Not enough time or staff to clean properly, bath was clean but cobwebs full lenth of tall windows! I would not have bathed my own dog in that bathroom in room 124, and it is shameful even at those prices that you get away with charging for such a neglected state of a room, tiles ungrouted, gruby, disappointed. Staff on reception were taking money for evening meal in restaurant, and people were dressing for this, despite us telling them we had been told by young helpful lady on bar, that the restaurant was closed that night? The plates are much too big and filling them dosen't make it tastier! Glasses outside on grass, was a bit of a H & S for people with pets or children would imagine. More informed staff and motivated by a good management service would benefit all. It was obvious that one or two of reception, other staff think they are above the rest of staff, maybe they are, but they should not make it obvious to paying guests. We had booked this as a one night to go for an interview next day, but it was supposed to be relaxing and it wasn't and being told 'We don't mind how you pay as long as you do pay,' is not to our mind customer friendly. Thank you for the good bits. The curtain rail looks like it's hanging by a thread too, old buildings need love care and money investing.
We liked the actual look of the place, the room for the last min price was fine. Most of staff had smiles. Even the cleaner was friendly. The young man who had to pick up the pieces of the management mistakes was fantastic and he will go far, having run business ourselves we would have valued his experience at such a young age! He spent all of his spare time running around apologising for mistakes of others without a hesitation, it was a lot for a young person but he did it brilliantly. The bar food was plentiful and the starter delicious.
