Plenty of different areas to drink/sit. The breakfast was very good. Bedroom right next to lift shaft and the noise was un-abating and there was about 1/2cm of dust inside the wardrobe. There was a huge damp patch on the bedroom ceiling also. Hotel charges £2 every time you have your card swiped and that applies to Debit cards also. You have to pay £12 to park your car.

Room lighting was very very poor. The bed was very uncomfortable, no extra pillows in room. Carpet in room was stained. The lifts were not working properly. Overall we were very unhappy with our stay.

It is located in the city center and just a 3 minute walk from the train station. Reception staff lack customer service ethics. We booked online for 2 rooms for 2 nights but the receptionist committed a mistake of billing the other room just for a night. We payed using my bank card and signed the receipt without paying the details. The next day, a staff came to my friend's room demanding her to leave because someone will be occupying the room. We went to the reception area in my pajamas because the staff said we should settle it right away. They showed us we payed only one night for the other room but it was not our fault as we thought she followed what was in our reservation booking. So we payed the next night and everything was settled. The problem was not one of the reception staff showed enough decency to apologize for the inconveniece we had due to their negligence. One staff was even rude to tell us it was our mistake because we signed the receipt without reading, but if only they just copied what was in the reservation booking and there could be no problem. Receptionist need to know that courtesy is necesssary when dealing with customers!

It was interesting to visit due to the relative fame and history of the place. The beds were comfortable. Our room wasn't much larger than a broom cupboard and was really in need of refurb. In fact, the whole hotel is run-down. Bearing in mind how rough the hotel was, it was seriously overprices - we paid £160 for two nights - half of that price would have been more appropriate. The main issue was that we were unable to open a window and the fan wasn't up to much - it was really hot and stuffy during the night. Oh, and the TV wasn't tuned in to any channels properly and I could figure out how to tune it myself.

good location, cheap rate and cheap beer. Nice atmosphere as it was Beatles weekend. Breakfast was terrible! Greasy and unedible Also,. I had phoned the hotel before we went to say that we were bringing a van and did we need to book a parking space, I was assured not but when we arrived the car park attendant would not let us park our van as there were already 2 vans in the car park. There was still plenty of room but apparently "rules is rules".

Nothing we left because it was so awful. For all of you who ignore the extreme evaluations as outliers and focus on the overall review... This is the one hotel to follow the wisdom of guests past.... My fiancée and I had been on a twelve day trip around Europe staying in the cheapest hotels along the way. This was our last night and wanted to splurge a bit so we went to the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool. When we first got into the elevator another guest asked us what brought us to this.crap hole... That should have tipped us off right away. There were other guests sitting in the hallway because their room keys wouldn't allow them access to their rooms. I had seen this happen in other hotels but definitely not on this magnitude (8 or so people) We had a double booked for 99 pounds. The first room we were given had two small single beds, a frosted window that wouldnt open and a rusted over bathroom. This was by far worse than some of the two star hotels we spent only 22 pounds on. We were then relocated to another room that had a double bed. The paint was peeling off the walls and the bathroom, again, was all rusty. The third room we were given had decent paint but was a very small room, the windows didn't open, the lampshade was all dirty and knocked half-way off the lamp. We decided to leave the hotel. This hotel does not have a fitness center/pool and wifi ( It looks like the Adelphi offers these features but they charge you extra for them...) The elevators were even faulty and often would not bring you to the ground floor. Overall... I would recommend booking elsewhere and avoiding the Adelphi at any price beyond 70 pounds.

An historic building with a once sterling reputation; now cheap but not chearful. Clients basically rough. Assailed in lift by a drunken Scot, this usually happens to me in Glasgow!

Hotel is in a state of chronic disrepair and needs major investment to meet the standards of modern hotels. Hotel has huge potential (architecture, location etc.) but rooms and corridors are cramped, dirty and were out of date 20 years ago. The age of the hotel is no excuse for dirty carpets and sheets, peeling paintwork, lack of hot water and many more problems. This hotel represents appalling value for money given other hotels in the same price bracket in Liverpool city centre. It would be impossible to recommend this hotel given the state it's in.

Beautiful entrance lobby and lounge- all public areas were immaculate and well-looked after, with period detail a delight to take in. The history of the building shines out the minute you walk in. Staff pleasant enough, though I have encountered friendlier, but the lady at reception was professional and polite. The rooms are in sore need of some tlc- basic things such as a decorating job that looks professional (white paint smeared across beautiful old wooden doors where a cowboy decorator has been slapdash) would make a huge difference. Also, I'd recommend paint touch-ups where plug sockets have been replaced or where it has become chipped on wardrobe doors etc and decent flooring that doesn't look like it came from a hospital in the bathrooms. The bathroom was clean but smelt strongly of ammonia when we arrived, meaning we had to leave the bathroom window open in November until the smell had faded enough to be tolerable. The lounge should have a bar area, as it's just a big empty space that's not making them money. The American Bar (when you find it) is grim indeed - they don't accept card payments and the decor is shabby.

