breakfast etc etc and tried her best.. Service was poor, for dinner, had starter then waited nearly 40 min for the mains!! Was told food was being "plated up" which took a whole 10 min???. Were told we could not have table at 7pm as very busy, yet restaurant was half empty the whole night. Then we were told that 1x chef and 1 x staff member never turned for work!! At easter weekend??? Fact is they could not cope.Breakfast was not the best, slightly undercooked and bacon "rolled up" on top of the "small hill of food"!! Very strange presentation. Room was not very welcoming, shabby to say the least, bath panel starting to rot, creaky floor boards, ancient decor, and we were kept up all night by the sound of the central heating boiler.cheap creaking bed, whole place needs major re vamp, even the curtains in the dining room were falling off the hooks, terrible looking!!. Is this what they call scottish hospitality ?? just don't go,its not worth it, You will get far better deals in better hotels for less £££££S.
The location. Last time we visited it was quite nice but the place has changed drastically. Getting out of the place. Overhearing other guests when when having breakfast discussing their poor opinions of the place, dirty bath/wash hand basin etc.these comments confirmed it wasn't just our imagination. The food, We like our food but the portions were a little too much.this is not a complaint just an opinion.
Bed was the worst bed I've ever slept in. Flat pillows and solid bed. Our rooms wasn't cleaned at all, albeit the bed was made once. No fresh towels or replacement coffee and milk for the four days we were there.
Bad smell in one of our rooms breakfast was poor we had diner it was good but not warm
Nothing comes to mind
We licked nearly everything comfort, friendly staff, food was A1 we had a meal in every night varied menu lounge was comfortable all in all in all a very good break
We didnt get into our til 3pm when the website advertised 2pm. They should change it online if check-in is 3pm. My husband thought there was an unpleasant smell in our bathroom! The hotel was a bit short staffed though it was end of season, one girl did breakfasts then cleaned all the rooms, she apologised she didnt have time to make up our room on the 2nd day. Tables were left dirty with bits of food spilled on them and dirty dishes! The menu was excellent however only some of our meals were good. The burgers and fish dishes were excellent however the venison casserole was tough with a watery gravy and my lasagne was a very small, dried up potion covered in melted chedder cheese! Not what lasagne should be like. Overall I would stay there again, with more staff on duty some of these criticisms could be improved upon.
The room was nice, looked like it had been recently refurbished with modern furniture and bedding. The lounge bar had a comfortable feel to it and we could eat in a designated area of the dining room so our 2 dogs could stay with us, which we appreciated. We had breakfast there as well, which was very good.
Our room definitely could do with a makeover. Old hotel so creaky doors and floorboards. Thin walls, we heard our neighbours so they probably could hear us. Shower was nice and hot but not a good flow. We didn't get breakfast as we were leaving too early in the morning and there was no-one in the kitchen at that time. When booking in we were offered the chance to order a packed lunch for the next day but when we did go to order that option it was too late to take our order.
Evening meal was excellent. Hotel was full, due to the Ryder Cup, so Bar/Restaurant had a nice atmosphere.
Rooms, corridors and dining and breakfast rooms were a bit overheated. Wifi available but only in public areas, not strong enough to reach room.
Location - right next to river, walks on the doorstep and lovely to hear the river in the night... Very nice meal, fast service, friendly and helpful staff. Surprisingly little traffic noise even though hotel is on the main road. Good value with excellent breakfast included in the price.
Poor cleaning and no visit from staff to tidy room at all. Room very warm>window opened so traffic noise very loud and noise and smell from kitchen extractor fan. No hot water for morning shower. Door opens onto unlit corridor. Only 3 channels on tv. All guests being called "guys" Room badly needed painted, cleaned and bathroom needs a decent face lift too. Room door barely fitted, very stiff.
Allowed to have the dog with us. Friendly staff Good tea in room
service was quite poor at times, in the bar and the restaurant, our arrival wasn't very welcoming, our room was a bit lacking i.e., dog hairs on the cushions (yuk I have allergies!), heavy black mould around window frames ( lots of it!!), and bathroom had cheap lino on the floor and had that much sealant around bath just added on top of the previous one or two! Drink were very overpriced at the bar.
breakfast was superb, the area was lovely, we did sleep very well as it is a very quiet area.
It's a bit remote. Like most of the country hotels the room needed a good clean.
This roadside hotel is quiet and comfortable.
Dirty toilet bowl and dusty flowers in room
Friendly staff, good food lovely location
There were no negative aspects at all.
The hotel was spotlessly clean in all areas. Congratulations to the housekeeping staff! All the staff we met were helpful. The food was delicious, had venison casserole which was very tender and tasty. The breakfasts were equally good. Liked the scrambled egg with smoked salmon for breakfast. Room was comfortable and quiet. Would recommend this hotel to anyone with no hesitation.
TV only had 2 channels, but it's in a bit of a TV reception blackspot apparently, so not really the hotel's fault.
Nice quiet location, rooms well equipped, friendly and helpful staff.
Good breakfast and dinner Comfortable beds and spacious room
Some of the decor in the rooms looked a bit tired.
Location near to the Cairngorm mountains makes it ideal for motorbikes with some superb roads right on the doorstep. Good atmosphere in the bar on the evening and good food.
Nothing x 200
This was the first night' s stop of a 3 day motorcycle tour of The Cairngorms for wife and I. The welcome was superb by the owner, who resolved my concerns of parking a nearly new pride on joy on the hard gravel car park opposite. His pleasant smile and approach set the standard for the rest of the staff, who were very helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and service was good, along with the food -dinner and breakfast. The room was a twin as requested and very comfortable.
Re breakfast. I was served my breakfast with a burst poached egg and the plate swimming in water. Worst ever.
Front desk reception was rather impersonal and ungracious..(Stayed in bed and breakfasts and guesthouses throughout Ireland, Scotland that were all amazing hospitality wise...)...Attitude summed up with her saying...(more or less) we work until all the locals go home...so unless you are going to purchase from the bar....
Comfortable, plentiful area to relax with the family, after a busy day. Lovely natural surroundings...good for hiking and out-of doors activities. Food and friendly service in the morning for breakfast.
Small room, no wifi in room, shower in bathtub, average restaurant, overpriced.
Very nice people, clean room, good bed, beautiful location.
Terrible smell of drains out in garden which was a pity as that was a nice place to sit with a beer
Good location for walking
We got the last room available and although very clean and tidy and well appointed it was above the kitchen and the extractor fan was very noisy with a vibration resonating through the floor, but as promised by the staff it was switched off at 10:00 oclock and did not come back on untill 08:00 in the morning.
Exellent staff, friendly, polite and talkative. The restaurant was exellent and my stake done to a turn, which is very un usual as I like it v v v v well done!
lack of biscuits on room tray
warmth of welcome and excellent food both at dinner and breakfast
not so sure about dinner menu, my starter of garlic mushrooms, mushrooms out of a tin, cost 6.95. steak and ale pie was rubbish. and. very expensive. BUT breakfast was great, as was afternoon soup and sandwich
very dog friendly. staff lovely.
