- No WiFi (Really bad for businessman) - Really old TV with only 10 channel - No mobile signal (Really bad for businessman) - Two floor under the street level!!
Great facilities, particularly liked the leisure facilities. Room was very comfortable and food was very reasonable
Size of room excellent. Staff very helpful/polite. Late check out option.
Cannot comment on restaurant/gym/pool area. Did not have enough time to use these.
i booked a smokers room and did not get one. the hotel was noisy
Pros wonderful grounds and buildings. Helpful staff. Good breakfast. Impressive public areas.
Decor in room tired and marked. Shower ineffective. Bed too hard. Smoking rooms nearby contaminated our room with stale smoke odour
The steam room wasn't working.
I was welcomed and made to feel nothing was a problem. Loved the gym for an early morning work out, lots of guests using the pool.
See my previous review where only issue was late starting of breakfast. This week, breakfast was being served at 07.00 hrs so that's much better. Thanks.
WiFi still a bit sporadic and slow.Reception is not same in all rooms so if you need it then maybe you could check in advance.
Phone signal was very poor and Internet too
Location. Staff were very helpful but very stressed.
The overall appearance of the decor is very tired. The staff were very stressed due to 4 coach loads of tourists and others all wanting to use the bar and dining area at the same time. Staff were unsure of how to book meals, leading to conflicting information being given.
Cheap last minute deal but still left disappointed
Room poorlly lit making it very difficult to work on computer No lock on door Television badly situated Complained next morning, no offer of refund or voucher off another stay
Good location near to home
Reception an Bar area looked tired, needs good clean . The night staff made me feel as I was putting him out I asked for more coffee. We we,nt even asked if we enjoyed our stay
Nice sized room, good shower.
Walpaper was tired, and pealing off the walls, 2 half roles of toilet roll.
Love the location and food. Room was nice a spacious. Had everything that I needed for the stay. Great price.
Bed could have been a little softer.
The staff were brilliant, plenty of facilities, a good choice of food although food could be warmer in the carvery area... rooms ok and comfortable. had a clean comfortable bed and clean shower which was all I needed...
The rooms needs an up-date, looking very tired...the TV was restricted with channels - seems they need to move more into the modern world, looking tired in area of the hotel, WIFI awful yet they advertise good WIFI facility...gap under the door was very large... had to put a towel to stop the draft coming in from the corridor. window sills very dirty and mold around the windows... small things but these are important if they need more business users...
The room was spacious , warm and spotless. The king size bed was very comfortable. There is ample free parking and the village with a selection of pubs is only yards away ( we did not try the hotel food ) - superb value for money - we will use it again.
Some fittings a bit tired in public areas.
Good hotel and nice room
the hotel was different than the picture shown on website.
The bedroom was clean
wifi poor choice of tv channels poor
The exterior of the hotel is very impressive but sadly as you walk in you will realise the hotel has seen better days. The decor is out dated and shabby and don't expect any mod cons such as wifi. The staff were friendly/helpful enough and the room was fairly clean. We got a very cheap price in the room so can't complain too much about the value but we won't be staying there next time.
lack of wi fi in room had to go to bar area or lounge to get e mails
creeky floorboards very old
Located close to main town
Tired and dated , needs updating in all areas
With a bit of investment, this place could easily become a top class hotal and conference venue. The Hall and the grounds are beautiful, the pool/gym is excellent and the staff are friendly and courteous. The nearby village (2 minutes walk through the church grounds) is picture-postcard with some lovely pubs and restaurants. My (double) room was very large and the plumbing worked, even if it was in need of a bit of "tuning". Yes, the TV was old with no Freeview but so what? The large bed was comfortable and clean. The rate I had was clearly a "first week in January special" but as long as the rates don't go up too much, I'd come back again, but perhaps not in the snowy season, when I suppose you'll be sure to get stranded. So, maybe they prefer to pitch to the coachtour market, or are forced to do that as further investment is not possible. That's OK for me, as I'm pretty sure that if it did pitch upmarket, I could no longer afford to go there.
As many others have commented, the place does feel "tired" - that is to say, it doesn't appear to have been decorated since the eighties. The carpets are threadbare and the decor old-fashioned. The most annoying thing for me was the late start for the breakfast. Although the cold buffet was usually out by 7am, the hot food officially starts at 8am (even if sometimes it was out by 7.40). This is simply too late for business guests, especially as the place is so far out in the sticks that it takes at least 30mins to get anywhere. The NET connection (I used the free WiFi) is very slow and I although useable for urgent things I wouldn't like to have to do any real work online.
Staff were really friendly and helpful, especially when dealing with our issue about the original room. We were very happy with the new room. The atmosphere and facilities generally were very good.
Our original room was very disappointing - very small, in need of renovation and poor value for money.
A great value stay at this lovely hotel. Room was fairly small but warm, clean and comfortable, with everything we needed. Lovely welcoming bar, grand halls and beautiful grounds. Great location very close to the village. We were the youngest couple there by far! This is not a modern hotel - but we liked that. The hotel has an air of fading grandeur, a little worn around the edges in a pleasant antique way, but well-kept and very comfortable. We did not try the food as we prefer to eat out. I specifically requested a room with a double bed as I did not want to be given two singles side by side. My request was granted and the bed was very comfortable. Friendly, helpful staff and a pleasant hitch-free stay. I would definitely visit again.
The steam room at the spa was out of order. The one Jacuzzi was always occupied, however we went over the busy Christmas period so this is to be expected!
