Britannia Hotel  

Be warned not to stay at this hotel, dirty, dated, shabby hotel, I booked an executive double room and oh dear, I would hate to see the standard room, windows were at the top of the wall so you couldnt see out of them unless you are over 8ft tall, the bed which was screwed onto the wall was disgusting, with stains and hairs inside, I couldnt bring myself to look at the mattress, resulting with me sleeping fully dressed however didnt sleep due to the constant itching, only 1 towel in the bathroom and that had seen better days the bathroom was more like public toilets, not good, wall paper hanging off the walls dirty skirting boards, the furniture was falling to bits the carpet was heavily stained and not hoovered properly,thankfully I only stayed one night this hotel either needs a complete refurb or knocked down, I had read reviews on this hotel and thought people were maybe being a bit fussy, however I will take more note of reviews in future

When I arrived at the hotel and checked in I was given aroom on the second floor the room was so old and worn looking and I would have excepted this, but it really was dirty,the wall, windows and bathroom.I Went back to reception and complained. I was then given aroom on the 5th floor, the room was better but really needs to be decorated, there was ahole in the bed cover the pictures on the wall were all stained they should be removed,the windows were dirty,the shower items in the bathroom were all stained I would not touch them. The reception staff very unfriendly.

The hotel is such abeautiful building and the stair case is out of this world, It just needs to be restored to its real beauty, and given a really good clean. Take away the tac around the hotel and let the hotel breath in its real beauty.

Being put on floor 6 - at the top of the hotel and a higher climb than the 'few steps' above the 5th floor which the guy on reception speaking poor English described (lift did not go to the 6th floor). The room was smelly (smoking despite requesting non-smoking), tatty and in desparate need of a refurbishment and it certainly did not look/feel clean. The free internet was very slow. After a shower I left and wont be returning -i'd stayed in the ramada across the road a few days before for only £10 more - but the ramada is far superior.

Leaving

They did not meet my booking - offering a cold room that stank of smoke despite my request for a non smoking room. I felt penalised for a late check in, which just made things worse. They tried to place me in a sister hotel but couldn'T. Eventually they found another room from a no- show (or even later check in), by which time it had all taken too long and it was too late for redemption. They didn't even say sorry until after I had pointed out that they hadn'T. All this and I called earlier to say I had a late check in time. Day staff clearly just didn't care about my arrival and stay. With room not good anyway - terrible bed, decor tired, shower dreadful alternation between hot and cold, this was one I the worst hotels I have stayed in.

The hotel design was lovely, clean rooms and bathroom. Lovely friendly bar and the porter was very kind and approachable. The breakfast was of good quality and an excellent range. Most of the staff was kind and approachable and offered great customer service. The bar area was relaxing.

My room was not ready at 2pm as stated I have to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes before I could get the key card. And one of the staff was a little sarcastic when I asked when the room was ready as I had travelled a long way and have a disability and needed rest. This was not received very well. One of the lifts appeared tempremental - would not arrive very quickly and sometimes decided to take you to the top floor without pressing any buttons! - Only a minor point but was frustrating at the time

Close proximity to city centre, good clean hotel, free newspapers!

The location

1980s television with 1970s reception and only a few channels. Dark rooms with little lighting. Single-paned window, facing a very noisy and busy street. Night club in hotel with loud music until early hours. Small beds.

Locality was great and staff friendly

Bacon not cooked,room was in need of new furniture ,drawers broken telly very old ,windows definately need cleaning

Staff were rude, I have never been spoken to like this before in my life. Room was not clean.

The hotel is in need of modernisation. The decor is very outdated, the bathroom was very basic, and the bedrooms very old fashioned. The bed was very uncomfortable and the windows would not close properly leaving a draft a noise from the street below coming into the room. I needed to do some paperwork during my stay but due to the poor lighting and tiny desk in the room this was not possible.

Just room

Breakfast was all dried up cold had to ask for coffee then I had to ask for milk and then I had to ask for cup to drink it very bad service

Was made to wait to check that the room was ready at 1500 when check in time was 1400. the room was a double not a twin which is what I booked. There was a make shift single which wasnt big enough for an adult to sleep on. The staff were slow and rude, unorganised and generally didnt seem to know what was going on. Will not be staying there again im just grateful i didnt pay the full amount of £139 which is what they charge