It was in a good location to get around the city The room was on the first floor next to a wedding celebration on both the Friday and Saturday night - I always wonder why large hotels that cater for parties / weddings do not put the guests of those parties in the rooms closest to the noise!. It feels like we got the cheap room because we paid the cheap price....you get what you pay for I guess!

The location and the breakfast When I checked in my room was dirty. When I reported this I was told that this was usual for Sunday arrivals.Given that check out is 11:00 am and I checked in at 14:15 this would suggest too few cleaners are employed. Feel of "faded glory"about this hotel

At the discounted room rate this was excellent value for money. The hotel has a real sense of 'grandeur' but it is past its best and needs modernising - feels like it is still in the 70's and the decor and equipment show their age. If I wasn't looking for cheap accommodation I would stay elsewhere.

The location I asked for strictly non smoking rooms and was allocated two smoking rooms on the sixth floor. I could not use the room due to the strong smell of smoke. When checking in I asked for non smoking rooms and was told there were none available close togehter. However when I went back to ask for a room change we were allocated two rooms on the first floor non smoking. I just wonder why they were not given to us on checkin. There was a vert strong smell of damp from the bathroom in room 159.

Location Quiet at night in the room which was nice Clean and tidy The heating was on constantly in the room, I was unable to turn down or off making it uncomfortable for sleeping during my stay. The shower was only hot and had very little force so it was more like a strip wash because the water was too hot.

This was my second stay and this room was much better than last time. My room this time was on the 1st floor and at the back to the hotel. It was much quieter and the furnishings were lovely.

We were very disappointed by our 2 nights stay at the Britannia Adelphi because: - we could not sleep on the night of the 14th Jan.due to two wedding parties taking place. Our room being on the first floor just above the parties, it was like being on the dancefloor itself. It went on until 1am. We had not been warned by the hotel management when we booked. Had we known we would have chosen another hotel. Alternatively, the Management should have given us a room on the upper floors, far from the parties. - We called the reception during the night but obviously it was too late to change room. When we complained to the Manager the following day, his reaction was not appropriate. He claimed that there was some link on the hotel web site which informs that the hotel hosts parties. He did not offer any compensation. It was just tough luck ! We did not feel welcomed and appreciated as customer. We rather felt like we had to pay, shut up and leave. I would definitely not recommend anyone to stay at this hotel.

I liked the beautiful fixtures and fittings reminiscent of a by-gone era. I thought that the location was excellent for touring the city of Liverpool. The English staff were friendly and helpful and the bed was comfortable. I thought that the breakfast was poor and as my husband is blind and another member of our group disabled the buffet for breakfast and the carvery was unsuitable as by the time I had finished serving everyone my meal was cold. The Eastern European staff need training on customer service I.e banging cutlery around and entering our room at 8.30 am they also need to learn how to smile! As mentioned by other guests the room was extremely hot and the heating cannot be turned down (as tried by a member of staff) maybe air conditioning is a good idea.

I love the gorgeous twin rooms on the 1st floor (non smoking)- beautiful old traditional hotel with character, feels like a proper hotel- love the high ceiling bedrooms (lower floors) love the stunning marble tiles in the swimming pool- love the lay out and style of the hotel - huge function rooms, chandeliers, and the room I was in had nice large bath tub- was traditionally, well decorated, also the staff are very good indeed, welcoming and friendly. I think the staff also love their hotel. I certainly do and shall return many times as I have done so already! Exceptional value for money - got superb low rate pre-paid deals- unbelievalbe!!!- And right next to Liverpool Lime street rail station!! On top of the shops! Unbeatable!!! There's nothing I dont like about the Adelphi!! I love the Adelphi!!! Brill staff! Honest housekeeper ran after me with shawl I left behind when leaving!!!

Location I am a mature lady who was staying in a twin room with my sister. My bed was extremely uncomfortable as the mattress was old and resembled a sheet of corrugated metal. After one sleepless night, I asked for something to be done about it. The young woman on reception was very polite and helpful when I complained. Later in the day, I found that a duvet had been used to cover the lumpy bed and although I would have expected it to be replaced, it was a huge improvement and ensured two further nights sleep. Nobody enquired whether I had found it comfortably improved or not, which is the least one would expect.
